To our dearest brothers, sisters and their family members,

We are so grateful to have this opportunity to thank you all for your support, prayers and kind hearts. Without the blood bank we would have lost our son and now because of your support we have replenished all the blood John Jr. had needed and other lives will be saved.
We would like to give a special thank you to Fred McCourt and Billy Bulger Jr. for all their hard work in organizing and making this a successful blood drive.Without them, and the support of all who helped them this day would have never been possible.

We will never forget what you have all done for our family. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Dear Brothers & Sisters:

Local One had the picnic yesterday Aug 2.
It was a great day for the union.
I want to once again thanks BA Bob and his great picnic crew for a great family day for Local One.
Sue Noble for keeping the records all summer long.
The Bag pipers sounded great as usually.

The retires were out in force.
They all looked great enjoying that good union pension.

The rain came and left, the sun came back out and the  fun continue.
The egg toss, the tug of war etc.

A great time was had by all.

Work Safe.

Brother Tom Moore

PS.  We have a had a few accidents on the job recently. First get medical attention for the member but the next call should be to the Union so we can help.

Please watch out for each other on the job.
Make sure all go home to their families at the end of the work day.

This is not how I wanted to post on this site but it has to be done. My nephew John Williams passed away this morning. He was a very good man, father, and friend to many. I have no info on funeral arrangements yet, but will post it when I find out.

Greetings,

I am looking for friends of my father who was a member of local 1. His name was Alfred Webster but went by the nickname "cook" or "cookie". He would be 72 years old if that helps. You can email me at alwebster@sbcglobal.net.

Hello,

Sorry if this is not the right forum but I am an old friend of Vincent Colon at Otis Elevator and would like to get in touch with him and his family again.  I've moved to the west coast and we lost contact.  If anyone knows him, could you pass along my email address, dondino@msn.com and tell him Don says hello!

Thank you very much!

The law firm of Weitz and Luxenberg is trying to contact anyone who worked with or knew Brothers James Kennedy, Ernest Walsh, Edward Kristan and Thomes Finnerty.  If so, please call Ted Farino, paralegal, at 212-558-5884.  This is about the abspestos class actoin lawsuit and could benefit those brothers.

                                                  Thank you,

I want to thank everyone who came out to donate blood on behalf of John Brady Jr. 69 units were collected!

Sorry many of you couldn't donate due to recent visits to Mexico or your answer to question #34.    Just kidding!

I spoke with John Sr. at the blood drive and John Jr. is progressing well.  He is off of the respirator and out of ICU. He has just been transferred to rehabilitation for physical therapy.  John still has a long road to recovery, but with our help and support, I know he will be just fine.

Thanks again for the support on the blood drive.

Bill Bulger Jr.

The blood drive for Brother John Brady Jr was a HUGE success yesterday. The blood center collected 69 units of blood.

As a member of Local One for 27 years, yesterday was one of my proudest moments being a part of this great organization. The true meaning of Brotherhood and Sisterhood was truly displayed yesterday in Perth Amboy. There were whole families that donated. There were other trades that donated. There were complete strangers that donated.

The best part of the day was seeing all of our tough guys flopping around on the beds and then getting up like nothing happened. We do have videotape of some of the floppers.

I would also like to thank the crew who gave up 5 hours of their own time on Tuesday night to clean and set up the hall for the blood bank. I would also like to give Steve Dunnigan a special shout out for just sitting around and doing NOTHING. Thanks Steve. I would also like to give a special note to Bill Bulger who helped to set up this GREAT day!!

We will be setting up another blood drive in the LIC hall in the fall. Some of the brothers came from Long Island to give blood and that is just too far to travel but appreciated.

God Bless The Brady family
God Bless the USA
God Bless LOCAL ONE!!!

Picnic time is here again.  Your picnic committee has been working to make this years event the best ever!  We have live music, great food (as usual), games, the raffle, the 50/50s, and of course the Bag Pipe Band.  Let's make this a great day in the annuls of Local 1 Picnics.

I hope to see as many of the members as possible this year.  This a great day for the families of our brothers and sisters and for the fellowships of OUR UNION!  We are still the best union in the building trades!  Our Picnic is proof of that!  So come on everyone and support the LOCAL 1 PICNIC!!!!!

New York State Department of Labor

Important Notice About
Emergency Unemployment Compensation

On June 30, President Bush signed into law a federally funded 13-week extension of unemployment insurance benefits, and Governor Paterson has taken action so that these Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits are available in New York State.  The Department of Labor is identifying potentially eligible claimants and will be mailing them a letter with instructions for applying for extended benefits.

In order to be eligible, claimants must:

  1. Be unemployed through no fault of their own.
  2. Have filed an initial claim for benefits on or after May 1, 2006.
  3. Have exhausted their regular unemployment insurance benefits on a current claim or have had a claim with a benefit year ending date of May 6, 2007, or later.
  4. Meet basic state eligibility requirements such as being ready, willing and able to work.
  5. Have no rights to regular or extended compensation under any other state of Federal law.

Claimants whose benefit year ending date has passed will be instructed to file a new claim by going to the Benefits Online Page or by calling the Telephone Claims Center at 1-888-209-8124 (1-877-358-5306 if you live outside of New York State).

Claimants whose benefit year ending date has not passed and who have exhausted their 26 weeks of regular benefits will be instructed to certify for extended benefits by going to the Benefits Online Page or by calling Tel-Service at 1-888-581-5812 (1-888-864-9920 if you live outside of New York State).

Individuals who are currently employed should not quit a job to file for extended benefits.  Quitting to collect these benefits will result in disqualification.

The first week for which extended benefit payments can be made under this law is the week ending on Sunday, July 13, 2008.  Payments cannot be made retroactive for periods of unemployment prior to the week ending July 13, 2008.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Under 18 U.S.C. ยง 1001, knowingly and willfully concealing a material fact by any trick, scheme, or device or knowingly making a false statement in connection with this claim is a Federal Offense, punishable by a fine of not more than $10,000 or imprisonment for not more than 5 years or both.
