card number 1613 Comments: Brothers & Sisters,
I am sorry to inform you, John Mullen, past Executive Board member passed away on October 6, 2005. Presently there are no arrangements but a memorial service will be scheduled for the end of the month. Details will be posted when they become available.
card number Local 1 Iuec card #1347 Comments: I would just like to make a comment how strongly I feel regarding the 2 posts by brother Ray Hernandez and Fred McCourt. I was really glad to see both brothers utilizing the Local 1 webpage to get this important information out to as many members as possible. Please do yourself and your union a big favor! If you happen to read important information regarding our contract. Please print It out, bring it to your jobsite and share this info. Not everyone is on the computer or even has one? So stay involved , help your fellow members out! On a personal note I would like to commend both brother Ray Hernandez & brother Fred Mccourt for keeping all of us INFORMED. This website is a very vital tool which kept us connected during the lockout, please continue to utilize any means of communication to help one another out. Also continue to challenge and check UNION cards!!! PLEASE CALL IN YOUR JOBS!!! If you see a new hole in the ground, call the HALL and see who is doing OUR work! Make achoice to stay involved. Also If you read the elevator constructor Local 1 article the three members interviewed from Local 1, their message was loud and clear . BE Prepared, save your money and have a gameplan. If you have any helpful info share it with your fellow brothers and sisters . Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link card #1347
card number 14 Comments: Brothers and Sisters, You must read your contract from start to finish. I have been on jobs all week and our own people really do not know all of the new rules. Just because a Super tells you that you can bring material on an outside hoist does not mean it is correct. If you are on a mod job and the super has assigned a 3 man mod team please read the contract and see what it said. If you have any questions please contact your Agents. On most mod job if the square footage in under 400,000 square feet, most likely there will not be a Local One operator on that job site, so then you would not be able to hoist any of our material on the hoist unless the builder hired a Local One operator. If there is no Local One operator you must hoist everything the old fashion WAY!!! Last but not least, if a super harasses anyone for calling the hall please let the Agents know right away. Take Care, Freddie NEVER FORGET!!!!!!!!
card number 530 Comments: Dear Brothers and Sisters: No Local One member is to bring any material on any hoist with an engineer. Fraternally, Raymond Hernandez President-Business Manager
card number 7937 Comments: I would like to thank everyone for their support in making the GARY HAYNES OUTING a SUCCESS. We raised over $10,000 for Gary and Sissy [well over what I thought] It goes to show you how everyone working together can accomplish a goal. Thank you again
card number 1347 Comments: Hats off to NEIEP director Jim Higgins. I just read the LIFT magazine ( Summer 2005 issue #2 ) cover to cover it was incredible. What I realized is the I.U.E.C. is full of many intelligent, hard working devoted members. LIFT magazine is comprised of many technical articles as well as a well written article by John O' Donell titled " Elevator Education Evolution". The many people of NEIEP are the "TYPE" of people that make the I.U.E.C. GREAT!! Please choose to be PRO-ACTIVE like the many contributors in NEIEP. It makes me extremely proud to be associated with the I.U.E.C. & N.E.I.E.P. I would like to personally commend two Local 1 brothers who were mentioned in "Lift" Magazine. Brother Mike Capozzi ( Local 1) worked to develop NEIEP,s circuit tracing lab in 1993. In 1998, brother Mike Poshkus (Local 1) designed & built a door lab incorporating the popular G.A.L. door operator. WHY RECOGNIZE OTHERS? Because they deserve to be recognized. You see all these people CHOSE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! The apparent high level of knowledge of these members was quite a treat to read, absorb , learn and enjoy. My post is one to convey one thought, THIS WORLD IS FULL OF GREAT PEOPLE, many right here in the IUEC & quite a few working alongside you in Local 1. Thank you to all of you that continue to stay involved !!! Respectfully submitted an extremely proud member of Local 1 IUEC Brother Brian Link card #1347.......... Looking forward to the Elevator Constructor "October" issue came in mail today .....
card number 688 Comments: The only thing good about being home is that I get to read all the magazines I get but never had time to read. For years my co-workers busted my chops about wearing rubber gloves while working, enclosed is an article I found in the latest edition of Time Magazine. The Risk Of Being A Grease Monkey A Swedish study found that men working around mineral oils such as thoses found in asphalt or hydraulic or motor oils may increase their risk of getting rheumatoid arthritis by 30%. Exposure to the lubricants may trigger inflammatory processes that swell joint linings.
