card number 250 Comments: Greetings,
Sent this article to Labornet Website to spread our dilemma. Click on the website.http://citylimits.org/content/articles/weeklyView.cfm?articlenumber=1695 Proud to be a union wife-hang in there guys!
card number 82371 Comments: Thank you to the Brothers and Sisters at the Marriott. If we have this kind of support, we can overcome whatever comes our way! It is a sad fact that the riding public has no clue that they are putting their lives in the hands of people who are used to doing clerical work more so then working on elevators and escalators. The New York City Fire Department have much more important things to do then get people out of stuck cars, but thank God they are there, at least someone out there has experience enough to help the public who are putting their lives at risk every time they hit that car call!!!
card number 108338 Comments: Dear Brothers & Sisters. Local 1 you are leading the way for the rest of us ! Thanks for all you have done , keep up the great work, stay strong, stay proud !!

whatever your constitution says!!! We need to change our constitution for the next time and the International better get ready. Stay Strong. Brother Tom Moore, Local One,
http://www.nlpc.org/view.asp?action=viewArticle&aid=623 COMMUNICATIONS WORKERS (CWA) Hand-Picked Union Court Fines Employees Who Worked during OH Strike A clerical worker who crossed the picket line during last year's strike at the Summit County, Ohio, Children Serv. Bd. (CSB) has been found guilty in a union trial and fined $27,496.65. Almondine Poole is one of 38 crossers who stood trial over the past two Saturdays. All the defendants have been found guilty and fines range from $3,000 to $39,000, based on salary and overtime earned during the five-month strike.
Labor experts say the fines probably are enforceable in civil court. "You have to abide by whatever your constitution says. We laugh at that, but the same thing can happen at the country club," said John Russo, coordinator of the labor studies program at Youngstown State University. "The same thing happens at churches and religious organizations. You can be brought up on charges." [Russo apparently did not give any examples of ex-church members having fines enforced against them in court.]
Officials of Local 4546 of the Communications Wrkrs. of America picked the jury of union members, the trial administrator and the prosecutor from among its members. Defendants could choose their representative, but only if the advocate was a union member in good standing. Of the 100-plus people who crossed the picket line to work, some were probationary workers and excused from striking, and others withdrew their memberships before the strike began. The union charged only those who were still members when they crossed, said Local Pres. Robin Schenault.
Social worker Dan Gear, who volunteered to be the court chairman – or judge, admitted that to an outsider, the process would appear to be stacked in favor of the union. "I think that the jury has been very fair and set aside their personal issue" Gear said. "This is internal union business being handled internally." [Akron Beacon-Journal, 8/30/04]
card number 1347 Comments: Hello brothers and sisters just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading that letter to newspaper, written by card holder Nancy Mahl WAY TO GO!!! We will continue to educate the public. Being hearing alot of Firefighters and Police and EMTS & Port Authority cops are spending alot of their valuable time removing people from entrapments. Spoke to someone directly this afternoon at Port Authority, they are very unhappy. He asked me WHY DID SCHINDLER LOCK US OUT? Thats a good question I told him, I dont really know why. We were ready to continue working. WE were ready to service and maintain our equipment .We were willing to take care of our customers . We are trained , qualified and willing . Why then did EMANY lock us out? After I received my 401 statement from UTC, its pretty obvious . Its called corporate greed! I read an apalling article in todays Newsday APRIL 12TH 2005 regarding the CEOS and how much money they continue to steal off the backs of the working families in the United States. Stay involved in your local areas . Vote and support your local County and State Labor Friendly Politicians!!! If you dont get involved in whats going on here in America U ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM , NOT THE SOLUTION! We will continue to educate the riding public of the true facts! We will continue to peacefully picket and demonstate to our customers. After all their safety is at risk .Please check with your shop stewards and find out where you can go? Ask him morning, noon and night , what can I can do. Also for the brothers and sisters who are holding the picket lines out there . Whether its here on Long Island NYC or NJ keep up the great work . WE WILL PREVAIL! LOCAL 1 is here to stay GOD BLESS. RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED BROTHER BRIAN LINK aka Captain America . BIG RALLY THURSDAY IN NYC also tommorrow at UTC general shareholders meeting . As for our officers and stewards, THANKS for all you do brothers .BIG SHOUT OUT TO BROTHER BOB STORK!!!!! HE HAS BEEN OUT THERE 24/7 in Queens , Brooklyn, & Long Island. card number 8574 Comments: From: nmahl@comcast.net Subject: Elevators Date: April 12, 2005 5:39:23 PM EDT To: letters@nytimes.com re: Please Get Me Out of Here By COLIN HARRISON Published: April 10, 2005 To the Editor: Mr. Harrison's meditation on the plight of Mr. Chen, who was stuck in an elevator for 3 days last week was most evocative and timely. The likelihood of experiencing an elevator mishap in New York has increased exponentially over the past four weeks. Although more than thirty IUEC Local 1 companies are currently maintaining and repairing elevators in New York and New Jersey, three companies (Otis, Schindler, and Kone) that handle many of our city's premier buildings have not allowed a qualified mechanic (one who has a minimum five years training and experience) to touch an elevator since March 17. The burden of answering entrapment calls now falls to the New York City Fire Department, who already have more than enough responsibility. Train stations, airports, major hotels, hospitals, and thousands of business and residential elevators and escalators are being 'repaired' by accountants, secretaries, stock boys, sales people, and similar unqualified personnel. It is a testament to the quality of Local 1's previous work that enough elevators remain in service to keep the city running. Sincerely, Nancy Mahl Maintenance Mechanic, IUEC Local 1

card number 86455 Comments: While informing the riding public by handing out flyers this morning at 41 Madison Avenue, we were approached by the building manager. We informed the building manager of the current lock out situation with Schindler Elevator Co. and the building manager was shocked.
There is a large expo showing of China, Crystal and other dining items this week throughtout the coming weekend. We are planning on manning this site the entire week, as we were able to not only inform several key building personnel but to also turn away several deliveries crucial to the show. We need as many people this week to come down and inform even more individuals.
Please inform strike captains in the downtown area if you are able to attend this site anytime this week. They will be able to schedule the best and most effective times.
Stay Strong, Keep up the good work informing everyone.
Mario

Thanks to the hard work of all Brothers & Sisters. Mike Halpin ,Bro Bob Stork and all who showed up not leaving out my bro Glen and the solidarity from Laborers Local 79 , Local 6 and the teamsters.
One of the off-duty/cop/ security scumers after sensing the pressure came over to ask what was the dispute all about? So I explained to him the Lock out situation and the out-of-towner's/SCABS which he is escorting are doing our jobs.
He told me that after today he is out, He said to me that tongue lashing from that Sister it did it for him. Some of you may know which sister I talking about. Keep it up sister you made a difference today, your impact was tremendous.
Data shows U.S. workers are getting pay-cut, while corporate profits hit record highs.
