An excellent mechanic, a very good union man, always with a quick joke to make you laugh. A mans man. Sorry I could not be there to pass my condolences to John jr and family as I now live in California, but I would like them to know that he is not forgotten. card number 1347 Comments: Dear Brothers & sisters, The union meeting went well Thursday night. We got some good news, as of October 5th we will no longer have the monitors with us here at Local One. We also will have met ( actually slightly exceeded ) our financial goal with the Local One Defense fund when we pay our last 100 $ assessment along with the December 15th payment . The Bradlow Group (the monitors) will be giving a presentation at the regularly scheduled October 16th Union meeting. Mike Riegger brought the membership up to date our finances. We also will be receiving a questionnaire regarding topics of importance with our new contract which expires on March 17th 2009, less then 6 months away. We need to discuss with each other whats important regarding new contract. I would like to see some members getting together with their ideas and concerns so we can present them to the elected officials. We ALL need to be part of this process. We also were treated to a very "moving" few words regarding our own hero at Local One brother Charles Costello, we will never forget! I still appreciate that our present leadership is keeping us all informed. I saw some new faces at the last meeting which was encouraging but I would love to still see more members at meetings. We can't stress safety enough and continue to work safe and challenge other trades to also WORK SAFE alongside us. We must continue to challenge one another for a PAID quarterly dues card. I am also grateful that a few other IUEC locals have over 15 Local One members working in their area ( Las Vegas & Texas), we can't wait to have you back here in NY/NJ . As always I remain a very proud , educated, and involved member of Local one since 1982. The local schools are open please drive safe. Respectfully submitted Brother Brian Link
card number 1736 Comments: I would like to thank the Brothers and Sisters of Local 1 who sent their condolences on the passing of my Father. Respectfully, Billy Kolln (Chief)

card number 1179 Comments: Rain on me: We just had two events for Local One, IUEC. Mike Halpin and his hard working crew did a great job and everyone that showed up had a proud time marching up 5th avenue for the labor day parade Bob Stork & his hard working crew did a great job on the picnic. Both the parade and the picnic had a threat of rain. The rain did not stop the picnic or the parade. Everyone that came out had a great time. I hope to see more brothers & sisters next year. Work Safe.
card number 295 Comments: Marc Thomas Caraccioli was born Sept. 4 at 6:21am at 8 lbs3oz to the proud parents of BJ and Carly Caraccioli and the 11th grandchild of Anne Caraccioli . Maybe a fourth generation elevator constructor in the making
card number 1422 Comments: Thank you to all who came out to the parade today. Very special thanks to those who performed the labor involved in today's parade; Charlie Weber and his son Matthew, Greg Moschetti, Joe Houlihan, Tom Cullinane, Darby Dent, Richie Amberson, Erick Villagomez, Bill Donegan, Chris Randazzo and Kenny Krause your help is greatly appreciated. The Local 1 Pipes and Drums were fantastic. Thank you. Thanks also to Bill Madden, Jim Dickson and Atlantic-Heydt. Thanks also to our members from the Helmets to Hardhats program and those members who have served in the Armed Forces for leading us up Fifth Avenue.
card number 1422 Comments: It's Thursday evening. I have just returned from the last planning committee meeting for the Labor Day Parade. The parade is on!!! To paraphrase Central Labor Council Executive Director Ed Ott 'It's often cold, rainy, windy and sometimes snowy on St. Patrick's Day; yet the Irish march proudly up Fifth Avenue. It's often cold, windy and sometimes snowy on Thanksgiving Day; yet the families and children march down Broadway. This Saturday Labor will march, we are proud!' We will be marching in support of the Wounded Warrior Project. Helping our brave men and women who need more than our government is providing. These are working class Americans. We will be marching to promote the Employee Free Choice act, a piece of legislation that is vital to our future. We will be marching to promote Fair Trade, so that good American jobs do not continue to be shipped overseas. We will be marching to protect our health care and promote better health care. We will be marching to celebrate Labor's great achievements and the standards that Unions have set. We will also be marching in defense of the American Dreams that Unions provide.
card number 2178 Comments: TO ALL APPRENTICES PLEASE STOP DOING A RAIN DANCE.
card number Retired 1985 Comments: It was estimated that about three-million people participated or showed up at the West Indies Day Parade. Terrific. How many people, as well as all of our union brothers and sisters, from all of the trades, showed up at the Labor Day Parade? I wanted to be there, as I use to be, but was unable to due to my legs being numb from the knees to my toes. I knew that I could never make it up town, but my thoughts were there with you, at least those of you who did march. Until next time, work safe, stay healthy and God bless.
card number Retired Comments: Weitz and Luxenberg is looking for help from the membership again to help a deceased brother. Anyone who worked with Martin Brady please call Joel Gallagher at 212-558-5699. It could mean alot to Marty's family. Thank you, Rich Amberson

HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL BACK IN NEW YORK WHERE YOU BELONG!!! THANKS- AND GOOD LUCK!!! ******HEY BROTHER TOM OBRIEN GIVE ME A CALL, I GAVE UP ON YOUR PHONE*******
card number Retired 1985 Comments: That was an interesting post by Brother John Palmer regarding the roundup of 600 illegal immigrants working at the transformer plant in Mississippi thanks to a "tip" from a union Brother. He stated that fellow workers applauded as the illegals were taken into custody, but the whole story deserves some answers. (1) Why didn't at least one of these "fellow workers" drop a dime themselves? (2) If they were union, why did they allow non-union workers to do their work without reporting it to their union reps? (3) If they were union, and failed to report the matter to their reps, why weren't charges filed against them? (4) What, if anything did the authorities do to the manufacture for hiring illegals? And lastly, what the hell is the government, Republican, Democrat or otherwise going to do about the other 12 million illegals that have broken our laws and snuck into our country absorbing that number of jobs from American workers? Maybe there should be a reward for turning these illegals in thereby saving the expense of immigration officials doing the task themselves. I would appreciate seeing some comments on this matter by our members. Till next time, work safely, stay healthy and may God bless.
card number 2178 Comments: CHIEF, FROM ALL THE OBRIEN'S TO YOUR FAMILY WE ARE VERY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. IF THERE IS ANYTHING YOU NEED, LOOK US UP.!!!! THE OBRIEN'S
card number 1838 Comments: To Bill "The Chief" Kolln, my condolences to you and your family on your Dad's passing. It was a pleasure working with you at the Waldorf. Best of luck, Joe Houlahan.
card number 1056 Comments: Hi Everyone, I have been out of the loop of what is happening in New York. I have been working in Las Vegas for a spell until there is work for me in New York, which is my home. I was able to adapt to the work environment here in Vegas, and I am getting along with other fellow union member. In my case everyone gets along because everyone is in the same boat. The majority of the constructors in Vegas are from everywhere else. Some are from Michigan, Philly, Baltimore, Tampa, Miami, Alaska...etc. I am here with my co-constructors from New York which makes the transition a little easier to deal with. We all look out for each other. But we all are dying to get back home. I found out that Tommy Nagle just retired, so I want to send out a congratulations and a enjoyable life to him. I have had the pleasure to work with him at a few jobs, and I have to say, It was definitely an experience. So sorry that I was not able to make the retirement party. GOOD LUCK TO YOU TOMMY!!! I have also found out through this guess book that "The Chief's" father had just died. I would like to send my condolences to him and his family. I am hoping I to come home soon and work with my old gang again. Or even a new gang, whatever. WORK SAFE ALL! |
