card number 1625 Comments: Just a little note about how strange life can be at times. Some years ago, Johnny O was laid off by Otis 2 days before Thanksgiving. The lay off continued through Christmas and into the New Year. As we were living paycheck to paycheck, of course, panic set in as it was the Holidays and we had 2 young children. So, we did the best we could.
Well, it's now years later and our children are grown. And guess what - whenever we reminisce about Christmas' past our kids ALWAYS say "Remember the Christmas Daddy was laid off - that was the best one!" Who knew????
HANG IN THERE.....
card number Husband Chuck's number 2204 Comments: When I met Chuck 6 years ago I had a very limited knowledge of unions and how they worked. I have had quite an education over the past few years and take a very strong interest in what goes on with my husband, his job and HIS union. I am a VERY PROUD wife of one of your union brothers. Not only am I so very proud of my husband and how strong he feels about his union values but also all his brothers/sisters in Local 1. I have been so moved by the unity, solidarity and caring amongst all Local 1 members and even those other locals throughout our country. We all need to keep these feelings going strong and we will win!!! EMANY thinks they can break us – they have a very rude awakening when they find themselves being broken down!!! Also, Ginger, you made all the wives very proud!! Stay strong and God Bless All!

Hey EMANY (you Slugs), OK, for now…you’ve got the jobs & the pay checks, and you can have my surrender when (Like my gun)… “THEY PRY IT FROM MY COLD DEAD FINGERS!”
No Brag…. Just FACT!
Good luck & GOD Bless to you all.
card number 1671 Comments: Hey All, It's been almost seven weeks, and now it's becoming obvious that we're ahead. I can't help feeling bad for EMANY, because this lock-out is gonna end up killing them, and in the long run we might be losing two giant LOCAL 1 employers. I know EMANY has had this lock-out planned for a while, but honestly, I really don't understand yet what their plan is. I think that most of the problem stems from the company CEO's not understanding what OUR jobs really entail, and what we do for the company that employs us. We understand that elevator manufacturers are in business to make money. That's their business, and if thats what makes them happy in life, then I applaud them. I, however, am a blue collar worker. What makes me happy in life is, my family, doing good deeds for others, and doing a good job for a fair wage. See, what they don't get, is that all we want is what is coming to us. No more. We don't say that when they make an extra million in profit, we want more. Just what is coming to us. It's such a simple life chain. We safely work on the equipment and professionally tend to customer needs. The customer is satisfied and pays the bill. We earn our wage, they profit. Simple. Since this lock-out occured, we as a union have gotten stronger day by day, as EMANY has weakened. You see, we are a union. Since EMANY has put our jobs on hold, we have a lot more time to unite, and have! Unfortunately for EMANY, they're falling apart. We have visited with our building managers. Things are bad. At our Otis Safety Stand-down meetings, we were shown a statistic pyramid, where a number of accidents would pre-destine a fatality. Well if we use this pyramid now, a fatality or a disaster is due. If not for the riding public, then for one of the "salaried professionals" working on the equipment. None of us, god forbid, want to see that happen. So lets stop playing games, because or profession isn't a game, and get us back to our jobs. Remember the motto "1st in Safety"? To all the "salaried professionals" working on the equipment, remember that each day this lock-out continues, you might be working yourself out of a job. It's simple logic. The more things fall apart, the more work EMANY is likely to lose. When they lose work, where is the demand for you? I mean, lets get real. This lock-out affects you as well as LOCAL 1 employees. As I stated before, we are union. When times get tough we unite and get strong. EMANY is a group of manufacturers who would sell each other out to make a profit. They are losing the respect of their LOCAL 1 employees, and their customers. You, as their "salaried professional", must be aware of this. Lets stop all this nonsense and get back to work. Come on, its a simple life chain. To Brother Ray Hernandez and all our officials, thank you for all your efforts. To all our other locals, thank you for your support. To EMANY, its simple, for all our sakes, LETS GET BACK!

card number 1531 Comments: To all the wives:
I to was very furious when I read that propaganda letter. So upset that I called Mr. Lauterbach, vice president of Otis. I left a message with his secretary to have him call me back. Knowing that he would never take the time to call me back. Much to my surprise he called me back. I expressed to him my dissapointment and EMANY's utter disregard for all of our husbands. I explained to him that this whole situation was their fault. How dare he send this letter of lies. I spoke to him for about 20 minutes. He expressed to me his feelings of how he wanted "his" men back to work with a fair contract. He also wished that EMANY would meet more often. He "promised" me he would get them back to work soon. I told him I will hold him to his promise. I will be following that up with a phone call next week.
