card number 1899 Comments: Recon day. Found schindler scabs working on an escalator at 345 Park Ave. Talked to alot of building security guards. Found out that an unnamed VIP was stuck last night at the St. Regis Hotel. Found out that the large freight car at the GM bldg. was out for three days, and the "experienced office personnel" (scab) discovered it was just a stop switch in the car. Found out that the elevator service in the Waldorf Hotel is now a running joke with the hotel staff. Found out that another car at the Lipstick Bldg. is down (one has been for three months). Found out that one of the main escalators at the Weston Hotel has been out for almost two weeks, and the guests routinely drag their suitcases down the steps. Found out that when a car shuts down at 575 Lex., the super brings in five scabs to fix the problem (also no maintenance is getting done). Seems like the lunatics have taken over the asylum and nobody knows what to do. Oh yeah, Otis has lost the 90 car mod at Stuy Town, too bad. Danbo

card number 1732 Comments: I have been very patient during this lockout and negotiations. My patience has run out. Collective bargaining is a give and take process, the purpose of which , is to negotiate a fair and equitable agreement between both parties. There are no winners and losers.Over the last 20 yrs Local 1 has given much more than it has recieved. This has to stop. Now. Emany has stopped bargaining in good faith. They want want they want and don't appear to be willing to settle for less. Our negotiating team has given them a little bit on each point of disagreement, and have not gotten anything of substance in return.Emany will not budge. My opinion up to now has been to give a little and get a little, to reach that fair and equitable agreement. There have been 9 days of continuous negotiations with no agreement reached. My opinion has changed. It is time to ratify the present agreement ,7-7-7, no give backs. Emany does not appear to show any desire at all to reach an agreement.I say ratify now and let the chips fall where they may. Emany does have some options open to them if we ratify and God only knows which they will choose. This is a risk i feel we must take. The emany employees could be out of work for a very long time. Some of us may have to change careers, depending upon Emany's reaction. I would much rather look foward to returning to work under a fair contract than to return sooner under an unfair contract. To those brothers/sisters who are presently working, make no mistake about it, your employers do not want 7-7-7 and no give backs, they want Emany to fight their fight for them, and will be shocked if we ratify. They are not the good guys here, they are hoping we give in and fail. PS any ideas on what I have posted, feel free to contact me and share them PS I also posted this to Emany's website, interesting to see if they reply
card number 1732 Comments: I wrote what i think is an appropriate letter to the NJ Assemblypersons. I urge all to cut and paste and foward to the names listed below Dear --------
My name is ---------. I am a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local #1 NY/NJ. On March 16th, the employees of Otis, Kone and Schindler Elevator Companies, showed up for work as we usually do, on time and ready to work. We were instructed that there was no work for us and were told to turn in any company owned equipment in our possession, and that we will be notified when there will be work for us because the contract expired on March 15th at midnight. We were locked out. We were subsequently denied un-employment benefits because NJ Sate Law states that strike and lockout are labor disputes and are one and the same thing. This could not be further from the truth. We wanted to work; we did not refuse to work. These companies did not fire us; they did not lay us off. They locked us out and denied us our right to work. Most of us have paid into the un-employment system for many years without a claim. When we most need it we are being denied. Some of us have been able to find some work through a friend or relative, but most of us haven’t been able to find work. Employers will not hire us because they know that as soon as the lockout is over we will be returning to our career jobs. This leaves us in limbo, no job, and very little prospect for a job and no un-employment. This being said I strongly urge you to vote for a quick passage of Bill A3812. Please remember that we were ready willing and able to work but were denied that right. Please vote yes for Bill A3812.

card number 259 Comments: Okay, I got a brainstorm. We can put this whole lock-out behind us. All we gotta do is put some more issues on the table. How about 10 paid sick days per year? And unlimited personal use of company vehicles, AC or Florida, doesn't matter. And a minimum of 5 men for a rope job.And 10% increase in wages per year for 5 years.I'm up for suggestions, you know, all the proposals that we would have liked for the last 100 years. Then we can slowly remove each proposal from the table and report to the public that we're making concessions and we are disappointed at EMANY's lack of movement . In essence, we would ask the impossible so that when we start conceding we come out smelling like roses.I think it's fool-proof and...what's that? EMANY thought of it first? That's their strategy? Oh. Never mind.

