I received the contract Saturday.  I was impressed that the whole contract was there -- not like we used to get one page with all the changes on it.  I know you can't please everybody, but I think the negotiating team did a damn good job.  Remember, they're up for election in two years and they might be back in the field working with us, so this contract affects them, too.  The most important thing is that you show up to vote next Sunday.

A person who walks a picket line for even one day because of a lockout will never be the same again!

I couldn't sleep, the yay,we are going back wore off and all I heard was "take your gps and shove it up your ass" over and over playing in my head .We are already out right? So lets see what happens if we vote no.Otis and shindler are too big,For years they made a profit and a good one without all this surveillance and nonsense.I have decided to stand outside the vote with a sign that reads

                Local one endangered species list

please vote no and help save them

My reasons for no,may be different from your reasons to vote no,but none the less I stand beside you.

Good morning brothers and sisters….

Just want to take a minute here to wish all the men out there a happy Father’s Day.. And in particular my brother Gary Haynes.. As I’m being called this very minute by my loved ones to shower me with praise and lay before me a King’s breakfast…My thoughts are with my brother and his family…….. To his family I submit the following…It is precisely at the point of your deepest pain and despair that your father up in heaven IS CLOSEST TO YOU. It is in your weakness and helplessness that he will make you strong.

It is said that…”faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things that have not happened yet”… From my family to yours we offer our prayers for a speedy recovery… And when you see Gary today  or tomorrow just tell him  a brother is thinking of him and praying for him..

I know a bit about prayer…My son just got back from serving two tours in Iraq.. He revealed to me..(not his mom) that he should not have come home Because that many; were the times when he almost lost his life… I don’t understand completely why he was spared, many brave young men from long island never made it home.. I’m humble by God’s grace and mercy upon our lives and accept whatever happens as his divine will.. But throughout it all PRAYER brought my son home…Gary will survive this and Prayer will be the key…

May god bless him and afford him Today……Fathers Day..Tender mercies and a good day with all his loved ones all around him..

From me and mine to you and yours..

The Colon Family

PS. We have submitted his name to the prayer chain in our church …And as always it is with great humility and  expectations that we bring our prayer request before his throne…

    Happy Fathers day to all,

As i sit here typing this morning, having just tried to claim my unemployment benefits on line(without success at this point)

several things come to mind(must be the coffee).

I cant help on this fathers day to think of my own father and his own labor dispute in 1981,he was an air traffic controller who was fired by then president RONALD REAGAN.

For those that have followed the labor movement in this country it can be argued that, that was the beginning of the end for our movement.

The reason i bring this up is this.Despite having lost his job all together, his life went on...was it the same..absolutely not but he continued on with his life.My point is this,we can not accept a contract out of fear.Fear of how will i pay my bills, what about the mortgage, child support, etc. We all have our own crosses to bare, but even in the very worst case scenarios we will survive.

The strong do survive, so please don't accept this contract based on fear alone. We are not alone in this fight...we clearly and thankfully have the support of the entire i.u.e.c.

Another thing that comes to mind is this,in my fathers case they had bad union leadership. That is absolutely not the case here, in my view these guys on the negotiating committee from Ray on down are top notch, whose integrity is second to none!

however having said that,it does not mean that i have to like the contract.

I'm not going to get into the particulars of the contract, but would like to touch on the mindset of our union.

I very often here, and see that 7,7,7,..was unrealistic to begin with...why????...this is by far the most highly skilled trade that there is..constructors weld, read blue print, electrical prints,pipe,hoist,rig,etc....etc..in NYC the elevator shaft is the coldest place on earth in the winter, and in the summer hotter then hell(as the scabs and "skilled office employees"will discover if this lockout/strike continues).

It is an extremely dangerous job...i myself have experienced the death of a brother on a job and its something that will forever stay with me...My prayers have been said every night for Gary Haynes and his family who continues to fight for his life.

Ive spent some time working on the outside hoist,it doesn't get any more dangerous then that.

the guys in service and repair have the ability to fix and trouble shoot equipment from one end of the spectrum to the other often times without prints.

Ever try getting a generator up 3 flights of stairs...no picnic.

Ive also heard "well we didn't give much back"....why the hell should we give anything back thats been earned!

OK...i respectfully submit that we "go back to the table".

  we deserve more.

