Tuesday is April 17th, exactly 23 months until the end of our present contract. Are you prepared?
We have a regular union meeting on Thursday April 19th. We also have our general elections in June. We need to start setting goals here at Local One, as individual members as well as an organization. We need to align ourselves more with the international ( Same voting year on our contracts is a start). We must become more politically active locally so we can achieve and get the respect we DESERVE nationally. We must all get involved and do our part. Licensing, Work Preservation and Organizing as well as educating our members to a higher level then ever before, why stop when you get your mechanics card? Be better and you will be recognized and rewarded , EDUCATION is knowledge.
The New York/ New Jersey has one of it's greatest opportunities on front of it in the near future , major construction projects are bigger and need manpower. We as a union need to never think like " FAT" cats , we need to want all the work. We need to go after all the work in all the departments, Construction, Service and Modernization . If we don't pursue all this work , the result will be devastating , Local 3 IBEW and NON-UNION will grow and become stronger. We need to get licensing and also get QEI certified inspectors to have the opportunity to become part of the IUEC. This could be extremely vital to keep our members while Protecting our work and safety of the riding public.
We have some great opportunities in front of us , we need to continue to challenge ourselves as talented craftsmen in a very fine union. Like I stated earlier we only have 23 months until our next contract. We need to start preparing ourselves and address our needs as members for NEGOTIATIONS TODAY. Start by getting involved , help YOUR union, be a giver not a taker.
As always I will continue to be an educated, involved and proud member of Local One IUEC .
                23 months and counting................
             Respectfully Submitted Brother Brian Link

****May 4th is brother Joe Nolans retirement party , a fine example of a involved proud union brother.......Congrats!!!

Greetings everyone...  Hope this posting finds everyone (brothers, sisters and their families) well, in good health and spirits.  It has been quite some time since I have posted.  There has been alot going on at the Agnello house.  We have finally gotten out of Staten Island...LOL, and are loving life in our new house in Spotswood, NJ.  On a sadder note we have to have our little ANGEL Rachel put to sleep this past November, we do however have our CRAZZZZZZY little devil Herbie to keep us busy.  I hope everyone will have a Happy Easter or Passover.  Also, was just wondering if there is going to be a Local 1 picnic this year.  I had a blast at last years and would love to attend again.  Bye for now.  Work safe and take care.

As Always,
THE PROUD WIFE OF PAUL AGNELLO

Today is Saturday April 7th, the new quarterly union cards are tan in color ( April,May, June) continue to challenge every member for his/her PAID union card. If he doesn't possess one let your Steward or BA know, just refuse to work with this person. Why Not?
Tomorrow is Easter Sunday, for Christians it commemorates the resurrection of Christ. Hopefully you be spending the day with your family . Please wake up everyday being "GRATEFUL" for what God had afforded us here in the United States. Please take a moment of your busy life and Pray for all the men & women of the armed forces who continue to protect all of US. Whenever I see a soldier or a veteran , I always take a moment and tell them how GRATEFUL and proud I am of them.
Most of all I hope everyone is doing well. Baseball season is here my Yankees are having an interesting start, the Mets are doing well and lets hope its a competitive season good luck to all.
Please take some time and spend it with your family and friends. Please reach out and give to others less fortunate then yourself . As always I remain a very involved and educated and proud member of Local One IUEC.
ELECTIONS ARE IN JUNE , DON'T SIT IDLY BY AND WATCH!!!!
GET INVOLVED! ASK YOURSELF WHATS IMPORTANT TO ME AND MY FAMILY? An idle mind is the devils workshop.
             WORK SAFE & WORK SMART

Dear Brothers & Sisters:

Michelle will be at Local One, IUEC Monday morning bright and early to start the class, anyone who hasn't gotten the paperwork in, Just show up and we will take care of the paperwork Monday morning. You can call ASME and order the books today. I will be their Monday to help get the class started.   Brother Tom Moore

The Paper work for the upcoming QEI class (Apr 9 - 13) is at the hall, if you plan on taking the class please call Sue Noble at the front desk and she will mail out a packet to you.

This is an example of what we did in Dec for our last QEI class

"We're delighted to have the opportunity to return to Local 1 for another QEI Certification review class and exam.  to begin the week's review class.  All the terms and conditions remain the same as those presented in our last proposal; specifically, the cost per person will be $800.00, all inclusive (application fee, review seminar, and certification exam).   This cost is only good for Local 1 members -- the seminar and exam fees are higher for the "general public."  The review course runs Monday thru Thursday, and the exam is given on Friday.

Fees must be paid in advance.  Also, each participant must submit a FULLY completed application for certification, including both the employer reference and personal reference forms PRIOR to attending the course.

Applications and fees should be sent directly to Taylor Technologies Group/Lift Technologies International.  (either name is acceptable, as LTI is a subsidiary of TTG)  All MAIL (including Express Mail)  should be sent to P. O. Box 21672, Roanoke, VA  24018.  Send all applications to my attention.

