card number 996 Comments: While we did indeed need as many checks as possible by today 9/14/05. It is never too late to get involved! We needed to provide the club with a minimum number in order to finalize our deal and that will be done Thursday evening 9/15/05. Due to a low Golfer turnout we will not have the course all to ourselves and we have agreed to move from the large banquet room in order to accommodate a "Sweet Sixteen" party. With our concessions and the clubs willingness to work with us I am sure we will not be forced to cancel.
That being said I must say we have received a ton of sponsors/donations and still stand to raise a sizable amount for Gary & Sissy. I would like to Thank two groups in particular. First all the guy's from the TKE construction department who passed the hat and raised enough to be the title sponsor as well as the Local One Retirees-Long Island Chapter. These retired brothers raised a bunch in order to be a scoreboard sponsor.
Bottom line is it is never to late and we will accept donations and golfers/dinner patrons right up to tee/dinner time.

card number 1347 Comments: IRS raises mileage rate...Reflecting higher prices at gas pumps, agency ups amount taxpayers can deduct for their business use. In todays Newsday it read as follows. The surge in gasoline prices led the IRS on Friday to increase a mileage rate that many comanies use as a benchmark for reimbursing employees for the use of vehichles on the job. The unprecedented midyear raise in the rate pushed it up to 48.5 cents per mile from 40.5 cents. The higher rate applies to business -use driving between Sept 1st and the end of the year. Please check with your business agents regarding this change in the reimbursement. Please note the article was in Newsday Sept 10th , 2005 on page A23 OR FOR MORE INFO GO TO www.newsday.com Although experts feel the rate should be at 60 cents due to the increase from 1.77 per gallon to the national average on Friday of over $3, every little bit helps . Stay informed and stay involved Respectfully Submitted Brother Brian Link

card number 530 Comments: Memorandum
Date: September 9, 2005
To: Local One IUEC family
From: Raymond Hernandez – President/Business Manager
Subject: Gary Haynes Golf Outing – Sat., 09/24/05
Brothers Bill Dutra and Tom Slattery have set up a Golf Outing Fundraiser to financially assist Brother Gary Haynes and his fiancé, Sissy.
Local One IUEC sanctions this outing 100%. You do not need to be a golfer to come out and have a day of fun while at the same time help one of “our own”
We are used to assisting our fellow Brothers and Sisters and this is no exception. Please go to the website that has been set up. It is http://www.garyhaynes.kingscastle.us/Sponsors.htm. I would love to see a large turnout; however, if you can’t join us, you can follow the website’s directions for different sponsorship packages. Or, you can make a contribution to Gary and Sissy by sending your check, made payable to Gary Haynes. Mail to Gary Haynes, c/o William Dutra, 3279 Stony Street, Mohegan Lake, NY 10547.
We are blessed to have Gary recuperating and want to show both he and Sissy how much we care about them.

card number 1422 Comments: Happy Labor Day!!!
It's our holiday....enjoy.
card number 1347 Comments: Today is September 5th, 2005, today is Labor Day. Regardless of what your plans are for today , lets never forget who came before us in the labor movement ! Many have died , for our cause. I also would like to take a minute and thank brother Mike Duffy , who runs this website 24/7. He monitors , evaluates and most of all keep the line of communication open not only for members of this Local , but all locals throughout the IUEC. Thank you Brother Mike Duffy! I know personally just with my posts , he is a very busy person. Its people like Mike, and many others who continue to stay involved and do THEIR SHARE, that make this place we live in " A Better Place". At Church yesterday in Bluepoint , Long Island. Father Charles had one message, lets not let race divide us, he was specifically talking about the tragedy thats going on down south caused by Katrina. I was moved by not only his words but pictures I have seen. In todays newdsay a teenager who happens to be white was comforting a young black girl displaced by Katrina. You see we are all Gods children, and when someone needs help, or just a hand we should be people of compassion! So fire off a check to Katrina fund, or just get involved ! Donate some goods, volunteer at your local church, soup kitchen, red cross or any worthwhile cause. PLEASE dont ignore the challenges surrounding us. There are many peoplewho were in Katrinas path, who have NO HOME, NO JOB and most of all are losing hope, lets not let them down . Enjoy your Holiday Today, and make a choice to make a positive difference. Dont forget any donations for Gary Haynes outing must be in before Sept 14th ! Lets not only continue to pray for Gary , lets help him out ! Respectfully Submitted Brother Brian Link card #1347
card number 1899 Comments: My best friend lives in New Orleans. Luckily, his house was spared from the floods, now he just has to worry about looters. He is the cheif engineer of the Sheraton Hotel (1 million sq. ft.) and he says that they are in dire need of elevator men. Throughout the city, every elevator from the 2nd floor to the pit is flooded, every escalator under water. Local 16 does not have the manpower to handle this alone. I am trying to see if Otis is willing to send some of their men down for a few weeks to help out. Maybe the other large companies will, too. I am ready, willing, and able to help out our IUEC brothers, and our fellow Americans in their time of need. Danbo |