Keep your chins up we're going to win this. I am so proud of these men of Local 1. They are doing a great job. I also told him to forget the shift work. Because that is a lifestyle change. I have two small children, sir, that is just not reasonable. I asked him if he was going to give back in his salary like they want us to. But there was no answer. I then stated, Oh that's right you have been getting a pay check so you possibly couldn't understand what we are going through.
I hope I did the wives well. Maybe you all should give him a call. His phone and e-mail is right on the letter.

card number 25441 Comments: hey brothers n sistas
before I start my rant I want to give a big shout out to our negotiating committee what a great job you guys are doing we are behind you all the way.
now here we go. I was just looking at that stupid chart that mother is making $120 an hour made up and im wondering what it would look like if he tallied up all the hours of overtime we would lose if we had shift work. or all the time we would lose if we lost our hoisting rights. it would be hundreds of times bigger than this *&# came up with.
also this goes out to that gas pumping prick at newark airport, his name if you dont know is bob gallagher. i cant wait till this is over and your stupid ass gets laid off. kone is losing job after job and they wont need you anymore so get back to pumping.
lets all stick together its obvious what they are trying to do now. and thats chip away at our moral. they think they can print some bull on there web site and turn us against our leadership. because they cant stand that we are all together and standing strong. these little &*%# have never been apart of something as wonderful as a union. all for one and one for all. they just know stabb everyone in the back and make them think you are there friend while you do it. we will win because they suck and we dont. later
card number 102830 Comments: I read with great interest the letter from the president of Local 1. He stated that a union member had their truck parked for 30 some days and no one called to see if he was o.k. My story (facts) are the opposite. On 1-28-05 at 3:35 p.m. My phone was tracked with GPS. I was not on call and was not working. They found me on my own time. Well ,they did it again. On 5-1-05 at 3:00 p.m. my phone was tracked using GPS. That is a Sunday. I was not on call or working. I was not even asked to read training material on my own time because my boss is in NY somewhere. Maybe they wanted to know what church I was going to or find my secret fishing hole. Safety is what they say! mmmmmmmmmm Keep fighting union brothers, its all bull!

card number 1671 Comments: Hi everyone,
First I just wanted to say to Mrs. Mancini, WOW what a WONDERFUL letter. I, myself could not have written such a GREAT letter.
How many letters have all the "VALUED" employees of these 3 locked out EMANY companies of the Local 1 Union Members received. They all start out with the VALUED employee bullcrap. In my eyes if you are all so valued why have you been locked out (or in my eyes) kicked aside. The last letter was a kick that my husband received from his "employer" Otis Elevator. We want you back immediately. What does that word mean. They should not be needing to say that in the first place, because it should NEVER have happened.
How has anyone survived these past 7 weeks without that paycheck coming in. My husband is the "bread winner" in my house. I am sure that all the EMANY employees are not having any difficulty in that field, as they are all still getting their paycheck. We all have to ask ourselves though for how much longer. I think it is safe to say that the customers are not paying their bills (and rightfully so). They are by NO means getting the service they pay for and are SO used to.
To EMANY, grow up and act like men/women for a change. By you doing what you have done you are just making this union stronger and stronger.
In my opinion I believe that all this bullcrap will be coming to an end soon (or so I hope....) Why do you ask this? Lets think about it for a minute. This Thursday as well all know will be week 7 (49 days). This is when all NY employees will be eligible for collecting unemployment (Sadly NJ employees are not). EMANY wanted to screw their employees, so this is why I am thinking this way. I hope I am right.
This lockout has made all the Local 1 brothers and sisters stronger then ever. They have paved the way for all the other locals around the country. We all have to be very proud that they are fighting for what they believe in ( I know I am of my husband)
To all the Local 1 members and their families. God Bless you all and keep fighting the fight.
YOU WILL PREVAIL!!!!

card number 2346 Comments: I was just watching the news on channel 4 and they did a story about the rent increases the landlords want for rent stabilized apartments. Towards the end the did a breakdown of all the increases in costs to the landlords over the years. Wanna know what labor was?? 3 and a half percent!!!!!! It was number four on the list. Fuel was number 1 at 20 percent. Just goes to show you how full of crap EMANY is about how overpaid we are for what we do. We are the LEAST of the problems for the landlords and owners!!!!!!!! Keep up the fight brothers and sisters and eventually EMANY will have to stop believing in the garbage they're trying to shovel down our throats.....
card number 2881 Comments: To mrs. manciniYou took the words right out of my mouth!( and probably the rest of local1)YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!I believe ENAMY needs to read that letter on behalf of all of Local 1 and its famlies and see what they are doing to us.Stay STRONG LOCAL 1, there are lots of angry(pissed off) wives that stand along side their husbands and fight the fight.(I'm one of them)hang in there Together We will prevail!!!..............Proud wife of union member Chris Graf
card number 2130 Comments: Here is a copy of the letter I sent to my New York State Senator and Assemblywoman regarding the "Elevator Safety Bill."
