re: Brother Killduff's post

I would just like to point that the election that Brother Green lost was a bid for the General President. He was, at the time a VP.

Sisters and Brothers of Local One,

I am one of the local 23 delegates and a former member of local One. I would like to thank Local One for their gift of appreciation for the help we provided during your lockout last year. The Presentation of theses plaques to all the locals involved was not only extremely impressive to experience but also Exemplified the true meaning of Brotherhood. During this presentation I looked around as the plaques were give out local by local and saw that for a while we were transformed, no longer delegates of different locals but “Brothers of ONE” union collectively celebrating our unity and Victory over EMANY’s ruthless attack that we all saw as an attack on the IUCE as a whole. I would also like to thank Local Ones Delegates and alternates for their expertise and friendship given to the delegates of local 23

Fraternally,

Brother Tom Jodry

Brothers and Sisters:

I would like to thank you all for allowing me the chance to go to the convention this past week. I can tell you that all the Brothers you sent out there worked very hard and long hours on your behalf. We got more of our resolutions passed then not. Yes we all would have liked to see the retirement age go down or the hours per year go down but the trustees of the plain said it could not be done. Hopefully in five years there will be more money where these numbers can go down.

Our working relation with many of the other Locals has improved. Yes Brother Hernandez is no longer a VP. There may have been a few reasons as to why that happened but don't believe everything you hear. He, as the rest of us were out there work for what we felt was in the best interest of Local 1. Some people may not of like that and that is why I feel he lost.

The last time we did not have someone as a VP was 10 years ago, for 2 years, when Brother Green lost an election. Also, after he was removed from office up until Brother Hernandez was appointed last year.

Brothers and Sisters,

The 29th IUEC Convention is now closed and the Local One Delegation is on its way home.  There were highs and lows but overall it was a very successful week.  The entire Delegation is very proud to represent Local One members and families.  We worked hard and we thank you for the opportunity to be able to bring home better working conditions and benefits.

I look forward to giving a full report upon our return.

Stay Interested, Involved and Informed

the pipe band had one our proudest and best weekends ever!!!

we travelled south on sat and took a 1st place prize at the virginia scottish games and came back to take second place on sun at the nassau county contest!

these two contests, as well as the rest of the season pushed in into 1st place in our division which covers the whole east coast from florida to maine and out to the ohio valley!!(100+ bands)

Weve worked very hard and are all proud to be wearing the local one name on our uniform!!!!

we are looking to expand our membership, if anyone is interested contact me or bill madden.  you don't need any experience at all, lessons are free, we have fun and its a great way to be involved!

you can email me, address is on the home page of the pipe band website http://iuecpipeband.com  we are trying our best to keep the membership of the band all local one members!!!

I just wanted to thank Dennis Steele and the rest of the Local 1 pipe and drum band for a GREAT weekend. The band competed in Alexandria, VA and the Nassau County Feis and took first and second place in these competitions. I'm very proud to be affiliated with such a great bunch of men and women.

With these recent victories the band is now in first place in the EUSPBA.  Looking foward to the challenges of Grade 4 competition.  Mike Capozzi

Remember this quote? " Losing is not an option! "

well guess what, being a member of a secure progressive labor union is not an option for the members of Local One at this time and that my friend  is heartbreaking.

Morning brothers and sisters,

I am very excited about the upcoming 29th international convention , we are bringing 363 resolutions to the table! We need to stay involved so the people we elect to represent ALL of us so they can be  as educated and informed as possible.

WE ALL NEED TO CHECK AND CHALLENGE EACH OTHER for paid to date UNION CARDS !!! Whether its someone  you work with everyday or someone who you see once in a while!

WE are all responsible for our own safety ! We all need to look out for one another on the job! I just received a letter ( I work for Schindler) from Schindler Elevator Corporation . the topic was Company PRIORITY No. 1 : SAFETY. I appreciate the companies efforts to provide us all with a safe working environment!!

The problem with working safe, Is alot of us work alone, so its up to US to work safe, we are all responsible for what we do when we put our Safety shoes on everyday. Lets  incorporate these safety habits at home as well as at work!!!

I am so grateful to work in a safe workplace. No company wants any of us to work unsafe, but ITS UP TO US to enforce and participate in SAFE WORK PRACTICES . Work safe , work smart!

As always I remain an educated, involved and truly proud member of Local 1 IUEC since 1982. I refuse to look back, lets look forward to making Local 1 and all the International unions across the United States and Canada " SAFE WORKPLACES" .

Its all about being EDUCATED, its all about our ongoing commitments to make difference.

WORK SAFE, CHECK & CHALLENGE EACH other for Paid union cards .

              Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link
