card number 575 Comments: Dear brothers and sisters..
I just read the front page of the constructor. Unbeknown to me the September issue has been home a few days now… I found the words written in that short analytic prose inspiring to say the least. I don’t know who wrote it or when but When I think about what our Union means to me and my family.. I parallel it to a scripture that references Jesus as a caretaker and how his name is a strong tower, Under which those of us that are weary and in trouble run into and find solace and refuge. Well working under the protection that a union offers is only as effective as the vigilance, integrity and courage of it’s leaders and it’s members, without us and without a strong leader there is no union, without strong unions there is no country and no future. Strong men working with strong union leaders built this country…And in this beloved national holiday of ours I would like to encourage everyone to reflect upon the words written in that cover, march with pride in our parade if they can.. and most importantly bring their families… I’m posting the writing in the front cover.. for those who have not read it…and would like to print it and hang it somewhere where it can remind them daily who we are and what a Union is supposed to be. A union starts with us, is for us and cannot exist without us……… I would like to wish everyone a healthy and a safe Holiday… The Colon family
The Caretaker….
The Union is not for yourself but for your children. It does not rise to avenge the past but to claim the future. It is an expression not of dignity of its leaders but the Dignity of all. It was not called into being to celebrate the majesty of one person. It does not live to serve the self indulgence of another. It is not property but mission. Every decent moment in the history of man is the assertion of an affronted conscience. Anyone can belong to a union; but a union belongs to no one and least of all to anyone who is ashamed of where he or she came from and indifferent to those he or she left behind.. The union leader is not the owner of an institution; he or she is the caretaker of a tradition….

Lets never forget what LABOR DAY is all about!!!! Take a moment this Labor Day to remember the true meaning behind this most sacred Holiday. card number 1347 Comments: Thank you brother Terrence Carr for your post regarding Katrina Relief fund set up. To any members who read this website, please take down the info and spread the word at your office, your church and your union meetings and in the field with your fellow members. card number 11 Comments: Dear Brother's & Sister's: Attached is information regarding at relief effort for IUEC members affected by the recent Hurricane. Please help in getting out this information . So we would be able to assist our IUEC Brother's and Sister's and their families in their time of need. We are sure you have been watching the news and have seen the catastrophic affects of Hurricane Katrina. As you would guess, many of our members have been affected, to differing degrees, by Hurricane Katrina,. The affects vary from total loss to minimum damage. We have been in close touch with the Business Agents in the affected areas and will keep you updated as to when and where their temporary offices will be set up. The Post Office has suspended acceptance for any mail going to the affected areas since their facilities and the infrastructure has sustained extensive damage. In an effort to assist our members the IUEC is establishing a relief fund for our members affected by this devastating hurricane. We are asking our locals and members to assist their Brothers and Sisters affected by sending checks, in any amount they can afford, to: IUEC Katrina Relief Fund c/o IUEC 7154 Columbia Gateway Drive Columbia, MD 21046

card number Local 1 IUEC card #1347 Comments: I couldnt agree more with brother John Ruth of Local 8 of San Francisco. What a tragedy down in Louisiana and surrounding areas. How can anyone standby and do nothing??? I heard many Local 16 members were displaced, regardless of whether they lost their homes??? Where will they be working? I was speaking to a fellow brother today and he had some great ideas. He said what can we do? Woody , thanks for always making me proud to be a member of the same Local as I am fortunate to be a member of. He said how about All the locals Adopt a Member ??? ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. WE ARE ONLY AS STRONG AS OUR WEAKEST MEMBER.I would love to see some Locals employ some of these members in their area. I really feel we need to show how WE ARE FAMILY. I feel very strongly that helping out and reaching out to our brothers from the SOUTH , is not an option. I feel strongly that it is an obligation. We here at Local 1 approximately 1300 members were locked out for 3 1/2 months. We still had our health. We still had our families. We still had opportunities to help our families out?You know what was important?? OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO SUPPORTED US THRUOUT THE COUNTRY!!!!We will never ever forget!!! Please brothers and sisters lets show the rest of the country what It means to be of "UNION CLOTH". These brothers and sisters really need to know how we feel , lets support them . For anyone in nearby Locals (Location wise) why not take someone in? If anyone else has any ideas on thios subject or any others please CHIME in. Please take the time to not only email , or write your union reps, take the time and support those who right now are in great need of our support . DONT LOOK AWAY , Stop saying Its not your problem. Take some time and be passionate and be concerned about others less fortunate then you. If anyone reading this webpage , whats to make adifference . MAKE A CHOICE , GET INVOLVED . To our brothers and fellow Americans down south, May God Bless you all to have strength and believe that you will overcome this tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with these families . Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link
card number 86221 Comments: Excuse me for borrowing your site but the Local 1 site seems to be more popular than the Local 8 site. Local 16 New Orleans and probably 124 Mobile will have some members in bad trouble due to the storm and flood. Let's get behind them and lend what help we can. John Ruth Local 8
card number Local 1 IUEC card #1347 Comments: Looking foward to Labor Day Parade on Sept 10th. Looking forward to our first union meeting since vote in September coming up. I also would like for everyone to continue to pray and support for our injured Brother Gary Haynes. Much time and effort have been taken to set up the Gary Haynes Golf outing. REGARDLESS of whether you golf , send some money, maybe round up a collection at work to sponsor a hole??? After all Gary needs our help, HE IS OUR BROTHER! I will be attending and would love If anyone would contribute in ANY WAY! We need to continue to support and help those people less fortunate then us!! To all the people down south in Mississsippi and Loiusiana and surrounding areas who were hit by storm KATRINA, may God Bless you all with the strength to stand together and remain positive! WE have all had our own personal share of tragedy, but lets be GIVERS not takers, be passionate about those less fortunate then you. Please dont forget the 2 locals in Canada 102 and 125a who I believe are still out? You will get everyone out of life if you just reach out and extend your hand and heart to those who need you. Hopefully everone is doing well. Me personally I will continue to move forward . I will continue to be involved in my union , my family, my community and my faith. Once again I remain proud , educated, ( a few pounds heavier due to a cruise in Carribbean) .Thanks for reading and Please make a difference. Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link card #1347
card number 1137 Comments: Brothers and Sisters, My dad and my uncle had worked in the elevator business for the better part of their lives and I'm sure some "old timers" will remember them. My dad died a few years back and now I got some bad news about my Uncle, Emil Gurbisz (who'm I spoke to a little while ago). He is in the hospital in Florida with brain and liver cancer. They have given him only two weeks to two months more to live...please keep him in your prayers. Of course Jesus can cure Him if that is His will but more importantly my uncle has made Him his Lord and Savior this night. The hospital number for him is 1-386-586-2000 Room 2108 if you want to leave him a message. John 11:25-27 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?" She said to Him, "Yes, Lord; I have believed that You are the Christ, the Son of God, even He who comes into the world." God Bless <>< Carl Gurbisz
card number 2757 Comments: yeah, you oughta read pages 9 and 10,It ends with bend over.I dont really get the Gps thing.I guess they want to know when we stop for water or to take a piss.I have gps installed on my kids phones and its about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.Something is always interfering with good ole spud nick ,But this is want they want, To the people who do 9 million things above the norm I hope you know these companies do not care,Go above and beyond ,and earn yourself 10 minutes down time ,thats when they are going to nail you.ooh hold on My oldest just made me a drink, she is practicing for work.Oh my gosh Otis is gonna drug test me.....!Anytime baby. Sorry to disappoint but I'm just plain crazy. But if the companies had had more competent people in the office ,I think things would run smooth.I mean face it,who can you call if your stumped,Hi you have reached rem ,press one hundred ninety six for door failure. yikes,my daughter is definitely not a bartender.Ew.Anyway I was writing to tell you of a horror story but I got sidetracked.and drunk.just kidding. During the lockout,I decided to sell my house but the clock was ticking cause I was already behind on my mortgage so I basically called 1-800 bail me out.you know We buy houses quick cash.I didn't have money for a lawyer so I signed a bunch of papers by myself. Then each week I was told we were closing next week and the week after and so on.Finally I get a call from a investigator. He says He thinks I have been a victim of identity theft. It turns out that In that pile of papers was a form called a quit claim deed. That paper signs your house over to that person.elderly people would do it before they entered a nursing home. The person gets the title to the house but you are still stuck with the mortgage. Its a huge scam, the best of the best are doing it ,with refinances ,whatever. That is why a lawyer sits at closing and watches what you sign.So I signed my house away.I had to get a lawyer and litigate. My house was frozen,my neighbors were asked questions It was a nightmare. When I had to meet with the D.A the first time,I thought I killed someone while sleep walking, little did I know this was worse.I did get my deed back, many people don't. I got lucky that the county I lived in, caught it while being filed.I am broke and living in a studio with 3 kids and 2 dogs.(But I am just happy to be a valued employee)My house is rented out to help me recoup the loss and stay on track.I am sure many of you are much more smarter then me but I am telling all of you. This paper is called a quit claim,Beware of it.It is so common that legislation is in the works to ban it or force people to disclose it.And so I hope my mistake has helped you all and even if you are just joining a gym ,Have a lawyer look at the contract. And so ,now that I have given everyone something to discuss .I must go ,there is a tree down the block calling for my puppy dogs. Oh for the women who read this and are wondering where is the father?Doesn't he help?Well he's in the secret service and he's been on a covert operation..........for 12 YEARS!He is not allowed any contact with anyone for fear it could blow the operation.(I think they spy on Brewery's )we are just so blessed with all his work to save the earth,Lmao. Have a goodnight all.
card number 429 Comments: Dear Brothers and sisters, With all due respect,I am sorry to announce the passing of life as we know it now.Being an the Elevator Constructor since 1970 I save seen alot of sacrifices by members and their families. For a majority of that time we were led to believe that the union had the upper hand in any negotiations, but sorry to say this contract was voted in without any knowledge of the fine print of the GPS,among other fine print. The way it appears, we are going to be monitored and tracked and hung by most of the same #$% %$#! that took our jobs for 4 months!Whats wrong with this picture?I suggest any left over donations from our generous locals from across the country, after our dead beat members in Local one who were employed during the lockout pay their share, should be forwarded to our brothers and sisters in Canada. I also say that there should be an international strike/lockout fund set up by the international for the inevitable future of this industry.
Good Luck,Work safe and Keep the faith.

card number Retired Comments: On August 21, 2005 I attended the Hunter Mt Celtic Festival, I was always proud to be a member of Local #1 - On this day wearing my Local 1 t-shirt & watching about a thousand Pipers & Drummers come marching over the mountain (a site to see & hear) the man standing next to me said Oh! look sir there is your band . And right he was, my chest came out a mile I could not have been more proud, our Piper Band brothers were #1 in my book. These guys did an excellent job, we must all be proud of them. I hope next year all you brothers & sisters and also the retired members show up to see this fantastic event, it is an outstanding day for the whole family and that is regardless of race, creed or color. I had the honor of talking to 4 or 5 Brothers in the band which topped off a great day. Enclosed is a couple of pictures of Piper Sean Kennedy & myself.........