Dear Sir,
I urge your support of Bill S4672/A07433, the Elevator Safety Bill. This bill would ensure uniform minimum standards of competency in the fields of elevator construction and service in New York State. As I am sure you are aware, many skilled trades in New York require licensing. This bill would serve to help protect the riding public and the men and woman who perform this work. I am a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local One. I have been an ‘Elevator Man’ for almost twenty years. Currently many of the members of Local One, IUEC are being Locked Out by their employers over a contract negotiating dispute. These employers have replaced their Locked Out employees with engineers, managers, and sales staff with no field experience; supervisors who left the field many years ago and are no longer current in their knowledge of elevator systems or codes; and have hired non-union employees and companies to support them. Passage of this bill would help to ensure the safety of the people of New York that ride on the elevator, escalators, and moving walks that are currently being maintained by less than fully qualified workers. Thank you for your attention in this matter and I hope I can thank you for your support.
Sincerely, Matthew Labriola
All members (locked out or working) keep doing all you can to support our union officers and all who are working hard to bring this lock out to a satisfactory conclusion.
card number 2358 Comments: FYI UPDATE-APRIL 28,2005 1)MANY EMPLOYEES HAVE ASKED EMANY WHY THERE IS NO AGREEMENT. 1A)SORRY,BUT I DONT THINK LOCAL1 MEMBERS CALL EMANY FOR CONTRACT UPDATES. 2)EMANY CONTINUES TO NEGOTIATE IN GOOD FAITH/FAIR AND EQUITABLE CONTRACT. 2A) WHEN IT COMES TO ORGANIZED AND UNIFIED LOCAL 1 MEMBERS, EMANY HAS NEVER ACTED IN GOOD FAITH, WAS NEVER FAIR AND EQUITABLE BEFORE MARCH17 OR SINCE THEN. 3)LOCAL 1 NEGOTIATORS HAVE WASTED VALUABLE TIME BY REFUSING MEANINGFUL PROPOSALS. 3A)SORRY, THE WORD MEANINGFUL WAS PUT IN BY ERROR, THE CORRECT WORD IS ONE SIDED. 4)EMANY WANTS YOU TO KNOW WHAT IS KEEPING US FROM GETTING BACK TO WORK. 4A) AND I QUOTE" WE LOCKED YOU OUT" 4AA) GEE, THANKS FOR CLARIFYING WHAT TRULY HAS TAKEN PLACE HERE. I NOW REALLY FEEL THAT I WORKED FOR A BUNCH OF ASS CLOWNS ALL THIS TIME. 5)YOUR LOCAL 1 NEGOTIATORS ARE KEEPING YOU OUT OF WORK. 5A) OUR NEGOTIATORS ARE IN FACT OUR LEADERS, OUR BOSSES AND PART OF OUR FAMILY.UNDERSTAND WE GAVE OUR LEADERS A MESSAGE FOR EMANY. WE ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT EMANY GOT THAT MESSAGE. 6)CRITICAL ISSUES LIKE WAGES,HOISTING, SHIFT WORK AND GPS, LOCAL 1 PROPOSALS ARE REGRESSIVE, IMPRACTICAL AND DO NOT ADDRESS INDUSTRY CONCERNS. 6A) YOUR DAMNED RIGHT THEY ARE CRITICAL ISSUES. YOUR WAGE PROPOSALS ARE REGRESSIVE, YOUR HOISTING PROPOSAL IS IMPRACTICAL, SHIFTWORK AND GPS DO NOT ADDRESS INDUSTRY CONCERNS. 7)LOCAL 1 UNREALISTIC DEMANDS AND UNWILLINGNESS TO HAVE PRODUCTIVE MEETINGS WILL HAVE REAL CONSEQUENCES. 7A)EMANY IS UNREALISTIC,AS FAR AS LONG AND SHORT TERM CONSEQUENCES ARE CONCERNED EMANY AGAIN HAS ACHIEVED TO CREATE A RUNAWAY TRAIN THAT THEY CANT HANDLE. 8)YOU HAVE ALREADY LOST THE 7% WAGE AND BENEFIT INCREASE THAT BOTH EMANY AND LOCAL1 PROPOSALS WOULD HAVE GIVEN YOU. 8A)WOW, YOU GUYS REALLY FIGURED THIS ONE OUT. I AM IMPRESSED BUT JUST EXPLAIN TO ME HOW 7% TIMES 3YEARS IN A 5 YEAR CONTRACT EQUALS 22.5%. FURTHER MORE IN CASE IT MIGHT HAVE SLIPPED YOUR MIND, EMANY SHUT THE DOORS IN OUR FACES AND FAMILIES. SAFETY SHOULD BE THE NUMBER1 INDUSTRY CONCERN AND IF IT WERE TRULY A CONCERN WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTINUE TO WORK WHILE A FAIR CONTRACT COULD BE AGREED UPON. 9)THE CURRENT STALEMATE CREATES OPPORTUNITY FOR THE NON-UNION AND LOCAL THREE COMPETITORS. 