If application packages are sent via Fed-X, UPS, DHL, or other NEXT DAY carrier, the correct physical address is 3451 Brandon Avenue, Suite 28, Roanoke, VA  24018.  Any mail sent to the physical address will probably be lost or sent back to the sender, as our mail carrier seems to be incapable of reading addresses.  Avoid any complications by sending mail to the P. O. Box.

Under separate cover to you, I will send another copy of the list of the latest required reference codes.  Each participant must have his/her own reference codes to bring to the course.  In summary, each participant must at least have the latest editions of ASME A17.1, A17.2, A17.3, A17.1S, A18.1, ASME QEI-1 and the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70).  All of the ASME codes can be obtained directly by ASME in NY -- call 1-800-THE ASME to order.  NFPA 70 can be obtained from most electrical supply stores (or get an electrical contractor to give you one), or can be ordered from Elevator World.  You can order on-line at elevatorbooks.com.  (The Field Employees' Safety Handbook -- which is also a "required" reference can also be ordered here.)

The review class begins at 8:00 am daily, Monday thru Thursday.  It's scheduled to run until 5:00 pm each day, although we'll try to end a little early to allow for the traffic conditions.  On Friday, participants should be there by 7:30 am.  The exam will start promptly at 8:00 am, and will end at 2:00 pm.

Anyone with questions may call me directly -- 540-772-4964.  If I am not in the office, calls will be forwarded directly to my personal cell phone.  If I'm in a pit (out of cell phone range) my personal mailbox will accept messages, and I check those several times each day.

Thank you again for the opportunity to come to Local 1.  I look forward to meeting another great class!

Dear Brothers and sisters,

On March 17th all members should have received their new rate of pay. Please check your paychecks starting next week .

I also would like to let any member reading this website that brother Duffy has added a new " BUTTON" to  sign on page ( a Constitution/ Bylaw Revision Page) . We have the opportunity to change our own constitution/ bylaws with a change to be read at 3 meetings then voted on at 3rd meeting.

I wan't to REMIND all Local One members to protect OUR work. Any questions of concerns should go directly to your business agent. We NEED to make sure that LOCAL ONE MEMBERS are doing OUR work , no one else!! This applies to all testing as well as repairs and service open orders. Don't look the other way! We all need to secure OUR work for the future, we all need to check the people doing our testing, our repairs and any work .

NEIEP is offers many courses after you receive your mechanics card . Above and beyond your IUEC certification. We can be the best trade in the world if we ALL continue to take all the education opportunities being offered to us . We need to show everyone that we are better then the best .

EDUCATION, PASSION and a never ending commitment to continually improve yourself and OUR trade. The New York , New Jersey area will be a very busy place in the very near future, will you be ready? Just remember brothers and sisters, If you aren't prepared and educated to do the work??? Who Will? We are the best, we are the IUEC.

Come to the meetings, get involved , give a sh..., stop blaming others and be responsible for your own shoes. If you have an idea or suggestion ??? I'm listening...........

I will as always remain an extremely involved, educated and very proud PAID union card carrying member of the IUEC.

I would like to thank the member who called me today regarding some very serious threats to Local One and OUR work , including testing and repairs. We still have some of the finest union members !!!

                                 In Solidarity Brother Brian Link

Lately My editorials have been edited and chopped up like crazy, leaving my point ( I think, out there in the wind)So I am posting my latest rant in full ,right here,so if you see it in newsday all chopped up like last weeks this is  what was sent.  Happy Saint Paddy's day.

An open letter to James P. Pinkerton and all anti union people at Newsday.I don't disagree about the military taking over homeland security but I do dislike  how you threw your opinion of unions in there. It takes skills and training to build skyscrapers and the elevators that  keep them going. ,It took unionizing to make sure these people got a fair pay with benefits,or should we all apply for medicaid. It bothers me so  because  it makes me feel like Me and my children are worth nothing to people like you.we should wait on you ,serve your food, clean your clothes, build your cars   Watch your children for 8 hours and  administer  there health care. I understand some of your feelings  but you are believing myths,Tenure is not a guarantee that you can  sit in your class and not teach all day,it protects you from that horrible person who dislikes you and wants you gone at any price. No one wants to say it,but some of these kids are just not teachable and no amount of money is going to change that.I know people drive past highway workers who are sitting down and there first thought is No wonder its taking three years to repave the road, but the fact is,these people work hard every day in all kinds of weather, and guess what ? They are allowed lunch.I don't think Long island would exist if it were not for union workers, Who do you think makes up the passengers on the long island railroad.who can afford to own a home here ? who can afford to take the train for 200 dollars a month,I am not always proud of our leaders, from clerks to wall street they go bad, (hello Enron)but I am always proud to be union. The news is more powerful then the president of the united states of America,  and I don't take kindly to your anti union stance, We are not animals,we have degrees, student loans to pay off, family's,we vacation in Disney World  ,We  keep the economy going!!!,So please rethink your little digs you take at union workers  during  your articles, The majority reading  it,are union workers on there way to  do things  that you  just take advantage of. THankyou ,Liz Nielsen