card number 575 Comments: Good morning brothers and sisters… First of all well said brother Ed…their timing is right on…I guess they forget we’re skilled workers, versatile beyond their scope to comprehend due to the nature and intricacy of elevators, and in this era of solid state this versatility is ten fold. They have no clue what it takes to come out in the middle of the night, stand in a half lit motor room, with no prints for reference, one dirty oily rag in the corner of the motor room and practically no parts except for a few burnt out relay contacts and fixing an elevator.. that takes SKILL…In case this word is too difficult for EMANY to come to grips with.. Here’s what the Cambridge Dictionary of American language says it mean….Noun.. : the ability to use one's knowledge effectively and readily in execution or performance b : dexterity or coordination especially in the execution of learned physical tasks 3 : a learned power of doing something competently : a developed aptitude or ability <language skills>. And this definitions very adequately described what we all at Local # 1 are about…Same dictionary …defines versatility as this…To be able to change easily from one activity to another or able to be used for many different purposes: All this stuff sounds so familiar…Hmmm. let’s see …Hey This is what we do and who we are.. nuff said Like brother Ed a neighbor approached me and wanted to know if I knew how to hang a ceiling tile, he had priced a contractor and he wanted $700 to do the job… I told him I knew how to do it and did it for him.(with his help) and accepted no money for the job when I finished. He tried to force me to take the same $700 arguing that if he was gonna pay it to a stranger he would gladly give it to me being that I was out of work And I did such a nice job ( I didn’t take the money anyway)….. the point as in brother ed’s example is the same we all can do so much more and if we so chose to make money at it, that WOULD NOT PRESENT A PROBLEM, like he says unemployment checks are coming in, annuity disbursements are rolling in and just recently The pastor at my church knowing our situation called for a Love Offering for a family in need in our church and collected over $2000 and personally told me that if this situation is not resolved soon, that other love offerings will follow according to my needs, My pastor used to be a union rep for ATT years ago so he understands. In our church we adhere so a simple biblical belief religiously( pardon the pun..jajaja)..and that is ..”In the body of Christ when one member suffers, we ALL suffer” I would take out of my annuity whatever amount I need for as long as I need it to teach these fools a lesson.. it’s a matter of principle now and if it ends up costing me of 50 or 60 thousand in wages to see this through then so be it. The end justifies the means in this case the very existence of our union and way of life depends upon what happens right here in New York as they pool their resources to win so our mandate is clear Together we win Divided we WILL BE CONQUERED. And at this point I would rather march off a cliff then to give into these greedy fools demands...Otis used to negotiate their own contracts, They’ve joined EMANY obviously cause by themselves a LOCKOUT in this day and age would have been disastrous for them. Well guess what as justice will prevails this venture is gonna prove disastrous for them just the same because they have lost: as I’ve said before, something far more valuable…Our Love and Respect As brother Brian says summers around long island are beautiful and we’re willing to go the distance with this.. Don’t have a boat but I have several reels and there are plenty of areas around Moriches Bay where I can cast and bring home whatever is running at this stage in the season..To our negotiating team I say GO GO GO you have our support. God bless you my brothers and sisters.. and have a great weekend. Fraternally… Vinny PS.. I’m saving money on bait also.. cause there are plenty of earthworms in the backyard….jajajajaja
card number 1202 Comments: Hey emany- stop your whining. Remember, you LOCKED US OUT! Now after 3 months, your just starting to realize that we mean business. Your worried about a one week delay in negotiations. Too bad. If you feel so strongly, call us up and state your willing to sign the contract that all the independents have agreed upon. If not- sit and wait and above all - shut up!
card number 79172 Comments: Keep up the good work! We provide a service for them (company), they make money, we make a living. THEY DON,T OWN US! Regards, JH Local #8

card number 960 Comments: To all Local 1 Members, This is both for Local 1 members, but more for EMANY. I know your listening. I want to tell EMANY, you have very poor timing. Your judgement of Local 1 employees is terrible. It's been 10-11 weeks. In that time ,I have recieved my tax return, my first unemployment check (in 30 years, thank you) and a check from MY annuity. No thanks to you.Schindler paid 1/2 my unemployment. No thanks to you. My neighbor just asked me if I knew anyone who could replace his hot water heater. BINGO You see EMANY, We, Local 1, can do these sorts of things. Decks, fences, pools, brakes, ceiling fans,etc....... I guess you forgot we multi-task. We would rather be doing elevator work. You could send the scabs back home to the holes they crawled out of. It's a shame the scabs youv'e TRIED to replace us with can't find the keys for the motor room. I've spoken with a few building managers and engineers. They have assured me that they will NEVER be caught with thier pants down again. Never lied to again by EMANY. GOOD NEWS!!!! It seems that Milstiens, the Rudins, the Fischer Bros,Tishman/Speyer and building mgmt. companies such as SL Green, are to smart not to be held hostage by EMANY ever again. The key to all this....GENERIC EQUIPMENT EMANY , can you say MCE. MCE. If MCE went public tomorrow, I would cash in all my assets,401K,etc and BUY,BUY,BUY,,MCE.

card number wife Comments: From what I can tell on the NJ State Assembly website calander, the Labor Commitee which would hear/pass bill A3812 meets again on June 13th. Bill A3812 would allow unemployment for locked out members. Everyone denied unemployment should write a letter to each of the members, so that hopefully this bill gets passed quickly. If they don't hear from the people this is directly affecting, it might not get thru commitee this session. I'm sure corporate people are contacting them. The names and address of the committee members are:
