First and foremost ,I'm so glad to hear Gary Haynes is improving daily. Thank you Fred Mccourt for keeping everyone informed, WE appreciate all your hard work. Well today was the end of my 4th full week back to work since lockout. I was wondering how everyone else Is doing? I personally am doing O.K., Im still involved, I'm still ptotecting and preserving our work. Although many changes have occurred, WE STILL NEED TO BE EDUCATED, PROFESSIONAL and above all work SAFELY together and as ONE! We must continue to move foward. We must continue to be involved. If you are not sure about any language or work rules in our new contract? DONT ASSUME ANYTHING, PLEASE ask your shop steward first. I noticed quite a few new construction jobs going up, please stop in , introduce yourself & check the jobsite for LOCAL 1 Highly trained mechanics. If their is any questions regarding any jobsite, call the hall with all the info. More then ever we need to look out for one another. I would like to hear from other Locals on Local 1's website , informing us what concerns they have for July 2007? After all THEY WERE HERE FOR Local 1 during lockout. God what a great feeling that was of UNITY and strength shown to US here at Local 1. I am presently putting a letter together to Dan Brigham, regarding all the IUEC locals voting at one time for one contract. "INCLUDING LOCAL 1" IF OUR CONSTITUTION AND BY/LAWS PROHIBIT THIS? WELL THEN I FEEL STRONGLY TOWARDS the need for a change. What about all for 1? What about strength in numbers? We need more members to STEP UP. We need volunteers young and old. We can all teach each other and educate the younger brothers and sisters, why It is extremely important to get involved. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! Think about what can I do for my union, my family, my community. BE GRATEFUL for members like Mike Duffy, he is part of the solution, not the problem.WE MUST MOVE FOWARD , WE MUST ALWAYS IMPROVE !!! Thanks for reading...............What about me??? I had a great day , worked hard came home and spent the rest of my day with my 2 children and wife in the pool , we had dinner outside on the deck. We have our health we have each other, God it dont get better then that. Thanks again Respectfully Submitted Brother Brian Link card #1347 never more proud to be member of Local 1

Gary's condition is improving every day. I spoke to Sissy, and she said Gary recognizes the people around him and he is remembering phone numbers. Keep those prayers coming.

Well It was great to sign on tonight and read some GOOD news. The Local 1 bagpipe band did great on their competition, Although I never played this instrument both my children play numerous instruments and I know how hard and long they practice. I just wanted to personally congratulate each and every member of the band . WAY TO GO Brothers!!! Regarding the confusion on behalf of some brothers regarding the contract, we must we must go forward with this contract.Any questions that you are not sure of ask your steward first, these people are the first in line in the chain of commands.  We must more then ever PROTECT and Preserve our work. We must continue to be professional ,we always need to work safe. The most important part of your job , is to work safe, do YOUR job and nobody else's. We work in a dangerous trade, you must work safe, work according to guidelines, SAFETY RULES are our friend . Continue to work safe and smart so you will come home to your family every evening . My thoughts and prayers are with brother Gary Haynes. I was also extremely pleased to see brother Lou Grammelle this week (his son was injured on a motorcycle accident back in June) , his son is home and will be in physical rehab but it was great news to hear he is on his way back!!!! To both of these young men I am very glad to hear they are doing better. May God Bless them with a full recovery. We have many challenges ahead of us , but please remember those who are less fortunate, regarding their health, their work situation or any other obstacle in their daily life. I would also like to thank all the brothers at Schindler Long Island , I couldnt ask for a finer bunch of brothers.I would like to throw something out there? Since we arent having  a Local 1 picnic? How about a get together in your area? I would like to suggest a get together on Long Island? Why not call on some brothers and sisters who have make you proud, maybe it wont be as big as Local ones? But dont be fooled when your around people you like and make you proud, you dont have to have 500plus people, I respect our Elected Officials decision, but why not? Just a thought, work safe and remain proud and remain strong. Time to water the neighbors lawn , signed the south shore cannonball king Brother Brian Link still educated, well trained and extremely proud to be amember of  Local 1.

Dear brothers and sisters....

I would like to make a correction to my last post....A brother e-mailed me and brought to my attention an omission in one of my sentences...Where I wrote

..."I'm glad brother Gary Haynes is on the mend, no doubt the prayers helped"  I followed with the sentence..." And I believe we need to put the whole thing behinds us and move on" ..In my haste to write the post I neglected to put in front of the latter..."As for the lockout" the correct sentences should have read ...I'm glad brother Gary Haynes is on the mend, no doubt the prayers helped. As for the lockout I believe we need to put the whole things behind us and move on.."  If anyone out there misunderstood it, I apologized...How can we ever forget what this brother has gone through I assure you it was an unintentional error...

work safe brothers and sisters...

According to our retroactive contract we voted in, any job started after March 17,2005 can go to 8Hrs even if it started at 7Hrs.  That was confirmed to be true with our hall.

I understand a lot of TKE's jobs are switching to 8hrs and some jobs are starting new at 8hrs.

No doubt that every job from this point on would be an 8hr construction job.  I'm going to get warmer clothes for the cold ,long days in lower Manhattan.

Mike P..It is my understanding that the 7 hr work day is still in effect. The 8 hour work day is job specific and the company must get permission from the union. If you are working 8 hours on a 7 hour job you are entitled to an hour ot. Check with the hall. Ed

Today is Sunday July 17th, a full 3 weeks since being back to work.Lets be grateful for what we have, not what we dont have.Someones relative posted earlier that their is still members here at Loacl 1 "out of work". Lets remember those who are less fortunate then us. Take a moment and say a prayer for Brother Gary Haynes.I would like to commend brother William Dutra regarding his unconditional effort and support of Gary Haynes during his time of need. When you reach out to others who are less fortunate, (whethers its financial, health, addiction or just Hard Times) the feeling you will get in return is overwhelming. You will have everything you want in life ,if you just help others get what they want, what they deserve, what they need. Regardless of what you have, PLEASE dont be a ME person. We all have the same 24 hours a day afforded to us by God,what are you doing with your 24 hours to make a difference? Whether you voted yes or no for our contract, what are you doing to make yourself a better member of Local 1? At home , Be the best Dad , the best Mom. be the best spouse. Maybe you don't get along great with one of your brothers or sisters or even your mom or dad??? Why not give them a call? be the better person, ask them how THEY are doing. I am extremely grateful for all I have!!! For those of you that know me , I am a stand up brother, I will always fight for what I believe is right. I remain educated ,informed and well trained. But most of all I am PROUD to be good Local 1 member, a good husband, a good dad and a good brother " to my family at home" as well as at work.Lets stop looking back at what could have been? Lets start looking foward to what are we going to do to make this a better place to work and live? Thanks for your time Brother Brian Link..................also thanks to Mike Duffy who continues to run this web page and monitor my posts . HATS OFF TO DUFF!

Hello my brothers and sisters..

It’s been two weeks now since we’re back. And quite honestly I’m glad to be back…There’s no way we can recover what we’ve lost in wages and borrowed money from our annuities but at least we’re back.. as it was the bonus turn out to be only one check because the other went on taxes. But I’m grateful that we had a little something to come back to. During this lockout I made some new friends and found out just how big the hearts of the members of Local #1 really is.. The international rallied behind us and together we made it through the storm. I have a lot of respect for our leadership and the brothers that sacrificed so much being out there daily minding the lines and scouting for scabs.I could name everyone of them but for fear of omiting any, suffice to say that I’m proud to have stood shoulder to shoulder with these brothers and I tell you a finer bunch don’t exist.

I for one I’m extremely please that no violence was ever contemplated and although we had some anxious moments with some of these individuals nothing came of it. I’m glad that brother Gary Haynes is on the mend, no doubt the prayers helped. And I believe we need to put the whole thing behind us and move on. A lot of brothers have changed hats and for them new horizons await them. I’m personally saddened by the departure of some of them for I’ve worked with these gentlemen for a lot of years and as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow ..they will be missed, perhaps not by the companies but certainly by us. The way I see it losing anyone dimisishes us all as a whole. But we all have the god given right to pursue our own destiny and to those brothers that have left I say god speed and may you always have sunny skies about you and a tail wind to take you where you’re going…work safe and take care. To those that remain let’s pick up where we left off , work safe and NEVER EVER FORGET……

From me and mine to you and yours

Have a great weekend

Gary has indeed been moved to a rehab facility close to home! As of this posting he should have his tracheotomy tube capped and will soon start being able to speak.

As per Sissy everyone is impressed with the strength and fight Gary is putting up. She also would like to thank each and every person who took the time to post a note to Gary @ GaryHaynesLocal1@aol.com  The postings are greatly appreciated in the families time of need and for that, Thank You to all!

We are also thinking about a Golf Outing thanks to Tom Slattery and were wondering how many would be interested. Understand this is a fund raising event that would be open to all. A social event as it were whether you play or not. A good time will be had by all if we can make it happen.

Contact GhaynesLocal1@aol.com if interested in such an event so that we can plan it.

Respectfully,

Bill Dutra

I have been reading some of the comments that appear on this page. There seem to be a lot of complaints about bonus checks, taxes withheld, etc. Let us just keep in mind that there are some "brothers" that were out of work before the lockout and remain without a steady job and some without work at all.
No paycheck, no bonus check, no vacation check for these brothers!!!!!!!!
Let's just hope with the new contract, that there is employment for ALL OF THE LOCAL ONE MEMBERS!!!!!!!!!!!

If any brothers or sisters have kids that are starting college this Fall. Save yourself self some aggravation with our medical plan, as soon as your child is registered for classes, have them go to the Bursars Office and get a letter stating that they are full  time students, and mail it to our medical plan, registered mail. If they do not have this letter, all claims for your child will be denied.

Also, make up a tool box for your kid so you can get their dorm roon in shape, it will also make them popular with all the other students. Also bring some light extension cords, phone cords, duct tape, nails, screws and anything else you will need to set up a room. It will save you a lot of running around and a lot of money. And don't forget rolls of quarters for the laundry. Getting an 800 number for the house is also good, so they can call home anytime, it will make it easier for them to call you for money.

Just wanted to thank the 1225 brothers who voted yes.  As of today I am now working 8 hour construction days.  Our job was just upgraded from 7hr days to 8 hr days since it was started after March 17,2005. However we are getting more pension hrs and a raise per year working the 5 extra hours.

I have to get used to getting home later .  Do we get afternoon breaks?  Work safe.

brothers and sisters , the reason your bonus check seems a little light is that the company taxes they say it is a bonus ,bonus checks get taxed at a higher rate. over 40%,  kone does this with our vacation pay also,
