with all due respect to all members, I've been searching for quite some time for some information as to who to speak and how to go about taking the first steps in becoming a member of this great brotherhood. I've always admired the work and dedication you have provided for this country and for each other  and hopefully I'll be able to do the same some day.

I've done everything from carpentry, electrical and running scaffolding jobs throughout the city.

If anyone would be so kind as to provide me with the smallest of information I'll be in debt to you.

Once again i apologize and thank you at the same time for taking the time to read this.

Stay strong and God Bless!

Brothers and Sisters...I would like to thank all of my Local 1 brothers and sisters who donated to a collection on my behalf at the March meeting.  I recently underwent knee replacement surgery which in all likelihood will prevent me from working in the trade I truly love.  The generous contributions of the Local 1 members brought tears to the eyes of my wife and I and we cannot find the words that truly express our gratitude.  Things like this are what Brotherhood is all about, and I will always be proud to say that I am a member of one of the greatest unions, with the greatest membership, in this great land of ours.

I would especially like to thank Brothers Kevin Keith for setting it up, Tom Sullivan,  Randy Kitcart, my old buddy Bill "Chief" Kolln, and the board of Local 1.

Thank you, again, and may God bless you all.....

Worker Dies After Falling Down Elevator Shaft

POSTED: 11:55 am EDT April 4, 2006
UPDATED: 5:48 pm EDT April 4, 2006

An elevator worker fell about 50 feet down an elevator shaft at a construction site in downtown Orlando on Tuesday morning.

It happened at the federal courthouse expansion site at 31 North Division St., WESH 2 News reported.

The worker was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center in "extremely critical condition." Shortly after the ambulance got him to the hospital, police announced that Jon Murphy, 36, had died.

The worker was standing on top of an existing elevator car, which was being installed, when he fell. He was not wearing a harness and he fell straight to the ground, according to Sgt. Rich Ring, of the Orlando Police Department.

"The car was kind of mid-floor, and as he tried to climb out of the car, it appears that he slipped and fell into the shaft," Ring said.

When rescuers arrived, the worker was lying in a hole 6 feet below ground level, which made the rescue difficult.

"They took a ladder off of a firetruck, stuck it in the hole, crawled down, took him and put him on a backboard and (a basket) and actually had to bench press him up over the side," said Greg Hoggatt, Orlando's assistant fire chief.

Investigators said this was an accident and they will report it to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. It will be up to that agency whether proper safety procedures were followed.

Messages left with the company working on the elevators were not returned.

On the way to work a few days ago, I heard a news story about a worker whose Loose clothing got caught in a wire bailing machine, I don't have to tell you how it ended.               When I leave my Wife and Daughters each morning, that is my warning to work safe, I want to come home to them.

There is no reason for an accident like this to happen, loose clothing, keys and drop keys hanging off belts, cell phones, nextels, we are all guilty. When you work, put all your stuff in your tool bag, don't contribute to the making of an accident.

Rings, jewelry, bracelets also have no place near electric and machinery. I know that we are all proud and like to advertise that we are members of LOCAL #1, we all have a hard hat with a nice sticker on it, but it does not belong on the back deck of your car baking in the sun where it's hardness can be weakened by sun light. Read the label on the inside of it.

And on a final note, when I drive, my nextel can whistle Dixie, when I stop, thats when I will answer, no call is worth an accident, we all have had a few close calls I am sure. We have a obligation to watch over each other.

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING.

Dear Brothers and sisters,

Having just finished reading the Elevator Constructor April , 2006, from our general president Dana Brigham & assistant  James H. Chapman Jr. , One message came through STRONG, SAFETY ! SAFETY ! SAFETY.The Iuec has lost 3 of our own members since January 2006 due to fatal job site accidents. I have always felt extremely strong regarding working safe and smart. Regardless of who is pushing you , Regardless of what your next job is? PLEASE focus on 1 thing at atime so you can go home to YOUR FAMILY!

Your safety is your responsibility, the companies and union provide us the necessary means and access to work safe and be prepared. BUT WE ARE in control of working safe! I personally believe people are GOOD, I don't believe anyone wants anyone to get hurt or even worse killed. Its all about EDUCATION, be smart , be concerned and always pay attention not only to yourself but to those working with you and around you! When Its comes to safety and many other aspects of LIFE, IF IT IS TO BE, ITS UP TO ME!!! Your responsible for filling your shoes everyday , as a union member, a parent, a brother and sister or a spouse.

Regarding any safety equipment distributed by any companies?

1.Begrateful! We are all fortunate to work in an industry with very high work standards

     2. Use it or lose it! what you might lose can be your health or even worse your life)

     3. Always Lock Out / Tag Out ......every member should have their own lock and a group lock.

      4. Always work safe and work smart.

To all of our experienced members in the trade, reach out to other newer members!!! Show them , practice what you preach.

