Hello Local 1.  As a member of the Local 10 Washington D.C. bus trip today I would like to thank all of the Local 1 members for their tremendous welcome we received when we arrived.  We could not be more proud to stand in that picket line today and help fight for the cause with our Brothers and Sisters.  Hope to see you guys soon and under much better circumstances.  Always remember United We Stand - Divided We Beg!  Stay Strong!

THROUGH A GLASS, DARKLY

Through the travail of the ages,

Midst the pomp and toil of war,

Have I fought and strove and perished

Countless times upon this star.

In the form of many people

In all panoplies of time

Have I seen the luring vision

Of the Victory Maid, sublime.

I have battled for fresh mammoth,

I have warred for pastures new,

I have listed to the whispers

When the race trek instinct grew.

I have known the call to battle

In each changeless changing shape

From the high souled voice of conscience

To the beastly lust for rape.

I have sinned and I have suffered,

Played the hero and the knave;

Fought for belly, shame, or country,

And for each have found a grave.

I cannot name my battles

For the visions are not clear,

Yet, I see the twisted faces

And I feel the rending spear.

Perhaps I stabbed our Savior

In His sacred helpless side.

Yet, I've called His name in blessing

When after times I died.

In the dimness of the shadows

Where we hairy heathens warred,

I can taste in thought the lifeblood;

We used teeth before the sword.

While in later clearer vision

I can sense the coppery sweat,

Feel the pikes grow wet and slippery

When our Phalanx, Cyrus met.

Hear the rattle of the harness

Where the Persian darts bounced clear,

See their chariots wheel in panic

From the Hoplite's leveled spear.

See the goal grow monthly longer,

Reaching for the walls of Tyre.

Hear the crash of tons of granite,

Smell the quenchless eastern fire.

Still more clearly as a Roman,

Can I see the Legion close,

As our third rank moved in forward

And the short sword found our foes.

Once again I feel the anguish

Of that blistering treeless plain

When the Parthian showered death bolts,

And our discipline was in vain.

I remember all the suffering

Of those arrows in my neck.

Yet, I stabbed a grinning savage

As I died upon my back.

Once again I smell the heat sparks

When my flemish plate gave way

And the lance ripped through my entrails

As on Crecy's field I lay.

In the windless, blinding stillness

Of the glittering tropic sea

I can see the bubbles rising

Where we set the captives free.

Midst the spume of half a tempest

I have heard the bulwarks go

When the crashing, point blank round shot

Sent destruction to our foe.

I have fought with gun and cutlass

On the red and slippery deck

With all Hell aflame within me

And a rope around my neck.

And still later as a General

Have I galloped with Murat

When we laughed at death and numbers

Trusting in the Emperor's Star.

Till at last our star faded,

And we shouted to our doom

Where the sunken road of Ohein

Closed us in it's quivering gloom.

So but now with Tanks a'clatter

Have I waddled on the foe

Belching death at twenty paces,

By the star shell's ghastly glow.

So as through a glass, and darkly

The age long strife I see

Where I fought in many guises,

Many names, -- but always me.

And I see not in my blindness

What the objects were I wrought,

But as God rules o'er our bickerings

It was through His will I fought.

So forever in the future,

Shall I battle as of yore,

Dying to be born a fighter,

But to die again, once more.

during my first days in the trade in 1981 at the 75, i was sent to run a car for some ironheads setting fronts.
they kept telling me how important it was for all union members to stick together. if what i hear from some local 1 members that i worked with back then is true, i have only this to say;
#1 - nypd - if you escort scabs, you are a scab,
#2 - operating engineers - if you are running false cars, you are a scab as well as a thief,
#3 - nyfd - if you must rescue people out of a trapped cars, please use the jaws of life.
IN UNION THERE IS STRENGTH!

Did anyone call the Jersey newspapers about Wednesday's picket? The Star Ledger and Daily Record of Morris County would be prime press for the cause.