9A) BACK IN EARLY NEGOTIATIONS OF THIS YEAR, A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE BY THE NAME OF RAY HERNANDEZ TOLD THE UNION MEMBERSHIP THAT A WEEKLY PAYROLL DEDUCTION FOR A PAC FUND WAS NEEDED, AND ITS SOLE PURPOSE WAS TO COMBAT CONCERNS OF THE NON-UNION AND LOCAL THREE THREAT. I ALSO REMEMBER THE ANSWER THAT EMANY GAVE TO RAY HERNANDEZ AND THAT WAS IT WAS OF NO CONCERN OR INTREST TO THEM. AMAZING HOW NOW IT MUST BE A CONCERN BECAUSE LOCAL 1 MEMBERS ARE NOT THERE TO PROTECT YOUR ASSETS.
REMEMBER 1 THING BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF THIS GREAT UNION OF 1, LOCAL 1- TIME IS ON OUR SIDE AND EMANY- YOUR RIGHT THIS ISN'T A F*****G GAME, ITS NOT A F*****G HOBBY OF OURS EITHER. THIS IS WHAT WE DO FOR A LIVING, TO SUPPORT OUR FAMILIES, TO ENJOY OUR FAMILIES AND ENJOY THE THINGS IN LIFE THAT SOULLESS AND SPINELESS SCABS COULD NOT IMAGINE. WITH THAT SAID , I WILL BE ENJOYING AND SPENDING TIME WITH MY ALMOST THREE YEAR OLD SON -TEACHING HIM HOW TO URINATE AND DEFACATE IN THE POTTY. WISH ME LUCK(WITH MY SON OF COURSE).
card number 1502 Comments: John, you are married to a Gem named Mary!!!! You are truly a luckey guy!!!! Fraternally; Dan. Keep the faith, brothers and sisters!!!
card number 1179 Comments: Dear Brothers & Sisters:
EMANY and OTIS have hired non union unskilled workers to do gen brushes and do repair jobs. The balls of them to say they are losing work to Non union shops. They have hired scabs non union shops and men off the street to do work for them. These dumb supers can't even change a brush or do a Hoist rope shorting. Stay strong Brothers & Sisters. These supers are about to fall apart. They did not become supers to do work and long hours. They want to be on the golf course or their boats during working hours. We will win, We are right. Stay Strong. Tough times don't last, but Tough people do. NEVER FORGET THIS.
Brother Tom Moore, Local One
card number 2339 Comments: Re:Letter from emany LOCAL 1 is not the Boogie man, that emany states we know this because we have a tentative FAIR contract signed. If Fuji, Thyssen, and the Independents can agree to it, they can too! Lets ratify this contract and HURT them as they have hurt us and our families! We will then not have to receive anymore B******T letters about the items that need not be in there so called good faith agreement!
card number 2204 Comments: Hey, all you SCABS out there! You are, so called working, on those elevators/escalators. What you don't think about is that the first time someone riding an elevator/escalator gets hurt or, God forbid, dies, guess who is going down for it? It certainly won't be the company - IT WILL BE YOU - WHOEVER LAST "WORKED" ON THE EQUIPMENT!! I know from friends of mine who have gone through depositions for injuries that it is no picnic. The lawyers will have every single piece of record for that equipment. They will want to know from you the maintenance schedule and how well it has been maintained and what kind of problems there have been and how they were taken care of. They will want your technical education, experience and what makes you qualified to work on these elevators/escalators!! And, believe me, if something like this were to happen, you will be ON YOUR OWN - the COMPANY WILL NOT HAVE YOUR BACK ON ANYTHING. They will point the finger at you so fast your head will spin. You are risking loosing everything - your home, possessions, careers, money - and even going to jail!!!
Just giving you SCABS a little something to think about!!!! |
