Brothers and Sisters,

Hope everyone is doing well.  Just a reminder about job description.  Our work is our work.  Just because we have a team standing by, doesn't make it right for the company to sub out our work to non Local 1 or non-union shop.  Remember, the team that stands by today, could be sitting on the bench tomorrow.  If you see this happening, simply call your shop steward or business agent.

More importantly are my deepest wishes for Brother Gary Haynes to make a healthy recovery.  We all need to keep him in our prayers.

     Work safe and smart all.

Good evening brothers and sisters. While working out in the field many members have been asking valid questions? How will Local 1 allocate any money collected from the PAC FUND and/or Defense fund? For Local 1 to be sucessful in these 2 endeavors we need to be INFORMED. For any members who have questions regarding pac/defense funds or any questions regarding our new contract, PLEASE ask away. THe only stupid question is the one that you never ask. Their is alot of members who have valid questions, their is alot of mebers who have GREAT ideas, you as a member of any organization are the GRASS ROOTS, OUR elected officials work extremely hard! They represent OUR BELIEFS, OUR IDEAS, THEY will unconditionally protect and preserve whats important to US "as union members" . But they can only represent us if we as members get involved and keep them informed. For those of you that dont go to meetings, or dont think Its important to vote? Please give yourself and your family a big boost! Get involved , at work , at home, and in your community and your choice of faith. I personally have good feelings about Local 1 and our future.

On another note , please read the August Elevator Constructor. Please specifically read the article written by Kevin Stringer, regarding Healthcare in our industry. READ IT! UNDERSTAND IT! Besides Kevins excellent research and knowledge on the subject, he goes on to say in 2007 our members really need to be prepared. Kevin also makes reference to what Emany did to Local 1 , Emany were ready , Emany were organized . So I ask brothers and sisters ? What are you doing here at Local 1 and abroad doing to be financially prepared? Please be ready to fight the fight! Because If you are ready, you can really MAKE A STANCE for what you need and believe in. Thank you Kevin Stringer for your no-nonsense article . I appreciate your honesty and concern for all members of the IUEC.

I will continue to move foward to protect and preserve our work. I remain informed , educated, well trained and extremely PROUD to carry a paid union card. As always Family comes first, LIVE YOUR LIFE WITH ENERGY for what we as working families deserve. Thanks for reading Brother Brian Link

ABOUT THE SERVICE THEY RECEIVED DURING THE LOCKOUT WE ALSO SHOULD REMEMBER THAT ALOT OF THE BIG BLDG. OWNERS WERE FOOLED INTO THINKING THESE COMPANIES WERE THERE FRIENDS AND SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL DYEING TOGET BACK TO THE COMPANIES THAT PUT THEM AND THERE FAMILIES ON THE STREETS WITHOUT GIVING YOU A SECOND THOUGHT NOW YOUR LEAVING COMPANIES THAT WERE MORE THAN WILLING TO GIVE YOU A JOB WHEN YOU HAD NONE AND RETURN TO YOUR OLD COMPANY BECAUSE THEY OFFER TO BUY YOU BACK HEY ITS 3.5 YEARS AWAY FROM THE NEXT CONTRACT NEVER FORGET NOT NOW NOT EVER!!!!!

Today is Weds and today was the first paycheck I received that had the Correct Annuity/per hour rate. My question is how to we go about as a group ( Presently Schindler Employees) , to receive our shorted Annuity monies in our previous checks since being back to work on June 28th?? We also are owed this money at the date we were supposed to receive it , so we will have the proper interest that was accrued. I was pleased to see that the proper amount was there today, and I will continue to move foward regarding our new contract, but feel very strongly that we need to Ratify our annuity shortfall ASAP. Hopefully everyone is doing well, hopefully everyone is still looking out for one another. More importantly lets keep praying for brother Gary Haynes, we need to continue to not only support Brother Gary Haynes but all people who need our prayers and words of encouragement. Many people are less fortunate then ourselves, we need to reach out and make a difference in their lives. Once again thanks for reading , as always I will as always remain strong, well trained, and will always work safe and look out for my fellow brothers and sisters. Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link card #1347

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Please do not give up on your P.A.C. Fund, it takes time to get things done, politics is a slow moving wheel.

It took us five years to get our bill passed, and had to  change it a million times to considered.

These things do not happen over night!!!!!!

I got a message tonight from Gary's fiance(Sissy) and she said that the rehab center is very happy with Gary's progress. She said that he was up walking around today with the help of the staff. She left me his phone number at the rehab center, so that means he would be able to talk to me when I call him tomorrow. Please keep up the prayers for Gary and his family. Take Care, Freddie

Dear Brother Tom Moore,

I would just like to say thank you. I appreciate all the email you have been fowarding me regarding unions and organizing. We all need to be more involved and send emails , write letters and even stop by or phone our Local labor friendly politicians. If their not labor friendly , share your stance on why they SHOULD support working families.

To all my brothers and sisters , we need to get more involved . Lets not forget to continue to pray and support our injured Brother Gary Haynes, he will continue to need our prayers . He needs to know we are all thinking of him. Gary I am praying for you to enjoy a full recovery, fight the fight and get better brother. I am looking foward to all our members getting more involved , talk to your shop stewards, talk to your business agents. Let them know whats important to you and your family. Most of all WORK SAFE and continue to protect and preserve OUR work. When you pass a new building going up STOP IN !!!! see who is doing the Local 1 work. These companies come in at night , they work for Peanuts on weekends . They, if they are not union are taking your lunch!!! WAKE UP , get off your A.. and do something. If someone pushes you? You push back! So why If someone takes your work, steals your food , You sit back and say , IT DONT EFFECT ME? If they arent Union , educate them show them why it would be better for their family, their safety , their future, continue to educate the Non union and the public riders. Please dont do nothing. For those of you who refuse to do something " Dont bit.. and moan when you are out of work" . For those of you who refuse to vote, Dont complain when you dont like the contract, your assembly person. Once again I remain educated, skilled , and  very strong for my beliefs and extremely proud to carry a paid UNion card for Local 1 . Time to water the neighbors lawn, ready to work on perfecting the  south shore cannonball . Most of all work safe and look after one another Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link aka Captain America

Is the PAC fund money we give to politicians to get bills passed? Well, with the safety bill dead, maybe we are greasing the wrong palms. I have sent Mike Duffy the final set of scab pics, lets hope some of these guys get identified.

