Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I have been a proud member of Local#1 IUEC for over 20years now. I have worked with 4 different Elevator Companies over the years and it was Local# 1 which was always there for me. I have preached to many of you over the years to realize as far as the companies are concerned you are just a number. This lockout was definately planned by Emany and If it could have been avoided by this Local it would have been. In the 80`s Otis Elevator broke off from Emany and retained their own contract until this one. I wonder why ? Could it be that if Otis tried a lockout by themselves it would have failed ?

I believe Emany has already taken it`s best shot and at this point in time we are all still standing tall. Sure my bills are behind, my daughters next semester of college is questionable and by the time this is done I am sure my credit will be ruined for years but guess what, This to will pass.

Our members need to stay the course , as it has been done in the past to preserve the future of Local#1 IUEC.

I thank the negotiating team from the bottom of my heart for protecting the way of life of the Elevator Constructor. I would also like to thank the lockout Captains especially Brothers; Brian Link, Tom O`brien for their constant efforts and postings. There are many days when your message has kept me strong.

I enjoy dinner with my family, I enjoy Hoisting, and to be honest I don`t even like my wife to know where I am when I am with my Local one friends.

God Bless and Stay Strong,

John Mathisen

Brothers and Sisters,Please correct me if I am wrong!Whatever contract that is agreed upon affects all members of Local 1.If EMANY wants give backs ALL of us working and not working will get the same givebacks!!EMANY might think that we are in a rush to settle
but they have to convince the majority of the working
Brothers and Sisters that they will also get GPS,shift work,Hoisting give backs etc... all of which their companies have agreed to not impose on March 16TH.Good luck Emany!!!!!!!Stay the course NO GIVEBACKS,NO GPS,NO SHIFT WORK,NO HOISTING RULES 7-7-7.Stay strong we will overcome!!!!

Brothers & Sisters…

As you can see by the recent postings. Rumors and speculations are running rampant…I personally don’t see anything wrong with that… Everyone is entitled to their opinionAnd as brother Stephen says, is a game of give and take. And although I also read and understand the concerns of the other brothers. I’m confident that our negotiating team is gonna bring us what at this time seems like the best we can get. However again as brother Stephen says…We cast the final vote.. IT IS UP TO US TO RATIFY or send our team back to the negotiating. Oh but his may not set too well with them.. If they accused us of stonewalling and not negotiating in good faith when we really were trying hard.. I wonder what they would say if we vote down whatever is brought before us…When things were rough for us, when uncertainty and despair worried our families, Where was Emany .Well like I said before, the tide has turned. Save your wrath, Your total contempt and disgust for these folks and your righteous anger and when you’re inside that booth….EXPRESS YOURSELF…

nuff said.

Hope everyone had a great and safe holiday weekend..

Just some thoughts...

My guess is this lockout is only about half over, so this is a little soon but..

Since emany locked us out because we have no contract...

and we must have a printed copy in our hands for 10 days before a vote ratifying the new agreement (as per the constitution) when and if there is one....

Hypothetically,

wouldn't it be stupid for us to go back to work for a tentative agreement (that hasn't been ratified) ?

Would we then lose unemployment if we then decided to strike,

or shall I say not accept the tentative agreement?

Would that then be considered a strike and subject to another 49 day wait for unemployment,if we had gone back to work?

Anybody know?

As far as rumors go, wait for the paper in your hands.

Dont go back to work before a vote. That will preserve the moral high ground as far as the "lock-out", unemployment and everyone's (hypothetical) day laborer jobs....

I trust Ray and the committee, its got to be very difficult to know thousands of people are depending on you, and that your decisions will effect peoples lives forever.

As for me personally, I never saw a contract I did like, except possibly the one that the rest of the companys signed recently.

I have never voted "yes" on a contract yet.

As a matter of fact... if its exactly the same as the last one... with a raise of 7-7-7 ( note that includes staggered starts and such)

I will vote "no" once again. I'd rather grab them by the throat and jump into hell with them than give them anything. They tried to starve us out, lets give them more than they bargained for. Another 26 weeks might suck but the fear is gone. Go

for the juggular.

HANG TOUGH!

I COULDN'T AGREE WITH KEN MORONEY MORE,,,LET'S ALSO MAKE SURE THE NEW START DATE OF THIS NEW AGREEMENT IS WHEN WE RATIFY IT,,,,,,OTHERWISE IT'S NOT A 4 YEAR DEAL FOR ANY OF US ,WORKING OR LOCKED OUT,,,ONE MORE ISSUE OUR MEDICAL PLAN NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED,,IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN MOST OF US WORKED ENOUGH HOURS TO BE COVERED TILL THE END OF JUNE,,,,AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT I WAS TOLD BY THE MEDICAL DEPT ,,THAT WAS UNTIL THE ARBITRATORS DECISION WAS MADE AND THE THE ONE PARAGRAPH THAT NEGATES THAT BECAUSE OF A WORK STOPPAGE WAS PUT INTO EFFECT,,ISN'T THIS OUR PLAN AND ISN'T IT SUPPOSED TO WORK TO OUR BENEFIT?? NOT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT OUR MEDICAL WOULD SEEM TO PUT US IN A STRONGER POSITION ,,,,I'M NOT SURE HOW THIS CAN BE ADDRESSED OR IF IT CAN EVEN BE CHANGED BUT WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS ANY INPUT ABOUT THIS ISSUE,,,,,OF COURSE I CAN'T FIND THE BENEFITS BOOK TO FIND THE RIGHT PAGE BUT IT'S IN THERE

I hear a lot of rumbling and the rumor mill is going great guns.  Don't believe anything that you hear through the grapevine.  After all is said and done, our negotiating committee is going to present to us a contract that they feel is the best deal that they could negotiate.  When that happens, we will review what they come up with and we will discuss the issues and then, and only then, we will vote on our contract.  Brothers and sisters, please stop speculating on what we have given up or what we have won.   The only thing that matters is what is presented to us by our negotiators.  Meaningful discussions will start at that point.

