"Take your hoisting and shove it up ......." Result:hoisting concessions ground floor to the 9th...etc" "Take your shift work and shove it up......." Result:flexible shift work between 6-9 etc. "Take your gps and shove it up....." Result:gps for emany.(and future b.s.with the other companies) Oh by the way my 3rd cousin in Alabama says he only got a 1% increase for picking up cow dong and that were crazy if we don't sign. "well thats better then any of what the other trades got" oh great....did we do better then the spacklers and the asphalt workers??? I believe that some are missing the point here.WE SHOULD BE DOING BETTER THEN THE OTHER TRADES!!! WE are local 1 i.u.e.c...LET ME SAY IT AGAIN....WE ARE ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTORS!! OH we got a $2250 signing bonus??...great!!!Are they going to give us 14 weeks back pay after they put us on the streets even though the union agreed to work without a contract?? By the way..something that hasn't been discussed....annuity package....a 75% helper for just one example has gone from $5.25 an hour to $3.93 an hour. Now that might not effect many, but if it effects any it should be a concern for us all.Its another give back! maybe now Otis will be able to make 1.6 billion Instead of a mere 1.5 billion. I remember not to long ago " one trade one union" I Could not agree more. Now it should be, "one trade, one contract. I realize that you cant stop progress, and to some degree we will have to deal with some form of gps....but when your day is done...leave it on the job, then maybe the next contract theyll want us to have it on all the time, who know maybe the contract after that we can all have chip inplants, save us from having to carry that heavy phone around..... I still believe in our negotiating commitee,I understand that its hard to deal with these people, that there only interest is $$$$. I also believe we that we can do better.See you at the meeting.
card number 7747 Comments: 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM When my kids ask " Where's Daddy?" they will be able to call Otis elevator (GPS)and they can track me for them. Thanks Otis and tell my 4 small children Daddy says Hello.
Stay Strong Brothers and Sisters this is our future.
card number 85045 Comments: Who's kidding who here??? The signing bonus, bribe, payoff or whatever you'd like to refer to it as is going to lessen the value of this contract as well as all future contracts .It's short term thinking instead of looking to the future. You can multiply this $2250 by the next 15 -20 years to figure out how much we're losing. It's also a way for emany to persuade a few member's vote and line their own greedy pockets in the coming years .That $2250 should be included in our base salary. And then if they want to give someone a bonus it should be the "valued employees" they locked out 14 weeks ago. You can't really complain about the 6's the last 3 years. This offer makes you aware of how carefully you have to read this contract. I enjoy having the Friday before a holiday off as much as anyone but this change benefits emany financially . .Let them ante up that money elsewhere. As far as Mod work , these companies lose the work elsewhere because of their own ridiculous prices that have nothing to do with the cost of union labor. It's all about the profit they have to meet or someone's ass is out the door.Instead of treating a loyal customer with a decent price on the Mod and then keeping the service contract they try to gouge the customer and lose the job.And then coming running back to Local 1 for a remedy. We've all seen this happen with buildings that want to keep us but can't. I don't like opening the door any more with these start times and I'm wondering why the contract reverts back to March 17th and costs the locked out members another 14 weeks salary out of this new 4 year deal. And don't get me started with this GPS.So read this contract very carefully before Sunday's vote
card number 1899 Comments: Recon today found (and photoed) two otis scabs at the Hilton Hotel on 6th ave. No safety equipment in sight. They had a super with them and just maybe he alerted the office (although stefan virzilay said he wasn't smart enough to think of it), because 45 minutes later, as I went into the Weston Hotel to use the ATM, and check for scabs, an otis super was waiting for me with hotel security (the scabs were there, but hiding). The super even took my picture (I was facing him so he didn't get my good side). I may have to halt recon until we see what happens with the vote, but I will probably just stay out of the Weston, they have threatened me with arrest if I return (even for work??). I feel this is a good contract and should be voted for. Then we can spend the next 4 years getting the Elevator Safety Bill passed and removing the local 3 and non-union threat. Danbo
card number 1137 Comments: First off...does Fuji and all the other independent companies fall under the ThyssenKrupp "no GPS" portion of the contract or the "Emany you got GPS" portion...the contract doesn't say? Can't imagine people begging to work for a GPS company..can you?
The 2,250 (in two installments) amounts to vacation pay that we should have got anyway if we were working...
What's to keep a worker from languishing in the abyss of unemloyment if companies can choose their "favorites" to work over more deserving and longer unemployed workers? page 4 (b)
How about overtime standby hours with no benefits... for straight time pay? page 59
Why would an Employer admit to using GPS to track somebody or "catch" somebody when they can just send a Super to the sight to "just happen to show up!!" No penalties if their wrong...grace periods rendered meaningless
Just as an aside...How come we never manage to aquire at least one sick day or personal day...jeez
One Union should have one contract...that's it. What happened to divided we beg?
Respectfully submitted
card number 1729 Comments: DOESN'T ANYBODY ELSE SEE THAT THIS CONTRACT WILL ALLOW ALL MOTOR ROOM EQUIPMENT TO BE BROUGHT UP ON THE OUTSIDE HOIST (EXCEPT FOR THE DUCT WORK), IN ADDITION TO THE STAGGING AREA LIFT.
AND THAT WE WILL BE USING A FORKLIFT TO UNLOAD THE TRUCKS.
NO DOUBT THE MONEY IS GREAT, BUT......

card number 93667 Comments: god bless you all and your family's! brothers and sisters stay strong and stand together, never let the emany people win, they are trying to divide your family, what ever your vote out come is remember,me and my family are proud of everyone in local #1,we will support you all alway's!!!! your brother local#10
card number 14 Comments: Brothers and Sisters, We have come to the point where we either ratify the contract or vote the contract down. If we ratify the contract we will go back to work on Monday. If we vote the contract down, your negotiating team will get back to the table to negotiate again. That simply. Ray had an obligation to bring back a contract to our members and that is what he did. Now the members have the right to vote yes or no. The American way!!! No matter how you feel, we must stick together and stop letting everyone on this web page know how we feel. We are not the only people reading this site. I ask for the second time, if you don't know what the f you are talking about please come to the meeting on Thursday and ask as many questions that you have. There is so much wrong info being put on the street that it is sad!! Semper Fi, Frederick McCourt
card number 14 Comments: I spoke to Gary's fiance (Sissy) today and Gary is still fighting hard. The swelling around his head area needs to go down some more before they know anymore. Please keep Gary and his family in your prayers. Take Care, Fred Mc Court
card number 8626 Comments: Labor standards office Phone # 1 914 997 9517 call to get info for what happens if we turn down the contract. (No I did not call yet my self) maybe they would like to hear the difference between lockout and strike
card number 1202 Comments: I think my intellect has just been compared to the inhabitants of Jurassic park. Not able to adapt? Adapt to what? A tracking device to monitor a persons location. What's wrong with the question," where are you?"Well the companies assumption is we're all liars and need something fool proof. I say, if its inevitable and you can't hold back technological intrusions then pay me! What's my privacy and the companies peace of mind worth. Fifty bucks a day.? Lets call it a toll. If you're going to treat me like an ez-pass, then you pay. Too much? Too ******* bad.
card number 1458 Comments: Hoisting Page 24-(pistons and cylinders and/or trusses may be hoisted and placed in their final locations) Why are we giving our hoisting work away? The crane will be doing the hoisting while members sit on the bench.
card number 754 Comments: Dear Brothers and Sisters,
First I would like to extend Mine and My family's prayers to Gary Haynes and all His Loved Ones.
" OUR CONTRACT " As the emotion calms down and rationality sets in, we are realizing that there have been 2 Contracts EMANY and OTIS, NOT JUST THAT, BUT EACH INDEPENDENT CAN CHOOSE TO NEGOTIATE THEIR OWN SEPARATE CONTRACT. ( Imagine that over 100 separate contracts) I am sure the accepted practice of allowing the Big O.E.M.S. to dictate to the smaller has it's benefits for the employers, it also makes things less complicated for us as a Local, especially for ease of transition between employers. THE NO DAY SHIFT IN MOD. This has already been established in a letter of agreement on page 88 of the Old contract, hasn't been used too much yet. The only change I read was that we now work 4:00 pm until 12:30 am instead of 4:30 pm until 1:00 am. home 1/2 hr earlier.
3 MAN TEAMS IN MOD 2 Journeymen and a 85% apprentice. for 2 elevators, Co, saves 90% of an apprentice cost, OK, how much productivity is lost? gotta go for coffee, gotta go get parts, gotta go for material, gotta go to the Bathroom, gotta stop what I'm doing to help the other Mech, How much of a loss is this?
GPS Thyssen krup agreement has it , it's just not spelled out, ( Evolution of Video or cell phone technology, portable computers or evolution of portable computers?) The new age is here and we like other working people are held accountable, be where your supposed to be when your supposed to be there and this is not a concern. ( there is a provision for Mis use of GPS)
6 AM START now it is an option not voluntary, there is a 12 1/2 % Limit. What happens @ 2:30 pm when all the calls are still in?