It is such a sad time for local one members who recently worked for otis kone and swindler, myself included but today i was so moved by the local one bag pipers and local 10 and 4...........you guys rock.I  have been out there daily holding the line along side my brothers and sisters, there are still some faces I do not see and it upsets me but to those who are there ,many of you have busted your butts for otis  ,gone above and beyond your call of duty, its in your charactor to be that way ,you are all probably great neighbors to people but if  and when we get back I hope you now realize we are just numbers ,they dont care how smart or how available you are.To them its about charts and graphs.julia roberts  and tom cruise can make 2o million for reading a script and looking good , and some otis shmuck who sharpens pencils  gets a bonus for figuring out how to save a buck by not ordering hand cleaner anymore,Dont stop the fight here, fight it when your shopping, read the label, stay out of walmart, boycott, write congress and always vote,I'll let you all slide by the label( hint )troublemaker you've pinned on me but i  can sit here and say told you so or I can thank you all for coming around.I am proud to stand with everyone and I commend Ray and his(our) team ,there organizing and tireless leadership is amazing, although  they could use a singing lesson......just kidding  . proud to be local one ,now more then ever and hey ,to the brother who handed  me the hot chocolate.....thanks .If i hit the lotto this weekend everyones mortgage is being paid

The Scabs-They Sacrifice Themselves Like Lambs at The Corporate Slaughter

The scabs that have been led to New York are a pathetic lot. Our wages and fringes will dictate their salaries and fringes. They know this, yet they still allow themselves to be led to New York. Bah, Bah.

Some have said either recently or during past negotiations “I hope that you guys get a good raise, so that we can get one too.” Yet they allow themselves to be led to New York to defeat their own financial package. Bah, Bah. They may receive some instant gratification (bonuses) for their loyalty to their master, but in the end (today, tomorrow or five years from now) their value will be a reflection of our value. Still they allow themselves to be led to New York. Bah, Bah.

Some may have family in either our Local Union or International Union. Their family may work for the same employers that presently have us locked out. They betray their family as their master leads them to New York. “Take my son, but please don’t hurt me.” Bah, Bah.

If shift work ever comes to be many of these mutts will become night supers.  This will change their way of life and their quality of life....Still they follow their master to New York.  Bah, Bah.

Do not take pity on them as they make a choice. A choice to betray themselves and their families. The corporations will be coming for them next. While in their hometowns, or here in New York they may portray themselves as “The Boss”. The fact of the matter is they are servants. They may, while playing the role of super, talk like lions.....but they sacrifice themselves like lambs at the corporate slaughter.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I would like to express my opinion on the propaganda that we just received from Kone.

1.  I am not an Asphalt Master Contractor - I am an Elevator Mechanic

2.  I am not a Drywall Taper - I am an Elevator Mechanic

3.  I am not a General Contractor - I am an Elevator Mechanic

Now, with that established, let's explain some of an Elevator Mechanic:

1.  Driver - to get to and from jobs

2.  Parking attendant - feeding meters every hour

3.  PR person - because THEY  don't talk to the customers

4.  MOST IMPORTANT - MAINTAIN AND REPAIR ELEVATORS

5 YEARS OF SCHOOL AND A 5 HOUR NATIONAL TEST GIVING ME A CERTIFICATE MAKES ME A WHAT???  A VERY PROUD ELEVATOR MECHANIC !!!!

The first three above are supposed to take place under their 1 1/2 hours per call clock - 15 minutes used so far!  Now we have 1 hour and 15 minutes to fix the elevator.  First we check the elevator to make sure it is secure where it is - let's go up those 10 or more flights of stairs to accomplish this - NO PROBLEM!!!  I guess about another 15 minutes used up?  Now we have an hour left to do the actual repairs, usually WITH NO PRINTS!!!  Well, time has run out - locating the problem and possibly being able to start repairing has used up what time we had left.  WHAT NOW???  Call your supervisor - he's not there or he tells you to leave it down because it's a rat infested building.

Now tell the building super that - RRRIIIGGGHHHTTT!!!  You want to sneak out of the back door while the building super wants to know why you are leaving it down - his only elevator.  You tell him because I have no more time to spend - I'm on the clock and my hour and a half ran out.

Now - GPS.  If you want to know where your supervisors are, yes it is a good idea.  Don't ever blame us for what you pay all this money for to hire someone to watch over us like children.  Find out where they are during the day, not us.  Our ethics are, if there is a trap call we all go - this is through our union, our company and our PRIDE.  Pride, that might be something you corporate people no nothing about.  The Fire Dept. can get people out just fine, the only reason the building supers don't call them is because YOU go behind and make everything billable, even to the button you wouldn't fix two months ago!  With GPS you can "guide" us even more - RRRIIIGGGHHHTTT!!! "Guiding" us has never worked.  We as Elevator Mechanics know what works, what jobs are hot and need immediate answering.  You don't even want us talking on the two way - point out it is NO COST to you.  We as brothers and sisters, help each other out.  We love our trade and hope we always will.