We all know that rumors are running rampant out here. Just want to give my 2 cents, if it isn't too late already. We have been out 74 days!! We have won battles over COBRA, ANNUITIES, UNEMPLOYMENT [NY]. Why should we not stay the course and fight for what we have started for. I thought we wanted 7,7,7. NO FLEX TIME, WE DO OUR OWN HOISTING, NO GPS. I understand there is give and take, but lets hope that after the poor negotiating on EMANY's part, we give the bare minimum. After the way they have treated us by LOCKING us out, we should give them 7,7,6.75, NO FLEX TIME,WE DO OUR OWN HOISTING, NO GPS. If, we go back after all the hardships we have been put through, with much less than that, it would be a shame. We know this could have been avoided by EMANY negotiating while we worked, but they chose otherwise, so lets not go back to work with our tail between our legs. I would rather go back with my head held high, proud to be a Local 1 member, knowing that corporate greed lost the war.

To the brother who asked about the 6-9 start time. This has been in the contract for years. It states : any continuous 8 hours between 6am and 6pm with lunch (7 hrs for construction). This mainly applies to standby maintenance. Hopefully when the negotiations are done everyone will receive a copy of the contract and keep it for references. Then we will know what the rules are before we go to the shop stewards and/or BA's. This will save time, because we all need to work together, and know what we can do if the company mutts start there s#!t.
Nice weather for the holiday weekend, I hope the scabs are getting run ragged and really miss their families, because we get to be with ours. Stay strong, and keep looking for scabs until the minute we go back, they just love being surprised with a camera flash.

10 weeks ago we said no GPS! No hoisting changes! And no shift work! And 7 7 7! Why for the love of God are we giving them GPS blocking and 6-9 start [shift work] and for less then 777! If this is the case we just wasted 10 weeks! because they will get the rest in 4 years! If this is all true this could have been done 10 weeks ago! They only won't shift work to increase profits and that is not what I call industry productivity changes because the customer will still get there work done either way and without any cost reduction! IF SOMEONE SEES IT DIFFERENT PLEASE SHARE!

Hello my brothers and sisters …

Hope you all had a great weekend.. And as Memorial Day dawns on us tomorrow remember those that have given so much and have  paid the ultimate price to keep us free in this great land of Ours…

My son spent 18 months in Iraq with the 1St Infantry Divison out of Vilsek Germany and during that time distinguished himself and made Staff Sgt.. He’s back home in Germany thank God, his tour ended and he will now be a D.I. at Ft Bennings  Georgia.. Sometime in Sept ..He is due home before he stars his next assignment.. Although we’re elated to have him back, We can’t help but think about all those brave young soldiers Specially from here on Long Island that won’t be coming home… As a parent I can’t begin to fathom what it would be to bury a son...and I’m glad for reasons that he only knows .. we were spared that grief. Our children are supposed to bury us.. Sometimes we’re not meant to know  why our creator does things the way he does, we however must accept it as his divine will.. While in Iraq, he sent me  a note which I think is some kind of Army Credo and I figure on this Eve of Memorial Day I’ll share it with you all..

The note had a hand drawing of the Cross Rifles and said this:…

” The crossed Rifles”

Wear these when you’re cold and all alone

Wear these when you feel like you can’t go on.

Wear these when you’re faced with a

challenge that you feel is impossible.

Wear these when your body is broken and y

ou suck it up and drive on.

Wear these and know that we give up our

freedom to protect yours.

Wear these for me dad and know that though I’m far from home.My thoughts are with you and mom always and if it be God’s will thatI die in this  place.. I do so of my own free will for God, my family and my beloved country The USA.

There’s a Latin saying that says:…

” Et dulcet e decorum pro patria mori..”

Translated it means.. it’s sweet and decorous to die for one owns country.

Some may argue as to how the atrocities of war inflicted upon either side can be sweet and decorous ..but to do one’s duty when one is called upon, secures freedom for everyone and if during said duty one’s life is required then that personal sacrifice is what defines the meaning of the word Hero, In essence a person that does what he has to do, when he’s expected to do it…REGARDLESS OF THE CONSEQUENCES…

Happy Memorial day to all….

To Ray and our entire negotiating team.. big time kudos.

Fraternally

Vinny

Good evening brothers and sisters,

Just read the recent bs, and like to express my thoughts.

Now, let me see if I read it like it says or maybe I am reading out of context or misinterepreting, but here goes. EMANY says in the second paragraph, second sentence "the withdrawal of the shift work proposal was clearly a major concession".

(Wow, great, no shift work at all. Case closed).

Next sentence, "despite this major movement, the union (us, Local #1, the negotiating team, approximately 2,800 members without doubt, absolutely, unequivically all in favor of no shift work whatsoever) remained unwilling to agree to start times after 9:00am for less than 10% of its employees.

I don't know about anybody else, but sounds like shift work to me.

So, which approximately 280 members are going to sacrifice their valuable time to accomodate these lies?????

As I read and totally agree with some of the other posts on our website supporting our proposals, We, the union, Local #1, 100% without hesitation, absolutely, unequivically, no doubt about it, back up OUR negotiating team stand to no form of shift work, flex time or any other fancy words EMANY can come up with.

Also, I can safely say the same thing HOISTING and GPS.

Respectfully,

Bill Kolln

(Chief)