CALL BACK On pg 59 it says " while on call after employees normal work hrs,( Not on Sat and Sun) if not assigned any work during employees on call time, you get 3 hrs @ st time no Benefits" well on pg 33 it still says Employee will exercise their initiative to perform Service work when not answering calls, don't we all have doors, door-locks, Gen or Mach Brushes that need attention? doesn't seem like an issue.
8 HR WORK DAY IN CONSTRUCTION I spent 18 years in construction before going into service for the last 10. Many times we struggled for 1700 hrs with this 40hrs X48 weeks = 1920 along with the higher pay rate for construction( which is deserved) it's a bonus, and it was already there on pg 90 of the old contract, if it's such a good deal why haven't the companies been using it?
HOISTING They gained pistons, cylinders and trusses( to some extent) They can also use the outside Hoist( Manned by a Local 1 Brother/Sister) and hoist gas, air, torches, welders, gang boxes, tools, and chain falls( and we were already using the hoist for that ourselves). Car slings and Cwt frames to the 9th or 10th Fl. Weight frame won't fit, along with rails, car slings now will be unloaded, hoisted in outside hoist, unloaded then set up car sling in shaft on 9 or 10 instead of the ground floor, thats a lot more work to get slings to 9 or 10 verse the ground floor, Cwt's still have to be hoisted to the top , now lets see when the builders allow us to tie up the outside hoist all day.
THE MONEY $ 2,250 UP FRONT, PLUS 2 1/4 % THE FIRST YEAR AND 6% A YEAR FOR YEARS 2-4, NO OTHER TRADE HAS GOTTEN THAT IN NYC. COMPETITION FROM LOCAL3 It is there OTIS owns Unitech, and SCHINDLER just bought Slade, ask yourself why? Local 1 has competition, lets make the companies and R.E.B.N.Y'S choice an easy one. Vote for this contract and secure the next 4 years. THEN GET ACTIVE, SUPPORT THE ELEVATOR SAFETY BILL, SUPPORT THE WORK PRESERVATION,SUPPORT THE ORGANIZING OF LOCAL 3. 1 TRADE 1 UNION.
MOST IMPORTANTLY SUPPORT " OUR TEAM" THEY HAVE DONE THEIR BEST FOR US AND OUR UNION.
card number 2178 Comments: Well here it is almost four months later, and we as a membership have a major decision to make. Vote yes or no? hhmmm? The first thing i would like to say is I have really been busier now than before the lock out, i have given my heart and soul, to fight the fight that we have been saying for the last 3 and a half months. Financially it has sent me back to somewhere i never ever wanted to be..Emotionally i am on a roller coaster ride, and it has put a damper in my home...but i fought the fight from hour one and i never have looked back, not even once...I believe in what we went out for, the rallies, the meetings, the sesiions, the 400 dollar cell phone bills, all to achieve what we went out for...now did we achieve that? Thats what we as the membership will vote on the 26th....I have very mixed feelings about it and all that went along with this....I really feel that our TEAM is doing the best they can for the time being, they are feeling alot of pressure from brothers and sisters that are really hurting right now, and i do feel for all those members....BUT in a war there are casualties and there is nothing you can do about that, it sucks, but we have to look at it in a whole....approx 3000 members approx 1200 locked out....Out of those numbers how many people are that desperate? I dont know...But i can imagine WE ARE ELEVATOR PEOPLE...THE MOST TALENTED TRADE OUT THERE...WE KNOW HOW TO DO ALOT OF THINGS.....and i think that the majority of us are gonna survive...BECAUSE WE ARE SURVIVERS.....Maybe me made a mistake preaching 777. no shift work and no gps and no give backs....maybe we should have left the door open for those things...BUT WE DID NOT.... we stood strong and tall and loud on what we wanted...RIGHT? WHY? I stood there yelling myself 777, NO GPS, NO SHIFT WORK AND NO GIVE BACKS OF ANY KIND.....remeber I CANT HEAR YOU....WHAT DO YOU WANT? WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO? I CANT HEAR YOU? IT JUST KEEPS PLAYING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN IN MY HEAD.....Maybe if people would stop calling the hall and crying the blues to our team, they would not have felt the pressure as much they did....I spent days at the hall the phones did not stop from people crying.....Well ony a couple of days left and we will find out how strong LOCAL #1 IS AND WE ARE GONNA BE......