Brother William Dutra

You are absolutely right in regard to Brother Gary Haynes, now above all he still needs our thoughts & Prayers. My 4 year old daughter asks me daily how my hurt friend is ( I never met Gary but she nows that we are all Friends). So daily my family is reminded and does feel & Pray for Gary and his family as I'm sure many others do.

I think you may have miss understood what I was implying, or maybe I may have not explained my feelings properly.

I think that if we reject this contract as a majority then we as a whole would be out of work, but rather than being locked out then, we would be on strike without a contract. I don't see how we the working can vote no and continue to work while the locked out Brothers & Sisters continue to suffer.

VOTING NO MEANS NO TO THE WHOLE CONTRACT NOT JUST THE ENAMY PORTION.

OR AM I WRONG ABOUT THIS, WILL THE INDEPENDENTS CONTINUE TO WORK?

BOTTOM LINE IS THAT WE ARE BEING DIVIDED WHICH IS NOT A GOOD THING HENCE MY ENDING IN MY PREVIOUS POST

ALL FOR ONE & ONE FOR ALL

Respectfully submitted

I have posted more scab pics. Make sure all of you from the others locals check these pics in hope of identifying guys from your areas. Until we are back to work, we need eyes in the city.

About the contract: 6,6,6,6 is more than any trade, anywhere will ever get. Sure we asked for 7,7,7, and the enemy wanted 7,0,7,0,7. Average it out and we did better then they did.

My phone at otis has had gps for over a year. I don't think they ever used it, but I am on the job when I am supposed to be.

The way Ray explained the hoisting, it will be such a cluster-#### that it will take twice as long, and rails won't fit in the outside hoist.

Negotiations are about give and take, and some compromise. I am sure the team did all they could to get what is being voted on. Remember, they could be working next to you or me in two, or five years. So let's see everyone at the meeting, and the vote. It's still a democracy.

First and foremost , lets not forget about the struggle facing our brother Gary HAynes. Also at the union meeting THursday they said his partner ,  saved his life!!! HE callled 911 , He was there for him!!!!Kenny "Im sorry brother I didnt hear your last name. But brother God Bless you and your quick thinking, thanks to YOU Brother Haynes STILL has a chance !!! My thoughts and prayers are with you brother Haynes. On another note , please enjoy your fathers day! with your family and your friends. I will say one thing to the brothers who are working "regarding them feeling sorry for us If they note NO. I would like someone to answer this ? If the working members vote No, arent they going back to work? If their is any of Our business agents reading this post I would greatly appreciate an answer. I personally am locked out, I will continue to fight the fight for ALL MEMBERS working or locked out WE ARE FAMILY. I read some posts that I didnt appreciate. I wont mention names and I refuse to be negative. We all are entitled to 1 VOTE > MY THOUGHTS IS I WISH WE HAD 1 vote for 1 contract , why be punished when you work for Emany, as far as Thyssen Krupp " independent agreement, you might not have GPS but you will have video survellance. THYssen krupp section says These devices may include cell phones or an evolution of cellphone technology, beepers or an evolution of beeper technology,or portable computers or an evolution or an evolution of portable computers ,video technology  or an evolution of video technolgy and COMPANY VEHICLE. Hopefully this will be adressed at meeting .So you wont have tracking but you will have your picture being taken?I dont like doing negotiating over the website but this is what I read in BOLD underlined section. I do believe Ray and all the negotiating team did their best. I do believe they worked very hard and like I said did their best, for this I am extremely grateful. I just wonder why not 1 union 1 contract? Why at every rally No GPS NO SHIFTWORK NO hoisting concessions. To everyone in Local 1 , working , locked out and to our negotaiting team I wish all of you a Happy Fathers Day. Please vote for your future, NOT FOR INSTANT GRATIFICATION. Thanks as always for listening ........Regardless of vote outcome I will always be a proud member of Local 1 , I will always support the officials that we elected, I will always be educated , informed and extremely well trained . Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link STAY STRONG ! STAY UNITED ......1 CONTRACT 1 UNION 1 VOTE

Section 1 (A)          GPS

" to monitor Employee performance "

This seems to be a clause that could one day open up to be a big can of worms. Looking at it from the companies point of view, I think they could easily twist this into "cause to dismiss", based on lack of performance. Pit one guys production against another's, and there you go. Doesn't matter that the first little red blip on the screen has to travel farther than the second little red blip.

This short little clause has a very long reaching grip!

While reading all the posts today I find two things that disturb me:

First being I see no mention of brother Gary Haynes and his fight for survival. Understand that his fight is much bigger than ours right now and he as well as his family needs our support. As previously stated email your thoughts and prayers to GHaynesLocal1@aol.com and I will be sure to get them to him and his family.

The second being a statement and I quote; "I'm sure these Brothers & Sisters would like to get back to work, but I'll bet they vote NO and stand behind what they have been fighting for. Meanwhile the ones that have been working will say that this contracts not so bad and it doesn't effect them."

Rest assured as a working member I have had conversations with many and this statement can not be any further from the reality that we are facing. Most of whom I have spoken with are in favor of rejecting this contract yet we understand and are concerned on how our votes may determine the Locked out brothers future. We feel it unfair that it is easy for us to vote NO and continue working. Yet we feel the burden you are facing and feeling should be considered. That is why we watch and read all posts.

Had it not been for the accident that put Gary Haynes in a fight for his life I doubt I would be posting. I would be sitting back reading like most of the working membership, trying to get a feel of what everyone thinks and using that knowledge to determine my vote.

Respectfully submitted,

Bill Dutra

Brothers and Sisters,

OTIS HAD GPS ALREADY, maybe Schindler did also, it was in our field links, they said it was there only for 911???? We had flexible start times too, how many of you started work at 6am, 7am and 8am??

The contract is not what we asked for, but it is the best the negotiating team could do after FIVE months......

When you sell a used car, dont you ask MORE then what you  really want for it?????? We asked for 7% and got 6%......

                 but its gonna be close

You are all right,(although we must be realistic)what we were led to chant, the

showing up daily and chanting and the possiblity of

being harrassed when we get back for chanting what

we believed to be locked out for .One contract is the only way,and let Walker (His picture is above)go explain that to the real estate board. You started it,I guess we will try to finish it.Like I said before the 2250  and 2 separate contracts  so Pharoh can rule is really urking me.

Dear Brothers and Sisters

"WE " Voted in our negotiating team.

I have always had confidence in them and today have  more then ever.  Thank you to Ray and " Our Proud Team" for representing us well.

This Team is the Team we felt would represent us best and carry us into the Future, On Jan 10th 2005 they began negotiating for our new contract. On June 9th they came back with a contract they felt was the best we could do in this round.

Why after 5 months would they bring us a contract that was not the best they could do for us?

Have any of us ever gotten a contract we were ever completely happy with?  Of course not.

The technological advances in our industry over the past 10  years have been incredible and concessions have to be made, we do have competition .

Not just in the skilled trades but in Every area of our lives.

We have to make Local 1 the Obvious choice in the Market

not just the Highest Skilled.  I ask you all to read your contract identify what the real changes are and then Vote !

What you want is not always realistic, so we must at least be practical.

AGAIN THANK YOU TO RAY AND " OUR TEAM FOR THE BEST POSSIBLE EFFORT"

There may have been alot of stuff in the past contract that wasn't put into use, but I have no doubt that just about everything that they put into this contract will be used. NO GPS, NO HOIST CHANGES, NO SHIFT WORK. I haven't taken a bribe in my life and I won't start now. Each new contract that comes up I know there's a chance for a strike. But with each new contract should be a chance for a better way to live and work. That is why we have contract votes. I've been out of work for 3 months and if this goes down my husband will be out of work along side of me and all our brothers and sisters. This is something we need to unite with. NO SHIFT WORK, NO HOIST GIVEBACKS, NO GPS. Just like what we chanted at all the rallies we went to. Dont let this be the beginning of the end, please!

After reading this contract, the first thought I had was,how do we as a UNION , still have independents.  These two words are about as contradictory as they can possibly be.  What exactly are they independent of ?  The Union.  This set-up makes the Major League Players Association seem like a united body !!!!  I seem to remember a Battle Cry of " ONE TRADE ,ONE UNION".  How about " ONE UNION , ONE CONTACT".  I appreciate the hard work done by our negotiating committee and the countless hours at the table, but I believe it is our turn to let EMANY know what we think of their offer. Let Mr.Walker and his cronies know that the demands of the negotiating committee and the membership are one and the same.  Use this opportunity to have your voice heard. HAPPY FATHERS DAY.

In addition to the $2250 they should straighten out the unemployment issue.  If they went to the Dept of Labor and did what was necessary to allow us to receive the unemployment for the full three months  (remember we got nothing in NJ), I think that would make this entire experience easier to put in the rearview mirror.