card number 1347 Comments: Thanks Brother Fred Mccourt for the great news regarding Gary Haynes Jr. I am so glad all went well. Please continue to pray for Gary and his full recovery. On another note, today in Suffolk County New York, they passed a piece of legislation Called the Health Security Act. The vote was 17 for and 1 against. This will actually enforce Box Stores Like Walmart, " non-union" companies to provide minimum Health care to all their employees. As we are all aware these giant stores continue to make Billions, that is BILLIONS with a capital B. We hope that these wins in New York will aid in advancing efforts underway in other states and pave the way for new legislation around the country. PS. For more information on the Health Care Security Act, go to Http://www.nychealthcaresecurity.org/
Most importantly stay involved and continue to work safe , work union and look after one another. Respectfully Submitted Brother Brian Link
card number 996 Comments: I would like to thank everyone that played, donated and gathered sponsors regarding the Gary Haynes Golf Outing. In my opinion the event was a huge success.
I would also like to thank the local for their generous donation as well as the Pipe Band for making the trip to play. I could go on forever and never be able to thank each and every person that helped make this a very special day for Gary and Sissy. All I can say is that Gary had a wonderful time and did not wish to leave.
I will say I wish I had a chance to talk to Freddy more yet he had to duck out after a few holes for another obligation. I trust you did not get a sunburn!..lol
Visit the site we set up for this event to view some photos that will be up within the next few days!
THANKS AGAIN TO ALL, Bill Dutra http://www.garyhaynes.kingscastle.us

The doctors put the part of the skull back into his head that was damaged during the accident. He will be back into his rehab center in a couple of days. Keep up the prayers for Gary and his family because they seem to have worked GREAT!!!

card number Local 1 IUEC 1347 Comments: Good morning brothers and sisters today is Saturday September 24th. Today is the Gary Haynes golf benefit outing . I sit here watching the news, reading the paper rearding the Hurricane Rita situation. I sit here and realize how lucky I am, I realize no matter what happens to you In life YOU MUST be prepared! While I was passing around the 50/50 box at the union meeting , I realized there are many people who are in NEED of our help. Some are due to illness, some are just in need of help. Although we can all just do what we can and are WILLING TO DO! I must say and I am extremely proud to say not one person complained about helping Gary out. So what am I trying to say? I am very fortunate to work with a very dedicated couple brothers ( I wont mention their names). But at Schindler Long Island we have a ongoing collection for family deaths, when I worked for Otis they had a "Sunshine Fund". Basically It is to assist brothers and sisters who have a family death or a " challenge" facing them and their family. You see we all need to TAKE CARE OF ONE ANOTHER. If anyone Is interested In starting a program to take care of each other ? Give me an email or call me, I would be more then glad to give you some ideas. Its very important that It is done by at least 2 or 3 brothers or sisters, just like everything else in Life you CANNOT rely on 1 Person! Please let it be known , THIS SHOULD NEVER BE A POPULARITY CONTEST!!!!, just be a brother to a brother. I am very grateful for all the people who gave to the Gary Haynes collection, and please don't get me wrong. But it was pointed out to me by many other brothers, their are many others in NEED. Wouldn't it be nice If WE ALL helped out? Wouldn't It be nice If we all got invoved? Wouldn't It be nice If we really took care of one another? Wouldn't It be nice If we were there for each other? I KNOW ALOT OF PEOPLE THINK I WRITE Too Much, I know I write alot, I am involved , I care, how about this? Local 1 has approx 3000 members? How about 1500 members at the next meeting? THAT WOULD BE NICE! Make a choice, get involved like Ray Hernandez said at the meeting . This is not my union, this is OUR union! If anyone has any ideas to Boost our attendance at our meetings? We always have a decent showing , but I haven't seen 1500 yet, that would be nice. Have a great weekend !!! I saw a great bumper sticker It said somthing like ........Thank You to Labor Organizations, The folks who brought you the weekend. Im sorry this post was very long , but I have alot to say. Respectfully submitted Brother Brian LInk card # 1347
card number 1347 Comments: Our first union meeting tonight I thought went well. Alot of questions were adressed. Thanks to all the members who donated torwards 50/50 raffle for Gary Haynes ( to be drawn at Golf Outing Saturday). Please when you go to work never forget about that Union card in your pocket! Never forget what it means take pride in your work. Please WORK SAFE! Too many fatalities, work safe and take your time and do it right. Looking forward to Gary Haynes golf outing on Saturday! WORK UNION! DO YOUR JOB ! PROTECT YOUR WORK! ALWAYS WORK SAFE AND PLEASE PLEASE GET MORE INVOLVED . Nice turnout at meeting but WE COULD ALL DO BETTER> Why not be available for meetings and union functions as much as some of us are for OVERTIME? Dont forget why you have the job, the skills to perform your job and THE SUPPORT ..... YOUR UNION ! Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link
