  To Mrs.Mary Mancini,

just wanted to thank you for the letter you submitted,I absolutly laughed my ass off!

along with a great sense of humor, you articulated[looked that up in the online dictionary you refered to}your points brillantly.

unfortunatly, all the online dictionarys in the world will never help these ass#!&*$ at emany.

They will never understand some of the words you used like...PRIDE...HONOR...FAIR.

The only words they seem to understand are...greed...more...profit...$$$$.

  Anyway,thanks again for the laugh.

   STAY STRONG.

      Respectfully submitted,

To all you Otis employees who received their recent company communications regarding their sympathy for the plight of their locked-out employees...talk about crocodile tears!! An Otis Supervisor was recently gloating about the fact that New Jersey employees are being denied unemployment benefits. She actually had the nerve to smirk and brag about how EMANY lawyers are able to make sure the law works in their favor. This same NYC downtown supervisor, when greeted by a Local 1 employee with a polite, "How are you doing?", responded with a smug, "Obviously a lot better than you are." Yessir, it sure is obvious that Otis is just dripping with caring and sympathy for their locked-out employees. It seems obvious that this anti-union branch of United Technology is dripping with care and sympathy for its well-paid Board, not the workers that make Otis possible. Why do corporations feel that the guys swinging their pencils are so much more valuable than the guys that provide the service the company is paid to provide.
I am a second-generation Local 1 family member. My father, uncle, brothers and husband have all been Local 1 members. I remember strikes in my father's past that were a lot less mean-spirited than the corporate sttitude today. So please, EMANY, stop trying to insult our intelligence...your interest is not in a fair wage for your employees or safe service for your customers...you care only for your corporate profits and the golden parachutes available to your executives.

One Wife’s response to EMANY’s Update of 4/28

It IS Time for a New Contract

Local One Negotiators ARE Real About the Issues

Time for EMANY to Catch Up

It has now been almost seven weeks since the current labor contract expired.  Employees are asking YOU why no agreement has been reached?   That is amusing.  Nobody told me that you guys were jokesters.  Local 1 continues to negotiate in good faith to secure an equitable contract for our members.  Our negotiators are willing to meet with you every day.  Valuable time IS being wasted.  Are you afraid your golf games will suffer if you negotiate more than two days a week?

We would like you to know that we are so appreciative of the fact that you wish to help us understand exactly what is keeping us from getting back to work.  You guys are swell.

We are well aware of the fact that you initiated the lock out of your union-represented employees.  We were/are willing to work until a fair contract was/is reached.   YOU made the decision not to let us work.  Our Union President speaks for all of us. He is a fair and honorable man.  We are quite certain that he, more than anyone, wishes to negotiate a reasonable agreement.  Are you aware of the definition of the word reasonable?  There is such a thing now as an online dictionary.  Perhaps that could aid you?

This is not a game.  Interesting point you make.  Even more interesting is the fact that you took company vans from our men on the same day we won the annuity fund arbitration.  To the untrained eye, that would almost seem like some kind of attempt to play a trump card.   Thanks for clearing it up for those of us who might have been unable to read it correctly.

Personally, I loved the chart.  Take you long to figure out?  Hope your statisticians didn’t charge you much because we could have helped you there.  We are more than aware of what it is costing us.   What is it costing you?

Cost of housing and feeding unskilled workers

Travel costs of above unskilled workers

Lost time with their families

Cost of hiring guards for said unskilled workers

Cost of “re-fixing” already fixed equipment when skilled workers are back on the job

Medical expenses for unskilled workers who can’t perform the jobs asked of them

Lost jobs

Loss of employee loyalty

I believe your loses may be incalculable.  May I borrow your statisticians?  I’m guessing you may not go for that.  That’s okay.  I don’t really need to know.  What I do know is more important.  I am proud of my husband for the stand that he is taking.  I am proud of him for picketing.  He is a strong and wonderful man.  My family has pulled closer together in order to get through what could be an extremely difficult financial time.  My children are doing without, and they continue to smile and support their father in every possible way.  I have discovered I have friends and family who will be there if I need them.  I am proud of our Union President and negotiators.  I am proud of my husband’s co-picketers and their families.  Life is good.

What about you?  Families embarrassed?  Children unable to speak of their fathers with pride? Wives disappointed by what their husbands are doing?  When all is said and done, these things are much more important, wouldn’t you agree?   My children can do without a new pair of jeans, or desserts on the table.  I can sell my belongings and live within my means if it should come to that.  Can you continue to live your lives with your loved ones being unable to look you in the eye?  If you are comfortable with that, more power to you I guess.