In response to the posting about the IBEW international pension.  I know that Tim, my late husband, didnot receive any information form a Mr. Erickson regarding the loss of any portion of any pension when Tim joined Local 1 with the rest of Millar in 2000.  Very early on I tried to inquire about this but was always given a deaf ear by whoever I called in Local 3 or the international IBEW.  Life got in the way and I stopped trying.  Now that Tim is gone I want to again try to see that I  gets what he was entitled to.  Tim would have wanted it that way.  27 years of his 31 in the business were with Local 3.  When I think that his illness may have been from enviornmental exposure I get even more angry at the lies.   I will again pick up the cause.  I will write to Mr Siegal with th IBEW this week and I will post my respones.

Most do not know the problem facing the injured brothers and s

isters whose jobs as operators were lost recently. There is good chance we will lose our benefits and 60% of our pensions if we can not work in the elevator industry again. The problem is, there are only about 75 or 100 people who fall into this catagory,so nobody is willing to go out of their way to help with this problem.I have been trying for over a year to get the local leadership to help with this.I think brother carudo finally sent a letter to the international on our behalf last month.I asked our president for help at the last meeting before  before the convention and nothing on this topic was even discussed at the convention.

Myself and others have been trying to get the international to look into this situation.I have written and  have spoken to Kevin Stringer he said he would forword my letter to the appropriate party.I might be mistaken but as chairman of the trustees he is the appropiate party to speak to about this issue?

We spoke three months ago about this issue and I have not heard from him since.I left him a message last week and he has not returned my call.So I decided to write him another letter hoping for a reply.

After I mailed the letter and going through my mail the next day I received my March constructor and to my amazement Mr. Stringer wrote an article about other trades losing their pensions and benefits and in the article he stated they probably didnt have union representation.I have union representation dont I? Yet I am going through the same thing now with our leadership not helping with this situation.I have been trying to get help with this for about fourteen months now.But it seem every time ther seem to be a little daylight another door seems to close on us.

I GUESS WITH THERE ONLY BEING ONE HUNDRED BROTHERS AND SISTERS INVOLVED WITH THIS ISSUE THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH VOTES FOR THIS TO BE VERY IMPORTANT FOR FOR THE LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL LEADERS TO TAKE A SERIOUS LOOK AT CORRECTING THIS AWFUL TREATMENT OF THE INJURED BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF LOCAL ONE.CAN ANYONE TELL ME A GOOD REASON FOR FOURTEEN MONTHS OF THIS ISSUE BEING IGNORED BY OUR LEADERSHIP AT ALL LEVELS.IF YOU CAN, PLEASE TELL ME .I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING FOR OVER TWENTY SIX YEARS AND  THE WAY WE HAVE BEEN TREATED, THE IUEC SHOULD BE EMBARRESSED TREATING INJURED BROTHERS AND SISTERS THIS WAY!

ELECTIONS ARE COMING UP I HOPE EVERYONE GETS OUT AND VOTES WE ARE AT VERY IMPORTANT TURNING POINT WITHIN THIS LOCAL.

So March 17th 2007 is next week. NEVER FORGET. I ask the membership including your spouses? Are you better prepared today? Have you done anything Pro-Active to assist your family in the future? Put a small small percentage of your weekly paycheck aside for that "Rainy Day" or unforeseen situation. If we can't delay gratification, the " seeds" of greatness are not withing us.

On March 15th we will have another important union meeting. Nominations will be held for a interim  BA position until the actual general elections in June. I ask you, WHO do you want to lead our Local?

Their are many extremely important issues facing ALL unions today. We need to start bringing our local into the future. EDUCATION , PRIDE and PASSION for your trade is key. These values will also assist you in your life @ home and in your communities as well at your job. We need to start working together on a contract that UNITES US , not divides us . We need to work under an agreement that brings our working conditions closer together , NOT PITS us against one another . ALL FOR ONE?? Speak the truth , walk the walk, lets start putting that " CHAIN " together.

We have alot of work ahead of us here @ Local One . Most of all work safe , check each other for a working union card. I'm asking you , where will you be in JUNE 2007 ? Please get involved , Please be grateful for what we have here in Local One I.U.E.C.

Unions are under attack all over , just pick up your newspaper everyday and you will see . We need to start a PAC fund, if you can send a small check to the international PAC fund, that's a start? We need to Educate our members to an even higher standard ( read the Elevator Constructor March issue NEIEP page). Why not help yourself? Why stop after you receive your Mechanics card?

As always I will remain educated, involved and extremely proud to be a member of Local 1. I will never look the other way. DO WHATS RIGHT FOR THE ENTIRE MEMBERSHIP @ LOCAL ONE !

                   Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link

 Happy St. Patricks Day!

****PLEASE read your monthly elevator constructor, and good luck to the International on their new contract . STAY STRONG!