card number 1347 Comments: What an inspiration It was to see injured brother Gary Haynes Jr. putting a post on website! This brother is a fighter, he is truly amazing. He continues to fight the fight. My thoughts and prayers are with Gary and his family . Please don't look the other way when people less fortunate then you and I need our help. Tommorrow is Thursday September 22nd, the first day of fall. Lets make tommorrow a good day. For those of you "involved and interested brothers and sisters". Do yourself and Local 1 a big favor, reach out to someone who normally doesn't attend meetings? Invite them , drive them , show them how good It feels to be involved! Most of all live your lives with energy. Stay involved and make achoice to make adifference. PLEASE bring all your questions and concerns to the meeting. As the time of this post Local 125a and Local 102 of Canada are still on strike. Could you imagine being on strike since Febuary 2005? Could you imagine being out of work for approximately 8 months? Please rember these less fortunate members then you and I . Pleae remmber these brothers and sisters and help them out. All the info is on the Internationals wegpage @ www.iuec.org . If you were locked out ? Did you remember how great It felt when someone just helped you out? You will get everything you want in life if you just reach out and help some less fortunate people get what they want. As for me I will continue to move forward and do as much as I can everyday to make Local 1 and my family , community a better place to work, live and enjoy. Thanks for your time Brother Brian Link .........still an extremely proud and involved member of Local 1 IUEC
card number 946 Comments: to local 1 members, I would just like to thank everyone for their generous donations and support to myself and my family. thanks again, your brother Gary Haynes Jr. See u all on Saturday!!!!
card number 1347 Comments: I just was at church at a parents meeting for catechists. The coordinator asked If anyone had any questions of God? One parent wanted to know why does God challenge us so much? I feel very strongly that God challenges us in different ways, I believe its done to make us better people. I feel strongly that this lockout we had to endure has made US stronger. I believe we need to be more "IN TOUCH" with what really matters. OUR families health, having food on the table and living in the United States. We have many opportunities in front of us, I myself and my family have had our share of tragedy. I am sure most people have It tests our souls and make us even stronger . To the family and friends of departed retired brother Ed Gardner, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Please celebrate his life, may he rest in peace. It was really pleasant surprise when I read the front page of Newsday this morning and saw how WE THE PEOPLE HAVE DONATED A RECORD AMOUNT OF MONEY TOWARDS KATRINA RELIEF. We should never rely on the government, it was agreat feeling on a small scale that I helped out, of course we could all do more. Lets not go to bed at night, and not have done NOTHING! I had a great weekend with my family and I am grateful to be a part of Local 1 IUEC. I am also grateful to work alongside some of the finest people I have known. Life Is full of challenges , day by day. Please choose to be part of the solution and not the problem! Last but not least, THANK YOU for all the donations and effort put forth torwards Gary Haynes Golf Benefit. Brothers Bill Dutra and Tom Slattery have put alot of time and effort torwards this event, I have never met either brother, but I know that they chose to MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I am grateful to be surrounded by a bunch of givers , not takers. God Bless Em ALL Thanks for reading, see all the concerned and involved brothers and sisters at the meeting, Thursday Sept 22nd. Its never too late to make a donation and just get involved Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link

Greetings for the recovery room brothers and sisters, my body failed me again, last Oct. it was prostate cancer, now it is a Total Hip Replacement. Sept. 7 was the big day, I went to the Hospital for Special Surgery for a Mod. Job. new titaniun leg bone and a ceramic hip. The best place in the world to get it done, and they take our plan. Maybe I am getting older, the doctor looked like 18 years old, maybe he was an apprentance, but he was the number 2 guy there. At 51 years old they say these replacements last 20-25 years, we will see who lasts longer, me or the hip.Have been home for 1&1/2 weeks, can't drive for 6 weeks min. 4&1/2 to go can't wait to get back to work. Once again I would like to stress to all, listen to your body, we have a great medical plan, take the time and use it. Work Safe.