Danbo:  Make no mistake why the elevator safety bill was defeated again.

The IBEW stopped it. The IBEW enjoys licensing, but they don't want the elevator constructor to  benefit from it.

The only way this bill will get passed is with both unions looking at the non union  problem as our "common ground". Thanks for getting your assemblywomen to sign on. We will get it done, but it will not be easy. We have to get labor friendly bills passed, not just the elevator safety bill. We have many issues to work on. So keep an eye on the mail box for the PAC fund info.

Work Safe and take care of each other.

we better be prepared in 09!,I for one am not getting hit from left field again.I find that the public really needs to be educated,I talk to everyone, each time I get on an elevator and someone says ,oh I feel so much safer with you on the elevator.I used to joke and say ..I can scream for help too.But now I take that 5 minutes to educate anyone who will listen,If I am reading a good article on the subway I open my newspaper larger so the person next to me doesn't have to strain there neck,I  used to think it rude, now I look at it as sharing knowledge.I have been printing up tank tops on weekends for myself with sayings like corporate greed sucks,I hope to print more one day and pass them out.I am still checking web sites for what bills are up and what politicians are doing what.I have written Hillary Clinton several times and invited her to our meetings,(she sucks) sorry Lenny, but moving on,I have invested in a coupon organizer and am banking any pay check that comes  in a fifth week month.I will live on 4  paychecks a month and pretend I never saw the fifth. My car will  soon be paid and this is the last year for my daughters  high school tuition.(yes the middle child goes to private because if she went to regular she would get her but kicked weekly)I hope to keep the debts down,I also canceled my otis 401K.Hoping  everyone is doing well,I would like to invite myself over to Brians Pool ( just kidding) cause this heat has been unbearable.Work safe, stay hydrated ,be well.

Well its Tuesday night, the Yankees are winning " for a change ". I hope Gary Haynes is doing well, Im so happy to hear that he is improving daily. I cant help but think and hope that our members will be more prepared in 2009? I am really looking foward to a PAC fund being set up. I also feel that a Local 1 defense fund is long overdue. I was wondering? What are you doing to better prepare yourself for the next contract? Lets face it brothers and sisters we all know we HAVE to learn from our previous mistakes. We could really make a stance for how we  REALLY NEED to feel about our contract and work conditions. Just for a suggestion , the elevator constructor is FULL of ideas from all the Locals writers, regarding being prepared  on how to save a few dollars.Kevin Stringer of the international has some great articles in the elevator constructor "filled with facts". Which is another HUGE topic how to provide QUALITY healthcare for all our members?Kevin keep up the communication , we appreciate it!  We all must be more prepared . I would encourage any ideas on this website regarding making us more prepared and also to become a better UNION. I also would like to take a moment to thank Tony Carudo for his efforts 24/7 , Tony is a great  union, family man who stands strong all year long. Please brothers and sisters get involved stay involved. To all members of the IUEC , what are you going to do to make your Local better?? Whether its Local 4 in Boston, Local 10 in DC? We need to stand together! We all need to do our share , we all need to take the bull by the horns and get UNIONS back to where they belong . We are so well trained, we are so well educated we are a highly skilled trade, lets STAY UNITED !!! LETS SEE MORE MEMBERS AT MEETINGS, lets get together often and discuss our future whether its at a diner, or after work. I always think Its a shame , that you can work on call ? you can work late , you can start early, or work a saturday or sunday? But some of us wont attend a meeting or on a smaller scale get together with some of our fellow union brothers and sisters for a cup of coffee and some shop talk. Lets look at the big picture its not about you, after all its only YOUR livelyhood. Make asmart choice  BE PART OF THE SOLUTION ....not the problem. I am looking foward to our future here at Local 1 and looking foward to banding together with all the IUEC locals, after all we were completely UNITED during the EMANY induced lockout. I will never forget the feeling I had when our brothers and sisters throughout the country backed us 100 % and supported us from day 1 Thank you We will never forget. Well the Yankees actually won 4-0, and the pool awaits . Thanks for reading and how about it? What are you going to do for your union? your family? your community? your faith? You either make a decision to be IN ? or OUT? make the smart choice Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link

Its 2 a.m. ,another restless night and of course I must share it.I actually want to take a moment on how important a code word is  to have with your kids.My daughter whose curfew is 12:30 called me at 12:00 to tell me she was on her way home. She never does that.I sat back down  as I always do and wait for all children to be accounted for,but it bothered me that she phoned,I thought it was odd,Then I recalled her exact words I'm on my way home banana .Banana.! Banana was code when she was 10 in-case someone tried to pick her up from school ,they had to know the code word,.I leaped off the couch and into my car.My heart raced as I thought the worst,I drove down the block she would walk and sure enough ,3 girls were taking her pocketbook,I don't want to get into details cause I expect  the police to knock any minute but Don't mess with Momma Bear is all I have to say on that. This kid took into action a code we used when I divorced and I want all my co- workers kids to always be safe and have a code.Sometimes there isn't enough time to explain whats happening. Now...where the heck is my  Tylenol p.m.?