My husband has a saying, “What comes around, goes around.”  I finally understand it!   In years to come, if you find yourself in this situation, please think of us.

And what about all you non-Local One employees?  What will happen to you as the EMANY companies lose jobs?  Think you’ll all still be as important to them?  My husband had been referred to as a valuable employee.  Nice to see how they treat employees of value.  I would watch my backs if I were all of you.  I can sense down-sizing coming in the not-to-distant future.  Have they promised you that your job is safe?  Well good for you then.  At least they are  companies you can trust!

Local One employees want to go back to work.  They want a fair and reasonable agreement.   I cannot imagine how EMANY companies will ever receive any type of loyalty from any employees again, be they Local One members or not.  How can an employee work for a company they know is willing to try to hurt them the first chance they get?   By locking us out, you proved you really didn’t care about any of us.  Employee loyalty is an important thing.  Sorry, but I don’t see that in your future.

Our negotiators will come to the next session prepared to offer realistic proposals to address the issues that continue to cost Local 1 members money.   Will EMANY negotiators do the same?  Will they come to the table prepared to resolve issues that are costing their members something more important, namely, pride?  You are right.  Negotiating in good faith does mean a great deal more than just showing up at the bargaining table.  How about skipping golf one day a week and giving it to us?  Working three days a week, perhaps we can accomplish more?  I’d suggest four days a week, but I wouldn’t want to hurt anyone’s handicap.

DISCLAIMER:   The statements above are the views of the author and are not necessarily fact-based and do not represent Local One members or negotiators.  Just an aggravated wife trying to make a point.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
There are few better ways to get our point across then to go to the places where our voices can be heard, come on lets face it do we really think these fat cat cowards from EMANY really care if we survive or not...you know where we at least stand a chance? with our Congress men and woman, our Senators and our local Assembly people, and just a short note explaining that the bill to certify us is a necessary step in protecting the riding public, do not drag them into our fight for a living wage but to emphasize that this is for safety sake and that we are considered a skilled trade and that the state should know who is fixing such complex and potentially dangerous equipment, I mean really EMANY has asked a group of former field employees and a hand full of engineers, and yes salesmen! to brush up on fixing these complex devises, funny how my former company used to send me to training to work on these same complex devises and now they are being held together by men who would "troubleshoot " over the phone with me and I recall rolling my eyes thinking "stick to your paper work " what a sight huh!!! well please I implore you, take a cue from the other posting that lists your local politicians info and write to them, lets put the pressure where we can see the results, Heaven knows you've got nothing to lose and let me tell you there is something empowering about writing to "my" congressman, well like my old Mechanic would say JUST DO SOMETHING !!! real Solidarity is EMANYs biggest fear. Stay Strong!

Brothers & Sisters

It is far from a secret that Jimmy Walker and his Emany lackies promised the companies that they would block our annuity money and make us pay the maxium for health care. But thanks to the undying loyalty of our elected officials and the hearts and pride of every brother & sister in this union and the good sense of a fair arbitrator this did not happen. There is a special place in hell for Jimmy Walker and his Emany weasels. But let's hope these decisions let the little midget grab his chest and get there alot faster!!!!

Yours and solidarity,

Brothers and Sisters,

During this lock out it has become quite apparent that EMANY is out to screw us. From the beginning we have been honest with our customers and the public while EMANY lies to both their customers and the public. We must continue to show our presence, educate our customers and never get discouraged. We have shown that we are united in our quest for a decent contract. We must continue to support Brother Hernandez and the rest of our elected officials. They have a difficult task but with our support and their dedication we will WIN this battle. Stay involved with your fellow brothers and sisters and remember there is no UNION without U and I.         Kevin Berry

Here's the info about health insurance coverage for the "uninsured" in NYS:

Welcome to Healthy NY

Coverage for Eligible Small Businesses, Sole Proprietors and Individuals

Healthy NY Consumer Guide
("PDF" FORMAT - requires Acrobat Reader)

The State of New York is committed to quality health care for all of its residents. In 2000, Governor George E. Pataki proposed, and the Legislature enacted, important legislation that has increased the availability of comprehensive health insurance coverage for New York’s uninsured workers and their families. The Health Care Reform Act of 2000 introduced a program entitled "Healthy NY" which promotes access to quality health care by providing comprehensive health insurance to those citizens who need it most.

The Healthy NY program is designed to assist small business owners in providing their employees and their employees’ families with the health insurance they need and deserve. In addition, uninsured sole proprietors and workers whose employers do not provide health insurance may also purchase comprehensive coverage directly through the Healthy NY program.

Overview – Healthy NY Objective

Healthy NY is a unique program designed to encourage small employers with 50 or fewer employees to offer health insurance coverage to their employees, dependents, and other qualified individuals. Healthy NY is also available to eligible working uninsured individuals including sole proprietors. With this program, eligible individuals can purchase the streamlined benefits packages that are available to employees of small businesses participating in the Healthy NY small business insurance program. The program creates standardized health insurance benefit packages that are offered by all health maintenance organizations (HMOs) in New York State. These packages are made more affordable through State sponsorship, so that more uninsured small employers and uninsured employed individuals are able to purchase health insurance coverage.

All HMOs in New York State offer the streamlined, yet comprehensive Healthy NY health insurance benefit packages to eligible businesses and individuals. Healthy NY includes health benefits that cover essential health needs including inpatient and outpatient hospital services, physician services, maternity care, preventative health services, diagnostic and x-ray services, and emergency services. Applicants may now choose a benefit package with a limited prescription drug benefit or a benefit package without a prescription drug benefit.

Although Healthy NY is available to small employers, sole proprietors, and uninsured working individuals, each group has its own set of eligibility criteria and participation rules. It is suggested when using this site that you first determine which category you fall into based upon your own personal circumstance. Once you have identified your category, you may then proceed to the appropriate heading to review the applicable rules and criteria.

Healthy NY and Students

For students who are aging off their parent’s policy when they are graduating from high school or college, Healthy NY may meet the student’s needs for health insurance coverage.

Students must meet the eligibility guidelines of the program, but they do not have to include their parents’ income in their household income. They are only required to include their income and income of a spouse whom they reside with, if applicable.

To learn more about eligibility requirements for individuals, please select the "Eligibility Criteria" button in the main navigation bar above, and then select "Individuals" on the Eligibility Criteria Index page!

Brothers & Sisters:

On March 17 a bully called EMANY cold cocked us when we weren't looking. They slip away from the table and locked our members out. We were bloody, down on one knee and maybe had a couple of teeth loose.

But we stood up and we will continue to stand up together.

Our labor leaders fought and won our cases.

We will win this as long as we stick together.

Never forget this.

Never let them forget this.

I heard that some of the scum supers that are  working are telling the guys, the company will not forget who broke there balls during this lockout.

We will never forget who worked while my brothers & sister did without.

Local One, will be still standing after this is over.

We are right in this fight.

Go to church Sunday and pray for our dead fathers who fought for what we have today. Take a look at your kids as you kiss them goodnight. We tell our kids to punch the bully in the jaw when he bullies you. Well my Brothers & Sisters, I'm telling you punch the bullying right in his  mouth and let him know we will not stop fighting for whats right.

Failure is not an option.

Tough times don't last, but tough people do.

The buildings on 42 street are about to get ready for elevator men & women soon. We will be back on top soon.

Be Brave.

Why are we still trying to negotiate with Emany? They don't want to sign on at 7,7,7 so be it. Move on. Every mechanic call your buildings, and get them to change companies. Many Mechanics remain loyal to their companies, but this isn't about loyalty. I didn't quit Schindler after 20 years with them- "Schindler" sent me home without a job. They could've had us work while they negotiated, like we've done in the past. They chose to not pay us. They chose to block unemployment, so that we couldn't feed our families. They chose to vote against us taking our OWN money, from our OWN 401k plan, to further hurt us all. Then the absolute final statement in just how worthless an Elevator Mechanic really is to them- they didn't even pick up the medical for our children. These companies are run by worthless cowards. It will be difficult to ever look any of them in the face again.  These companies are so full of themselves but, if they have no work force, and no one will work for them, maybe they'll do us all a favor, and leave New York. All you resident Mechanics, and you (several mechanic) crews get together, and bring your buildings to any of the signed companies. Let Emany rot. The Developers that support them ( Trump, Brodsky,etc.. ) Will build buildings with, or without "EMANY" It's nice to know that with all the jobs Emany's losing. When the smoke clears. Some of the very super's that are so willing to take food off our tables. Will be laid off, because of the lost jobs. Good luck getting your cards back . . .