Shift Work - I've seen contracts.  You are going to throw the 7% onto the customer any way and all of the competing companies are at a stand still - you figure it out!!!  We are all human and have lives.  We love to see our children.  You can't even throw as much money as you want our way to make that happen.  If you have noticed, more and more people are leaving the call back work - one reason for what I have just mentioned above - families.

Hoisting - RRRRIIIIIGGGGHHHTTT!!!  - Don't you think we have given enough of our work away?  Local 3 does our 110 work, carpenters and iron workers do our doors and pipe fitters do our hydros.  Don't give our work, which we have been trained to do and have been doing all these years, away!!!  Start giving it back!!!  We are one union and it is the best in the industry.  We weld, we fit, we put together cabs, we run 110, we hoist and stack rails.  We build elevators from top to bottom and when it is done, we feel fantastic and full of pride for our work!

WE ARE UNION STRONG AND UNION TOUGH - DON'T FORGET IT!!!

Fraternally,

Lets not forget Karl Baurlein. We outed John Soutar, we also went to Baurlein's house Easter Sunday morning. When they {SCABS} need a favor, when we go back, remember, we needed to go to there house on Easter Sunday morning to let them know who they are, let there neighbors know who they live next too. I just don't get SWINDLER, they were a runaway train  { supervisors with NO elevator experience, salesmen with NO sales experience, BRANCH MANAGER with no clue}  with a one eyed driver before they LOCKED us out, now they are a runaway train, with a blind guy driving.

Great turnout today at Otis' office on 34th Street! I want to thank all of the members of Local #10 for coming up to show their support. We are sending a great message to Otis, Kone and Schindler on what solidarity is all about.

Wednesday, March 30th, the Jersey & Westchester crews of Schindler, Otis and Kone will be rallying at the headquarters of Schindler Elevator North America in Morristown, New Jersey,  located at 20 Whippany Road, at 7 a.m.  There is limited parking, so try to car pool and be there early.  Let's bring this fight to Schindler's Corporate Headquarters.  Let them see the faces of their valued employees as they lock us out for yet another week.

In solidarity,

Bill Bulger Jr.

as a member who has refused to acknowledge for over 19 years that I work for any given company this is the greatest wake up call we have been given by these hypocrites. to the members who either forgot over the years  or never new,  from the day you are hired  you work for local 1!. that’s the card you carry in your wallet not otis or kone or swindler.they may be able to lock us out but they cannot take your knowledge it is priceless in this industry. we are their greatest asset and we know it. after reading every email this past week it is evident that they have no chance at winning this gross underestimation of our resolve to protect our livelihoods for now and the future. I just want to finish with this  1 point to sum up just how important we elevator brothers/sisters are to the public that they  have grossly and criminally overlooked.

1. in 1993 during the chaos of that horrible day downtown( the 1st attack) other than the fireman, police emts and 1st responders who were the most important contributors to serve the public ? that’s right the resident elevator mechanics who were sent to the roof in a helicopter. what other trade is this important!can you imagine god forbid another disaster where the public would need and expect to have the most knowledgeable and qualified elevator personnel on the job to assist! well as of march 17th  not only don't they have a local 1 member there but whoever is sent would need a map  a police escort a gps module and a !@#$ brain and if they do get there  they will be so stressed to find out that all the prints are gone due to company policy. greed steet and hypocrisy blvd. that’s where  you'll find enemy on the gps!

2. to all the working brothers/sisters your vacation time has now become a major asset in this war Winking smiley emoticon
time is on our side knowing the incompetence that is trying to fill our  boots .

great job brother duffy,  see you all tommorrow

What is the point of this GPS??? With the way SWINDLER runs there company, they could have all the GPS's in the world, and still not have a clue as to how to run a business properly. They want to know where there men are, how about there management??? Very few of them know there bldg managers name.....yet they want to know where we are...we are out covering there inept ASSES!!!! Lets stop this nonsense and get back to negotiating, and give us what we deserve!!!