     We all have priorities

We all have families and friends.

STOP being "selfish", don't every think you are above it ( it will never happen to me).

You can never be agood Dad, Mom, sister, brother or spouse or friend to anyone If you don't make it home after work.

***Don't ever be afraid or uncomfortable to challenge or question the "unsafe" work practices of any member, It is our obligation to that member and his/her family.

I will always remain an educated , involved and concerned member of Local 1 IUEC

       Always work safe and smart.

       Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link

Dear Brothers and sisters,

The new rates are effective as of March 17th, 2006. Its bittersweet that we are getting an increase exactly one year since EMANY locked us out. Remain involved, remain educated interested and stay united. We must continue to challenge other members for their PAID up union card, we must ALWAYS  work safe, work smart . Most of all we need to look after one another at work. Be a brother to a brother. Never forget what happened last March 17th, most of all be prepared for YOUR future. It was very uplifting to see  brother Mark Versace write on this page regarding his ongoing recovery, my thoughts and prayers are with Mark and his family. I also wanted to let everyone know, how saddened I was to hear of the passing of brother of Mike Nolan. I met Mike a few times over the years, he was an extremely dedicated family  man and union brother. May he rest in peace.

Most of all brothers and sisters please make a choice to make a positive difference, try to focus on what you have ( not what you don't have). Continue to fight for WHAT WE DESERVE, protect what is ours. and lets thrive to make Local 1 IUEC an even better UNION for the future of all its members and families.

I  remain educated, involved , interested and concerned for the well being of all IUEC members.

       IN SOLIDARITY Brother Brian Link

its been over 1 year since we were locked out, what are you willing to do to secure and protect our work for a better future?

I would like to extend my heartfelt graditude to all my Union Brothers and Sisters for your generosity during this difficult time. All of your prayers, phone calls and supportboth financial and emotional was the best medicine Icould have ever received. My 7 week stay in the hospital consisted of 2 back surgeries and intense rehabilitation. Coming home was a combination of relief and apprehension so many things have changed. Things that I took for granted are now done with great difficulty- but they get done. I am going to rehab 3 times a week and I am happy to say Iam making some progress. I hope that I will be able to walk into a Union meeting and thank you all in person. Thanks again Mark

Brothers & Sisters,  Thank you from my family and I for all of the flowers, mass cards and condolence cards. A special thanks to those brothers who drove a long way to pay their respects. You know who you are, I was deeply touched and your kindness will not be forgotten. My mother passed on Feb.20,2006 after a long struggle with alzheimer's disease. Her name was Margaret, wife of the late colonel William J. Bennet. Mother of 5, Bill, Ian, Richie,Nancy and Barbara. Grandmother of Billy,Ian and Griffin, Richie and Chris. Her friends number in the thousands, and they came from across the world to pay their respects. Happy St Patty's Day to all.

Joseph Sergio, Good suggestion, I thought of mail in, or email/ online voting in the past, but it does not give you the opportunity of meeting the brother/sister running for a position in person.  It is good to get out and be heard and seen by your fellow membership.

Dear Brothers and sisters,

Its almost midnight on March 16th, exactly one year ago Emany locked out all their Valuable Employees. Regardless of whether you were for or against the new contract, WE ALL need to move forward. WE ALL NEED TO BE BETTER PREPARED , BETTER EDUCATED AND MORE INVOLVED AND INTERESTED NOT only in the future of Local 1, but we all need to be more involved and educated in OUR families, OUR communities.and our commitment to our choice of faith. Many lessons are to be learned in our daily challenges, but please be honest with yourself and your families. ARE YOU BETTER PREPARED today then you were on March 17th, 2005???? Regardless of who are elected officials are, I WILL ALWAYS REMAIN DEDICATED , EDUCATED and totally committed to the future of Local 1 IUEC . Most of all I hope this post finds everyone doing well, and please wake up and make a decision to make a difference .

Regarding my nomination to the international convention, I will always be proud , involved and interested . I wish everyone good luck, but most of all PLEASE VOTE , please get involved . Don't do It for me , DO it for YOURSELF. You will get everything you want in life if you just help others get what they want.

Happy Saint Patricks Day to all , and for everyone at the union meeting tonight, our Local 1 pipe and drum band  sounded GREAT, hats off to all their hard work and commitment.

Please think about what happened 1 year ago today, and what u have done. Most of all be a good person at work, at home and in your community.

Brothers and Sisters,

I am very happy to hear about the additional voting location in Perth Amboy. We who live and work in New Jersey have been asking for this for years. I think it's great that our suggestions are considered  and acted upon when reasonable. I have been a proud union member for 23 years and have never seen a group of people in Union office so dedicated to a local and it's membership.

Thanks to all involved, Dan Donlin
