Hi everyone.  Hope this posting is finding everyone doing well.  I cannot believe that just about 4 months have passed since all of the brothers and sisters of the EMANY companies have returned to work.  It seems as though it has gone by alot faster then the almost 4 months of everyone being locked out.  I just wanted to wish everyone (a little late...lol) welcome to the fall season.  Unfortunately the cold weather will be upon us soon .  Take care for now and work safe.

Hello brothers and sisters. During mass today, Father Ed spoke about Stewardship. It is our responsiblity as stewards to be aware of these gifts including our time, talents and money and pocessions. As responsible stewards , we need simply to look at our own hands-the hands that reach out to others, to assist and help and continue to share our resources.

I am sure most of you are wondering why am I talking about this on a UNION website? well Its simple , to give to others is a great feeling. To be part of something, to be involved is a great feeling. We as members of Local 1 have elected our officers, our stewards and many others who donate so much of their valuable time to make this Local a better place to work and learn our trade. Life in general is full of givers and takers, they say 20% of the people to 80% of the work? If this is true I hope you choose to be involved , be part of the solution , not the problem.

I ask you also when you see your Steward and /or an elected officer and you believe they are doing a good job? Please let them know how much you appreciate his/her time and effort. Most of all dont sit idle and be a negative impact on your union, your family, your community. I am very proud of my actions, I am involved and I am extremely proud of our leadership! STEWARDSHIP is not a position, It's away of Life!

My thoughts and prayers are with Bill Madden and his family in this time of mourning, may God Bless Bill and his family thru this difficult time.

 Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link

After reading through the website that brother Tom Moore posted regarding Elevator and Escalator accidents and deaths. I could only keep thinking of one thing HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO BE LICENSED AND JUST AS IMPORTANT TO GET THIS ELEVATOR SAFETY BILL SIGNED INTO LEGISLATION. Please read this websiste , make a decision to get involved write an educated email to the National Occupational Safety . After all the riding public should always be riding the most safe, inspected escalators and elevators . Safety first, after all If we did have the elevator safety bill? Would the big 3 from EMANY have been able to TRY to perform our jobs legally during the lockout? Just a question , continue to work safe , perform your trade with pride and take some of your VALUABLE time and spend it with your families and friends . Life is too short, If your # is called ? I pray that you were doing what you actually wanted to be doing? Most of make a choice to make a difference.

I feel very strongly that Local 1 needs to step up the pace to get the elevator safety bill not only introduced but passed , enjoy the weekend and stay involved. Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link LOCAL 1 WILL PREVAIL

Dear Brothers & Sisters:

Click on the above link and read about the very important issue of Safety. With this up coming boom comes a demand by the bosses to hurry it up and get it done. So work safe and teach the new kid on the block how to work safe.

Take care of each other!

I was very glad to read some big work breaking soon asper brother Tom Moores post. I was also glad  to get an email from jobs with justice yesterday, regarding the decision to provide healthcare in NYC to all grocery stores. On Tuesday the NYC Council overrode Mayor Bloombergs veto to pass the NYC healthcare security act. For more information regarding this bill please go to http://www.NYChealthcaresecurity.org/.

Also I can't stress how IMPORTANT it is to get the Local 1 Defense Fund started ASAP. Many members have some extremely valid concerns and questions regarding how will this fund be collected? THE MAJOR concern still remains that any money collected for the defense fund will go directly to the IUEC members who would be affected by a lockout, strike or work stoppage. I would really like to reach out to all these members who might have some concerns to please bring your concerns to your Business Agent, or more importantly to our next union meeting and address the officers and the membership. Please don't sit idle , and not get involved. Their are many valid concerns, from many extremely educated members. I would really like to see them up at the microphone?

I will continue to move forward regarding our contract, I will continue to be educated, dedicated and will always protect our work and assist any members of this local to be the best union. We must continue to stay involved. We must start by taking responsibilty for ourselves, we must stop complaining , we must continue to work by our contract. Most of all ALWAYS WORK SAFE, ALWAYS DO WHAT IS RIGHT, and never forget what that paid union card in your wallet and what is represents. BE PROUD TO BE UNION . Most of all make your family proud of what you stand for!!!! Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link

Hello brothers and sisters, hopefully everyone is doing well? Regarding many questions regarding contract? Its unbelievable how many people vote for something that they don't understand? As far as a PAC fund or Strike fund being started, I feel very strongly that If the membership is informed of where the money will be allocated? Then we have a good chance establishing both. I also feel strongly that we all as individuals need to put away some money. I was just wondering ? Most of us who were locked out, that have been working since June 28th, have you put anything aside on a weekly basis? We need to be MORE involved in our union then ever before! We all need to take care of and look after one MORE then ever. Most of all do your job and no one elses, protect your work . Pull your union card out of your wallet with pride and challenge any other member of local 1 (or other trades) , most of all work safely so you can go  home after work and enjoy the most valuable posession we all have , OUR FAMILY! I will continue to move forward and protect LOCAL 1 members and our contract.

I am extremely grateful for everything I have , my health a great family and many many brothers and sisters at work . I continue to pray for Brother Gary Haynes for a full recovery. Please continue to make achoice to be INVOLVED AND CONCERNED . Please extend your hand and some time for someone who is less fortunate then yourself. This world is full of good caring people , make a choice to be one of them. Do your trade with pride, work safe and work union . Our union is only as STRONG as ALL its members!

 Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link

I was wondering if anyone knows how many of the New Jersey brothers and sisters there are that have still not recieved thier full unemployement benefits from past company lockout.  I have been to the office of Shapiro & Mets, and am on my second appeal of trying to get what others have already recieved.  There seems to be a few of us that all have the same story, yet we have been denied by the appeals offices of unemployment.  Does anyone out there have any information they could add as to how we can get what is owed to us?  I would like to hear from those who are still fighting the fight with no luck.  I think we need to form some kind of group and present our facts to someone in NJ Dept. of Labor.  I know I have stated the same facts as others of why I stopped calling in my claims, yet others recieved there full amount owed from them, and we have not!  Doesn't seem fair, so I ask our brothers and sisters if they can help out in anyway.

Brothers and Sisters,

Hope everyone is doing well.  In regards to Brother McCourts post, it is very important understand our contract.  There are a lot of rumors going around, so know the facts.  If there is something you are unsure of, discuss it with another brother, sister, shop steward of your BA.  You know, its only been three and a half months that we've been back, and already the same old talk, mostly about overtime.  Its WAY too soon to FORGET!  If you need the money, work it, but there  probably is a brother or sister who needs it more than you.  So lets digest our contract, take care of each other, work smart and SAFE.

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Local One will be holding a Retiree Seminar on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at the Hilton Hotel, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, NYC. We will begin the Seminar at 5:30 pm.  By now you should have received a postcard detailing the Seminar and asking you to return the postcard if you plan on attending. Please do so as soon as possible so we can give an accurate headcount and coordinate with the Hilton Hotel. We will have representatives from our Pension, Annuity and 401(k) Funds on hand to explain the retirement process and educate us on how the funds operate. This Seminar is not just for people approaching retirement but for all members who would like to learn more about our different funds. Please make every effort to attend. I hope to see you there.

In Solidarity,
