card number 1688 Comments: Danbo, congratulations for having the courage to put your name on a ballot and stand for election, it takes guts. But please learn how to spell amendment before you become correspondent. Also the 1st amendment only protects you from having the GOVERNMENT taking away your right to expression. If you are not making sense everyone else has the right to ask you to shut up. You don't have to but they can ask. Good luck.
card number 14 Comments: Good luck to all who are running for office in the upcoming election. Semper Fi, Frederick McCourt

card number 1179 Comments: Hopefuls wait in line for more than 24 hours for elevator repair job applicationsSunday, April 25th 2010, 4:00 AM Davies for News People camped out to receive applications from the Joint Apprentice and Training Committee of the Elevator Industry of Local 3. Only 750 applications are being distributed on Monday, April 26, on a first-come basis. They waited on line day and night, sleeping in tents and playing cards to pass the time. They weren't hoping to buy iPads or concert tickets. They wanted jobs. Local 3 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers will hand out applications for elevator repair apprenticeships at 9 a.m. Monday. By midday Saturday, the line stretched three blocks - and some of the hopefuls had already been there more than 24 hours. "The early bird gets the worm," said Jesse Freeman, 27, of Woodhaven, Queens, who got in line at 4 a.m. Friday. "I don't mind sacrificing four nights for this." Most in the crowd of 200 said they were drawn there by the promise of well-paid jobs with good benefits. Many were out of work, like Freeman's friend, Jeremy Fernandez, 24, also of Woodhaven, who lost his construction job six months ago. "It would definitely improve our lives," he said, adding that he has a 1-year-old son. "It's not just a job. It's a career." Some in line killed time by playing cards. William Santo, 39, of Whitestone, Queens, said he has been getting by on $10 to $12 an hour doing residential electrical work since losing his bank job. "A guy like me with two kids and a mortgage - it's tough," he said. "This is one of the best jobs in the city. I don't want to lose a chance to get an application." His anxiety was echoed by Joe Barclay, 52, of Staten Island, who got in line at 1 p.m. Saturday. "It would mean a lot to me to get this job," Barclay said. "Right now it's tough to find anything, but you have to keep on trying and hoping for the best." Union officials could not be reached for comment.
card number 14 Comments: I spoke with Greg Gitto today and his son Andrew is doing really well. He had surgery on his hand and he should be able to have full motion with his thumb in time. His eye is going to be 100% fine but the two rounds that are in his body will be left in there. He should hopefully be home within a week or so and be able to recover with his family and friends by his side. Mom and Dad are both doing great and both of them are very impressed with the way the USMC brass is treating them. Peace!!! Semper Fi, Freddie
card number 14 Comments: Andrew Gitto, the UNITED STATES MARINE who was wounded in Afghanistan has been transported to a hospital in Iraq. He was supposed to be flown to Germany but the flights are being canceled due to the volcanic ashe that is in the air. He will be flown back to the states on the first available flight and be admitted to Walter Reed hospital in DC. Andrews injury to his eye seems to be doing good but the injury to his finger seems to be a lot more serious. The bullet that entered his chest has been left in place until he enters a better hospital, Walter Reed. Please keep the prayers coming!!! Peace!!! I will keep you updated. Semper Fi, The McCourts
card number 10 Comments: I want to thank those of you who took the time to vote for my daughters Band "West of Galway" I told her she probably had Local 1 to thank. For those of you who may be curious my wife is Irish American. her parents came from Galway and Sligo. I am of course Italian but my mom was born in Edinburgh Scotland. When I was singing in an Italian restaurant the owner knew my daughter was president of the Naples Irish American club so one night he asked me. Hey Toma, don't your daughter know dat she's Italian. I told him he would have to talk to her mother.
card number 14 Comments: Brother Greg Gitto, a shop steward for Thyssen repair in New Jersey has a son named Andrew who is a UNITED STATES MARINE!!! Andrew was wounded last night while he was on patrol in Afghanistan. He was shot in the shoulder and the bullet traveled through to his chest and skimmed his lung. He was also hit in his hand and he also suffered an eye injury due to shrapnel. Andrew will live but he needs all the prayers that we can muster!!! He is a kid, 20 years old? The good thing about this is that he will be able to come home as a HERO when his wounds heal and be with his mom & dad and the rest of his family. God Bless You young Marine and stay strong!!! I will keep everybody updated on him as the information comes in. Peace!!!! Semper Fi, The McCourts
