card number 820 Comments: First, I would like to thank all the brothers and sisters who have sent in their two hundred and fifty dollars to help us keep our medical. Second, I want to thank our leaders because I know that they are fighting for us. Third I would like to remind everyone why we were locked out. We were locked out because EMANY decided that they wanted to change the rules of the game, rules that were there for many years. They figured that the time was right. They didn't decide this overnight. They spent alot of time, effort and money to plan this and on March 16, they had everthing in place. They locked us out. They tried to bring us to our knees. We won the arbitrations. Now they say that they are hurting. I guess things aren't going quite the way they planned. We've come to far and given up too much to give in now. STAY STRONG, WE WILL WIN!
card number 646 Comments: Brothers and sisters-please say a prayer for the family of my cousin, Louis Allen, he was killed in Tikrit by a mortar attack this past Tuesday. He leaves behind his wife and 4 sons, the oldest but 6 years old.
card number 1752 Comments: The open letter to the membership that was posted by Bro. Hernandez hits the nail right on the head. These people at the E.M.A.N.Y. companies have absolutely no regard for their "Valued Employees", for all they care you could be standing on the street with a cup in your hand! For years they have lied and brow beat us with tales of how they can't compete, they are loosing money, etc. The corporate mentality they have is outrageous. They make a projection that they will make 10 million, but only make 5 so they start crying the blues about loosing money WHA, WHA! I hope that the Bro. and Sis. in N.J. will get the first crack at job openings as they develop since it is these people that have it the hardest. I am fortunate to be working, but I have known hard times. I hope the Bro. and Sis. out there on the front line can stand strong, I know that you all are already standing proud!
card number 2361 Comments: I am loving this... I think the transfer of power has just begun. Stay Strong and lets watch these cry babies at EMANY pout some more about how much money they are losing. Anyone out there feel compassion for them ? Gather the family & make some popcorn this show is about to get really good. Thanks Ray & the entire negotiating committee. Have a delightful weekend Sincerely, The Kowalski's
card number 8117 Comments: while this is my first posting to our website, i check it daily and would like to say what a wonderful tool it has become for our union. our negotiating team is doing a comendable job under difficult circumstances and for the most part, so are our members. we all need to stand behind ray and team %100 for as long as it takes them to bring home a contract that is fair. unfortunately, its begining to look as if e.n.e.m.y. is planing to keep us out past the expiration of our unemployement benefits. consider this an early warning. we must start preparing now for this possibility. i myself, am working many hours with second rate jobs off the books, trying to put away as much money as i can in preparation for this future occurance. its tough making ends meet now, and will only get tougher if this happens but understand failure is not an option for us. this is our livelihood. if e.n.e.m.y. wins even a small victory now, it will only enbolden them to come back at contracts end, and fight for the remaining issues on their agenda. remember, a prepared union is a strong union.
card number 2200 Comments: To all my Local 1 Brothers and Sisters,
First Off, To Brother Haynes and His Family you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Just opened some more B/S from good ole Schindler. Very sad news for them and their reported 7 Billion Dollar earnings in 2004. Wonder what kind of "Bonus" the big guys got from our hard work, I'd say several of our members annual salary put together. While we bust our backs to keep our Blue collar life intact, so sorry, and now they state our jobs are in jeopardy, what next??????????????
Seen it all to often, lost a Buddy, several years back to one simple mistake, "Rest in Peace Rodney", had some close calls myself and I never take risks. We are worth every penny they pay us and more, we are skilled workers no matter what they are puttin out there. Everyday at work is risky, we can't be replaced by just anyone with a toolbox. Remember That!!
Remember those who had your back, and never forget those standing on it.
Pretty Hot these days wonder how the replacements are holding up, nothin like a dark, steamy shaft way and motor room!
Any news from todays negotiations? What about this months dues? Frankly don't have too much extra cash these days.
All in all, takin it day by day!
Live Clams for Striper's, Blood worms for Weak's.
Keep the Faith, we are in this together, Better Days are on the Horizon. Remember Davey and Goliath.
Sincerely Brother Robert Langdon
card number 1395 Comments: They (EMANY) flipped a coin and lost. Now through their letters of incompetence they are trying to make it our fault that they are losing our jobs and customers to other companies and Unions. It just shows us how creative they are with the pen. I hope that they come to their senses soon so we all have jobs to come back to even if it is with another company in Local 1. Stay Strong.
card number 14 Comments: I went to see Gary today and met with his family. He is still hanging in there but he is basically in the same condition he was in from day 1. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks, Brother McCourt
card number 352 Comments: Three months locked out,one quarter of the fiscal year- OUR RESOLVE IS STILL AS STRONG AS IT WAS MARCH 16- OUR PERCEPTION OF EMENY HAS BEEN CLARIFIED OUR INVESTMENT OF OUR TIME AND TRIBULATIONS INSTILL PERSEVERANCE STAY THE COURSE... WE SHALL PREVAIL !!!
card number 8654 Comments: First and foremost I would like to send my blessings to Gary and to his family for a speedy recovery from his injury. It`s funny how many times you walk into a shaft way and not even think that something can happen. This job we do is a dangerous one and never let it be told that it isn`t. It dosn`t matter what company or what local your from an elevator has no mind or conscious, it feels no pain but it causes it. So tell EMANY that we are worth alot more than what they are offering and not to compair us with roofers and dry wallers even though we could do that job if we had to!!!
card number 1899 Comments: It's hard to cry poverty when you make this kind of profit. Will the emany companies ever stop eating the little guys? This article was on the news wire. Danbo Elevator manufacturer to acquire Bergen County firm Slade Industries Inc., a privately-owned elevator services provider, agreed to be acquired by Schindler Enterprises Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of the Swiss elevator giant Schindler Group. Schindler Enterprises, which is based in Morristown, N.J., said it was acquiring Ridgefield Park, N.J.-based Slade in expand its access to the New York/New Jersey market. A spokeswoman for Schindler said the company did not anticipate significant job cuts as a result of the merger and that Slade’s senior management was expected to stay on after the merger. Slade, founded in 1911, has been under its current ownership for the past 20 years. The company maintains, repairs and modernizes elevators and escalators in commercial office buildings, apartment buildings, condominiums, industrial plants and senior citizen homes. The Schindler Group reported revenues of $7.3 billion in 2004, with the U.S. subsidiary alone reporting sales of $1 billion. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it was expected to be completed by mid-year.
card number 8147 Comments: LETS HOPE TODAY IS THE DAY EMANY COMES TO ITS SENSES AND DECIDES TO END THIS SENSELESS LOCKOUT. THEY REALIZE WE WILL NOT GIVE IN; RAY AND THE COMMITTEE HAVE MADE THIS CLEAR TO THEM;LETS WISH OUR COMMITTEE LUCK TODAY AS THEY TRY TO CLOSE OUT THE DEAL. LOSING 200 PARK AVE. TO A LOWLIFE OUTFIT LIKE NOUVEAU IS A SHAME FOR US AND A SLAP IN THE FACE TO OTIS;I HOPE EMANY REALIZES THAT THAT IS NOW THEIR MAJOR CONCERN. THIS LOCKOUT GAVE NEW LIFE TO LOCAL 3 AND THE NON-UNION COMPANIES. AND THAT IS WHO EMANY SHOULD BE LOOKING TO TAKE DOWN-NOT THE HARD WORKING EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE BEEN LOCKED OUT FOR THE LAST THREE MONTHS AND COUNTING;BUT THATS PROBABLY WISHFUL THINKING-I KNOW THE UNION WOULD DO THEIR PART;WILL EMANY AND THE OTHER COMPANIES SUCH AS THYSSEN DO THEIRS? THEY CAN START WITH UNITEC AND SLADE WHICH SCHINDLER JUST PURCHASED. AND LETS NOT FORGET NEW YORK AND MAINCO.SO THE BALL IS IN EMANYS COURT; THE LONGER THIS GOES,THE HARDER IT IS GOING TO BE FOR EMANY. BECAUSE THEIR CUSTOMERS ARE TIRED OF EXCUSES;AND RIGHTFULLY SO.
card number 1347 Comments: Anthony and William posts were right on. At OUR time of frustration , this situation Is only temporary. Our thoughts and prayers should be with Gary Haynes and his family. Please take a moment of your time , say a prayer, light a candle, or even stop what you are doing and realize how LUCKY you are and how Gary Haynes family needs our support. I also would like for everyone to say a prayer for brother Lou Grammeles son, he was In a motorcycle acccident over the weekend. He is in Stonybrook Hospital, I only know Lou a short while, we met at Schindler Long Island. Lou is an excellent father, and a GREAT Local 1 brother. My meeting of Lou was actually created by "the tragedy of 911" he worked there for Ace Elevator when the "HATRED of TERROR", took the TRADE CENTER TOWERS down.My thoughts and prayers are with both the Haynes and Grammele family. May God Bless them both for recovery, when I heard about these horrible accidents, I couldnt do nothing but hold my daugther Angela and son Scott, appreciate and respect LIFE. Brothers and sisters we are only here on Earth for a short while, please spend your time wisely and fill it with MEMORIES Respectfully Submitted Brother Brian Link card #1347.
card number 2757 Comments: I have a funny story to share and there is a point in there somewhere. This is for you Peggy,my wonderful friend.Being the type of person who never wanted anything but my kids, family, and friends to be happy and healthy I accepted being semi-poor a long time ago. After all ,my wish was health and so far I got that and since I had forgotten to ask for money I cant complain. One night when my girls were small ,we sat outside on the stoop trying to cool off.(mulligan says you can tell the queens people on long island cause our lawn furniture is in the front) Now I grew up in Bayside and there is a beautiful Bay in Bayside(Duh)So I said to my girls ,come on lets go on a boat ride.MOMMY you have a boat,?sure do I said.We went to the bay and they have this boat that takes you to your boat.WE get on and I tell the guy to take me to my boat.He goes to the first one ,oh thats not it.He goes to the second one, hmm, thats not it.the third.Damn, where the heck is my boat.?6 boats later ,enjoying the ride, the breeze,The guy says Lady ,you don't have a boat do you?I look at him, tilt my head and say does it matter? Well every fri night,Me and my little girls would go for a boat ride, and I would swear up and down to the guy ,my boat was somewhere.A couple of summers ago my kids went to a 5000 dollar a kid sleep away camp for free,so they had to wash some dishes .MY point is when your down you find a way, somehow ,someway you find a way.And I hope that every single person that has been locked out has at least learned something, whether it be ,this union has and always will be on your side.whether it be how wonderful and generous your brothers and sisters are.whether it be to finally see how important all your shop stewards are,and of course most important your kids come first ,not Otis, kone,or shindler, and that play station can never replace throwing a ball to your kid or a boat ride for that matter. My prayers are with the Haynes Family, may you find strength, courage and comfort each day.
card number 1635 Comments: Article in today's Bergen Record the only two elevators in a senior citizen complex in Fort Lee have been out of service since Mon.One was returned to service last night, one still out. card number 996 Comments: WELL SAID AND A GREAT POINT ANTHONY!
Gary Haynes and his family and friends are and have been fighting a battle since the time of his accident. Each and every passing minute has been monumental in his fight.
Having been through it first hand with my own son I can tell you first hand what he and his family are dealing with.
First is the shock of the whole situation, than comes the horror of seeing every conceivable machine hooked up to a loved one. At this point you wait for each and every second to click by in order to get through the first 24 hours(most critical) followed by the next 24 to hopefully be moved from the critical yet stable list. Next is a whole slue of things that I will hold off on for the time being.
It is my understanding that Gary has shown some improvement let alone make it through the first48 hours. Rest assured this is just the very beginning of a long tough battle that he and his family will face.
That being said, I concur with Anthony in that we digress for a moment in our battle and focus our thoughts on a fallen comrade that needs our support.
Thanks for your time, Bill Dutra
card number 103 Comments: Didn't know Gary at all, but just got back from my local church and lit a candle and said a prayer that he is on his way to total recovery.brothers and sisters we should take 5 minutes out of this fight of ours and say a prayer that brother Gary will be back to work soon
card number Local 1IUEC Card #1347 Comments: Just wanted to thank the brothers who came out in force last night on Long Island. We had a great get together ,some burgers and dogs. But most of all we were all there to support one another! I spoke with most of the brothers and their was one common fact! They were all UNITED, many had questions , many had concerns. But what made me feel great was everyone was asking how everyone else were doing? Bob Stork and Tony Carudo were there , and It is an extremely satisfying feeling when you "we" vote in a person into being an elected officer, and they do nothing but support OUR cause unconditionally. We have many obstacles ahead, these will never go away.Bob Stork , has been there more then I could ever asked for in A Business Agent. He has always taken my calls , he has always been their for all Local 1 members, working or locked out! Tony Carudo is a unique individual, He is YOUNG, He fights for Local 1 24/7 all year round. I am very fortunate to know Tony, last night at our meeting he spoke with conviction, you could see It , you can feel It. I am a very positive person with very strong beliefs and faith.I know my posts are somewhat long, "so what" , Its called free speech. Some people have told me they are long , even complained. I just appreciate that they are reading the posts on the Local 1 webpage. Please understand, everyone is entitled to their opinion , whether its good or bad.I will continue to EVERYTHING in my power to help Local 1 brothers and sisters locked out or working to KNOW that I will always be there for them . I will continue to educate the public, I still stand strong, I am educated, informed and highly skilled and trained. When we go back to work I will continue to demonstrate professionalism, I will continue to take care of OUR customers with respect and appreciate that Our Customers are really everything. So I am once again writing a long post, I feel great BEING INVOLVED!!! I feel fortunate to be surrounded by some of the finest PEOPLE I have ever met. To Ray , I KNOW YOU ARE FIGHTING FOR US! For this I am eternally grateful. I cant even list names of some people I have never met, but their posts FILL ME WITH PRIDE . WE ARE FAMILY, WE ARE UNITED , WE WILL PREVAIL . I MADE THE choice when I joined this UNION 23 plus years ago, I would be a benefit for my Union, I would always do my best. I would always work safe, I would always look out for my younger brothers and sisters. THanks to the all the brothers and sisters who are active members . To our group from Schindler Long Island, words cant express how proud I am of all of YOU. We make calls , you always show up. We ask for help, you show up. I would also like to personally thank Mike Duffy " a working brother", Craig Rieff and Charlie Yeager "Locked out Otis" for always helping out. Its not about who locked you out? We are Local 1 , we are family, we will remain a FAMILY. To Liz Neilson , and many many others who make me proud . DO not STOP! I would also like to thank Frank Wolfe, and Frank Andriotte(sorry about spelling) , for always being at Stonybrook,University for always being there for Local 1 . United we stand divide we beg, I have never been more proud to say I am a card carrying "PAID UP" Local 1 IUEC Union brother .Thanks for your time Brother brother Link card #1347