card number 1357 Comments: Hope everyone had a nice Fathers day. As I discuss our contract with my family members and friends ,I think this is the best were going to get./ My brotherinlaw is a school teacher whose working over 2 years without a contract , his response was 666 ,who cares about gps if your doing the right thing and the increase in your annuity .To be competitive we have to make some adjustments. If its going to keep guys working ,rather sitting on the bench it cant be bad.Service mechanics annuity is going back to 5.25-$6.00-$6.75-$7.50 ,doesn't say anything about pension ,is it still 1700 hours?Talking about our future ,annuity ,do the math.My other brotherinlaw works for coco cola ,they have gps ,and never had a problem with it again he said 666 he would take in a minute. They settled with 4% over 3 years. We all agreed 1 union 1 contract .I will vote no if enema gets gps ,everyone should get it, or no one ,If everyone gets it ill vote yes .Gps doesn't bother me ,its the 2 separate contracts that does .Local 1 A- and local 1 b,which local am i in,a,or, b. SKYDIVESTEVE
card number 540 Comments: Dear Brothers & Sisters I hope everyone had a pleasant fathers day, secondly I would like to thank the negotiating committee for a job well done. I know there are many brothers & sisters out there who may be unhappy with the terms set forth in this agreement but I for one will support it ,because I firmly believe that our negotiating committee after a thirteen week lockout& months of endless meetings with both the emany group & themselves, would never have presented this contract to it's rank & file members if they did not believe that it was the best negotiated settlement that could be achieved, given the current fiscal climate. Moreover if you take the time to go back & read previous contracts you will realize that Otis has had a separate agreement for a number of years,it is only recently that they decided to rejoin the emeny group. Finally I would like to address the GPS issue by using this analogy, Dinosaures were the most powerful creatures that at one time inhabited our planet, they didn"t survive because they couldn"t adapt to a changing envirement.I would rather see my local adapt to the changing technologies than stand still & be left behind by it"s own shortsightedness.
card number 1703 Comments: A few of our brothers and sisters are asking if we go on strike will we lose our unemployment ? I don't think so but I am not an expert but in New York because a lockout and strike are considered the same by N.Y.S. unemployment .I am leaving this link to unemployment section 592 maybe this will help you out if you live in NEW York. /http://www.labor.state.ny.us/search/search.asp?query=section+592
card number 352 Comments: 6:00 a.m. to 9:00a.m start was already in the contract. We have it limited now. - Our advantage.
GPS - Was already in our field links and/or vehicles. Now we have provisions to ensure no disciplinary abuses. - Our advantage.
Hoisting - As Ray stated at the meeting, we will be handling the material. The only thing we won't be doing is hoisting the material between ground and 9th floor. We still have to hoist it into the hatch. We are still setting motor room equipment in place, stacking our rails, slings, etc. - Draw.
Mod - No first shift needed - advantage Emany. (Now it's up to the companies to use this advantage to increase their market share, bring the local 3 shops over to us, and get us more mod jobs for this new century).
6% for 4 years - Not 7%, but better than anything I have heard anyone else getting. $2250 and the percentage raise is the first year pay raise with all the cash up front, not a bribe!
Explain this contract to your friends, relatives, and other union members and see how silly it sounds to not vote yes.
In 1972, local 1 went on strike for 7 months for .25! Please, let's not repeat the same mistake.
I think Ray and the negotiating team brought us a fair and equitable agreement.
As always, though, I will stand behind and back THIS LOCAL on the picket line, on the job, in conversation and anywhere else, whether we ratify or go back to the table.

card number formally 259, now retired Comments: I don't know Brother Haynes personally, but being his brother, my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Get Well Soon! Being retired since Feb. 2003 I have been hesitant to add to the postings because my status will neither lose or gain from your decision on Sunday. But I've seen contracts since 1971 and they always concede something, while throwing us a meager "bone" in the paycheck. It's always been a gradual slope--not a water slide! As far as this contract is concerned, I can only say one thing. BE VERY CAREFUL. The oldest rule of war is DIVIDE AND CONQUER. And lastly, Brother Link. Keep those missives coming, and as long as you want. Don't let anyone stick a cork in you. I'll vouch right here that everything you write is directly from your heart. Nothing wrong with that. GOOD LUCK LOCAL ONE Bob Interligi
card number 85185 Comments: In regards to Pete W's question, unemployment doesn't distinguish "lockout" from "strike", they are both considered labor disputes. |
